Not really. Domestic priority boarding on qantas aircraft is within the control of qantas and they could provide it. In fact they intended to provide it via PA announcements, which have stopped or never happened. Qantas does not control the CCR and saying WP has access probably contravenes the agreement with BA/OW. They seem to be different situations.

I was just using one of a million example Medhead.

Somewhere in this thread I read that it was OK to go to front and push in with mixed reports of it worked, asked to go to back of line or were ignored.

Maybe a couple of runs should be orgainsed with the J/WP's (still trying to work out if SG have rights, if so they are included) being on same flight, creating their own line to one side holding cards in hand and see what staff do.

I'm sure there are plenty of examples out there.

Anyway, delivered or not they have still published the benefit. They have to deal with the benefit as if it is a real benefit. I think the fact they are looking at it is a good sign.

It's funny but it was only re removal of anytime access that made me look at priority boarding in any detail. I wonder if the resources they will commit to looking at this will be less than the cost of anytime access

I noticed that JQi seems to have quite a good 'priority' boarding lane - too rushed to snap a pic though. Interestingly, JQ allows pax to pay for the privilege. Is this where QFd is headed too?

I would argue we have already paid for it in our spending to get 1200 SCs.

I think you are on to something there.

Since Qantas has acknowledged our enthusiasm for priority boarding and are (I presume) spending time and money implementing it - I can only imagine they are also going to offer it to non-status passengers for a fee.

I mean, every change they make needs to generate revenue/profit, right?

I'm sure some buzz-word laden exec is going to synergize the cough out of this whole thing and somehow walk away with a nice bonus because of it.

Boy, the conspiracy theories are really heating up in this thread :)

Qantas have always had priority boarding for premium pax on international flights, and they have never offered it to non-premium pax at a fee. I don't really understand why you think they would start now.

Possibly because they've gone that way in other respects, like checked baggage.

Some of the FIFO routes l did were charter only, direct to the mine site, National Jet Systems for QF. You got QF points and SC's, even though the general public couldn't purchase tickets for these flights.

I had no idea you earnt points and SC's on charters. interesting.

Correct but the trouble is you're dealing decision makers with dollar signs in their eyes on nice little bonuses who benefit directly from something like this.

It would be very hard to measure potentially how much business they stand to lose when implimenting an 'enhancement' ie introducing charging for exit rows, 'excess' baggage, other seat allocation charges, removal of ATA & PB(?) etc so all these greedy people can see is the dollars that will roll in rather than business that will roll out/go elsewhere.

I think you are on to something there.

Their mantra would have to be 'profit ain't a dirty word' - just like ego I'm sure!

Re: Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story? {Saw the trial in SYD)

Hi All -

I happened to be at SYD T3 on Monday morning (22/08) around 7.30am. As I walked from Gate 7 to Gate 2 for international transfer (i was heading to JNB) there was the normal announcements about boarding and calling flights etc.... then as I reached Gate 4 I heard an announcement similar to "We trialing a new boarding procedure today please form 2 queues, one for business and WP and one for everyone else."

This made me stop and actually pay attention. There was about 4 QF corporate folks in addition to the gate staff. There were 2 signs up showing where to queue for J, WP and then the other area for Y. The WP queue was in the normal queue location for gate 4 where the newspapers are and the Y queue was moved to queue thru the seats in the lounge at Gate 4. Y passengers joined the boarding queue right where the baggage slide is for over-sized cabin baggage.

Process seemed to work well, but I didn't stay for too long to watch... pancakes in the T1 J lounge were calling.

This was the 8am flight SYD-MEL. And this was only set-up at Gate 4.

So it seems there is some movement and QF are doing some trials. Keep an eye out next time you pass thru SYD and check out if they have the signs up.

Congee

Thanks for the update - I have flights next week to MEL so it will be interesting to see if the trial is continued and if I am part of it. I wonder if one of the QF will see my BP and join the dots "Good Morning mr Simon Grxx_xx_ - waitaminute aren't you that whinger about priority boarding???"

Re: Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story? {Saw the trial in SYD)

Well it's great to see that Qantas is doing something about this.

Definitely. Great to see.

Now I don't want to sound like a wet blanket or (more of) a whinger (!) but the question still remains: how did QF envisage priority boarding operating in reality when the benefit was first listed for Platinum, or was it simply a case of lip service all along?
