Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Well a curve ball for me… tested positive last night. This means I can’t get a clear PCR for six months approximately. Looking forward to lots of arguments with people who need to accept my exemption…

Starting with the Tasmanian Government…

Honestly you’ll be just fine there is nothing to worry about, tens of thousands are in same boat and hundreds of thousands will be too by Christmas probably. We have workers moving around Australia who have previously had covid at different stages with no issues.

Speedy recovery (if there is even anything to recover from being double vaccinated!).

I am glad I am flying mid December - back when I booked last month it seemed risky but now with Nov 1 being the start date there will be many changes by the time I arrive at the airport and hopefully all the kinks will be worked out by then. Look forward to reading the many experiences had on here...

Definitely want to go overseas sometime next year... there might be some struggles at first as the airlines get used to the new processes. It will be a learning curve. Also hopeful that the situation gets better around the world.

No rush to travel on my end, as its for a vacation rather than family.

The test requirement is very stressful. When things open up, many of us will be asymptomatic positives because we are double vaxxed. But the test could derail our travel plans. I hope they scrap the testing for double vaxxed.
A false positive could, butwhat is the likelihood? I’m double vaxxed and had several tests since and none were positive.

Getting COVID or a false positive is just one of the many variables that could screw up travel plans right now.

Bummer! Second test, to be sure to be sure? IIRC the results aren’t always black and white.

cheers skip

I asked about that and was told not required (?)

I don't understand this. If you are double vaxxed and the Covid takes 14 days to run through your system, why wouldn't you test negative after it exits your system?

I believe it's the shedding element - I'll be spewing dead virus everywhere - including my poo...

So what good are these tests if they can't tell the difference between someone who is actively sick with Covid and someone who has fully recovered?

I'm no medico, but there is a serology test that can be used to distinguish between those with active Covid and those who have recovered.

From what I have been reading:
MEL -> DXB - > MAN on EK

should not need PCR at all, only a lateral flow within first 2 days in uk.

EK - no PCR requirement
DXB - no PCR requirement for transit under 10 hours if final destination does not require
UK - no PCR requirement for fully vax - just lateral flow within first 2

I havent missed anything here, right?

Don't think you've missed anything in terms of what is currently published. However, as we know so well, the requirements are less than clear for departures from AU starting from 1 Nov. There is nothing directly helpful on the Home Affairs site and the Dept of Health site still specifies a pre-flight PCR test for outbound but that page hasn't been updated since 7 July. As noted by other posters here in the last week, it's one of several things that awaits clarity from govt before international travel resumes.

I interpret the DXB transit and UK arrival rules the same way as you: there is really no ambiguity. Just not sure I would want to depend on this (if it turns out departing pax from here are no longer subject to a regulated AU test requirement) until others report they have flown all the way untested without falling foul of bureaucracy at transit ports in particular.

On the other hand, Etihad require a negative PCR <72 hours prior to travel for AUH transit.

Yes, no consistency right now though we can hope to see better harmonisation as time moves on. For people travelling in near future, it requires great care. You have to check carriers' own requirements as well as national requirements in dep, transit & arr ports: we're only now starting on a phase where there may be a pre-flight PCR requirement from 'none of the above' for some itineraries.

There are also personal circumstances and risks to consider. I'm travelling to UK in Dec and will probably book a PCR on arrival there (even though no longer required) to ensure I'm clear after the flight before meeting elderly relatives with other health issues.

I am hoping to do BNE-DXB-IST in Jan. Do you know if you can leave the airport during a 14 hour layover? Just a quick run to the Deira souk? Without a PCR test I mean. Turkey does not require PCR from double vaxxed people.

Hi Mate,

Just had another look, and have edited my post accordingly, looks like they want a negative pcr if your transit is over 10 hours.

"Transit passengers from these countries with a Dubai Connect booking and/or transit time of more than 10 hours must present a negative COVID‑19 PCR test certificate with a QR code for a test conducted within 48 hours of the time the sample was taken at an approved health facility. Passengers must also present a Rapid PCR test report with a QR code for a test conducted at the departure airport within six hours of departure."

Double trouble - ouch. Think I'll be sticking with minimum connections!

Hoping things harmonise and become easier as the weeks roll on. Plenty of time for me until SQ hopefully fly me to IST. But beyond that, you have to also look at the next country (let's say B) you're going to and how they treat people coming from country A, and then country C for country B and how long ago they ban anyone from country A. Mine field!

Indeed, both my out/in transits are under 3 hours. get in. get out. lol.
