Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Who’s going to ask. And who’s going to answer. No one :)
They will do the right thing and get tested again, likely with RAT as they are bringing some back from the UK. Well, I told them to bring them back! But you know what kids are like...🤷‍♀️

Ah yes I didnt notice it (probably because I have an optical filter for any of that Junk), And by definition, any post on TT would immediately discount the veracity of her story.......

That TT video did not show anything of note.

So with the new RAT rules for NSW international arrivals - is there anything stopping you from testing yourself in the terminal and just completely skipping the isolation step? Including catching a train home?

Allowed to go home first then RAT.
If you decide to RAT in the aircraft toilets you will still need to RAT after arriving home

But in reality who is going to check.

I wonder if arrivees get given a free RAT on arrival?
Where does it say you have to do the test at home? What I’m reading says you have to do it as soon as practicable after arriving in NSW. It does say you have to isolate at home until receiving a negative result.

I can’t see where the plan to self test at the airport would be against the rules (not suggesting on the aircraft). As you say it’s totally unenforceable anyway.

It does not but it does say - go straight home or to accomodation and self isolate until a negative test. And it mentions that a RAT test is a self test that can be done at home.

Basically a moot point - do it anywhere.
Though the idea is to account for those who will be positives because they will have to go straight home. So simplify the message for everyone

If at all. I still don’t understand why one arriving on a flight from Nadi needs to “test and isolate”, yet a visit to Broadway Coles (which is much higher “risk”) has no such need.

Covid is worldwide. Is there anywhere in the World without Covid or significant Covid
(Apart from under the sea)

How does pre travel testing make any difference.

Because it suits nationalistic agendas. “Border Controls” subconsciously lead people to believe the blame is external, rather than an issue for state health systems.

I can understand if you are bringing in tourists as perhaps you can't forecast the number that might come in and/or leave Australia so could leave you short in healthcare settings.

However considering the borders are still largely closed to tourists I see no point in testing for returning Australians/residents/visa holders.

In MEL I got given a pack of 5 RAT tests last night after collecting my bag when I went through customs. Though whether they keep doing that remains to be seen.

I was also earlier handed an information sheet dated NYE explaining that rapid tests at home are acceptable. An older version of the information sheet from 20th December was in the RAT box from back when PCR was still required.

It does provide some kind of barrier for those on the plane that at least within the last 72 hours everyone has tested negative. Given the size of international planes that is somewhat reassuing. Especially for kids who can't be immunised. It isn't perfect of course but it is something.

Family arrives next Friday night. Hopefully the same procedure applies.

What was the arrival procedure like and any mention of future tests or you are all good to go now?
Has Victoria got rid of the day 5-7 test?

The rules differ from state to state, I think. In VIC the day 5-7 test is also RAT at home. If you test negative you only have to quarantine at home until you’ve got the result from the day 1 test. There are 5 in the pack which should be more than enough for two tests. I already have plans to take a third before I attend a large gathering later in January.

Have to avoid certain high risk settings for the first 8 days (with limited obvious exceptions) such as schools, hospitals etc.
