Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

When airline is going under slowly, the end game we will all get tax slugged on ticket purchased as we did with Ansett. Your own very personal BP to PB on another airline while contributing to the the downed airlines superannuation payouts.

How do they do this, two/three from PB, then one from GB; rinse, repeat?
No, the eligible PAX in the PB queue get their BP scanned before anyone else in the normal queue.

When the PB queue is empty, those in the the normal get their turn until more PB PAX come down their lane; rinse, repeat ...

...VA generally do it very well with only one FA.
Generally, VA use GAs to board, not FAs. Hence I think, why VA is able to consistently apply PB, and QF is not. :!:

QF FAs, IME - do NOT turn back people in the incorrect queue, when they get to the scanner.
VA GAs, IME - TURN BACK people in the incorrect queue, if they reach the scanner.

Result = VA "guests" often self-correct themselves during boarding, when they see someone turned back in front of them, Qantas "customers" go to the shortest queue when they see no one gets turned back.

Interesting location for the PB sign...

Par for the course . Obviously no janitor's cupboard to shove it into to really get the nuisance object out of the way.

It was the inconsistency with the placing of signage and zip ropes on my two flights that had me shaking my head yesterday. Sure, different airports, times, staff but c'mon QF

Virgin have it perfectly positioned every time I board one of their flights. I get to access PB with them, but not with QF - the joys of higher status.

I'm on VA to ADL next week, my expectations for PB are set. They aren't with QF - disappointing really

I have given up on priority boarding. It is like priority luggage - nice when it happens but no expectations. From a couple of chats to staff handling the priority boarding there is little commitment to it. They don't want to have to be hassled by people if they send them to the other queue and don't want delays..... We just take our time coming down from the lounge and usually there is not much of a queue anyway.

That is a pathetic response from staff IMHO.

13Feb SYD-ADL QF743 Total fail. Long line, same length for PB as the GB line. Person in front of me: Gold; couple in front of her: Silver. Mrs Silver reads the PB board and turns to Mr Silver: "Oh, we're Ruby", Mr Silver "Yeah, don't worry."

A truer word never spoken.

BD

Which is fine *if* the FAs then police the "smaller items under the seat in front" policy on crammed flights .... which they don't. I travel with one full size carry-on - it just fits the 737 bins, 767s ... forget it. If I waited in the Lounge, there is NO way I'd get it anywhere near me on a crammed flight.

I'd rather 10mins less in the Lounge than an extra 10mins retrieving my bag from the back of the plane on arrival.

Regards,

BD

Yes I can see why PB is more essential for business travellers who are trying to save time by not checking in luggage. We are leisure travellers and I have given up on hand luggage - even going overseas I only take a handbag.

Worked perfectly on QF610 MEL-BNE last Saturday. For the return on QF637 there were some stragglers in both lanes when we got to the gate, and the signage was 90 degrees askew (i.e. arrows pointing towards and away from the gate, rather than to left and right lanes) so while there was no real impact on us, I suspect a fail.

Last time I did MEL-PER the nearest comparison I could come up with was the annual migration of the 2 million wildebeest across the Serengeti - it was an abysmal failure.

90 degrees is only half a fail. Often they are 180 degrees out .

That photo on post # 3173 just illustrates the problem perfectly, until QF gets those bollards/signs and separation rope/tape permanently installed (and I mean drill holes in the floor and cement them in place!), then there is no point talking about PB signage, announcements, staffing, training and enforcement, it will continue to be a joke/temporary gimmick and its a clear demonstration that QF are unable to or are unwilling to implement their own PB policy/procedure.

Maybe tomorrow's announcement will be the announcement of priority boarding. :p
