Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

It wasnt that hard...i see they are using cheapy pull-banners as well.

i reckon the finish product will be similar to the ones they use in Int'l

Glad QF is actually doing something about this...

With the huge number of gates used (across the domestic network), I think they'd be up for a fair cost if they used pull-up banners. Again, the AA option, with smaller, simpler signs would probably be significantly cheaper, easier to move and to erect.

They've got about $200+ million in kitty....so some signs arent that much

This week in Canberra, no priority boarding, call or line or anything. I enquired at the service desk as to why to be told "We don't do it in Canberra. We've never done it in Canberra". I asked to speak to the duty manager. The agent called him but said he was busy and would try to make it before my flight left. I told her I'd wait off to the side.

Again, I was the last to board my flight. Another agent, who knew I was waiting for the duty manager, said I needed to board "now" as I was the last one. I politely reminded her that the website says boarding doesn't close until until five minutes before departure and that that was still several minutes away. Her response, and I quote verbatim, was:

"What's on the website and what happens at the airport are two different things."

You could have knocked me over with my Platinum FF card. I couldn't believe it.

"What's on the website and what happens at the airport are two different things."

Perhaps that could be QF's new corporate slogan, to go along with the new slogan for JQ "Jetstar, a Qantas company ... when it suits us".

"What's on the website and what happens at the airport are two different things."
To be fair to the duty manager, she's quite right.

The service Qantas delivers is not consistent with what they promise on their web site - that's the whole reason why this thread exists, no?

However, I think the response you got was totally unacceptable and I would have begun writing my complaint letter as soon as it was safe to switch electronic devices back on.

Re: Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story? {Saw the trial in SYD)

Hi All -

I happened to be at SYD T3 on Monday morning (22/08) around 7.30am. As I walked from Gate 7 to Gate 2 for international transfer (i was heading to JNB) there was the normal announcements about boarding and calling flights etc.... then as I reached Gate 4 I heard an announcement similar to "We trialing a new boarding procedure today please form 2 queues, one for business and WP and one for everyone else."

This made me stop and actually pay attention. There was about 4 QF corporate folks in addition to the gate staff. There were 2 signs up showing where to queue for J, WP and then the other area for Y. The WP queue was in the normal queue location for gate 4 where the newspapers are and the Y queue was moved to queue thru the seats in the lounge at Gate 4. Y passengers joined the boarding queue right where the baggage slide is for over-sized cabin baggage.

Process seemed to work well, but I didn't stay for too long to watch... pancakes in the T1 J lounge were calling.

This was the 8am flight SYD-MEL. And this was only set-up at Gate 4.

So it seems there is some movement and QF are doing some trials. Keep an eye out next time you pass thru SYD and check out if they have the signs up.

Congee

So if QF go ahead with real Priority Boarding after the trial ie a dedicated boarding lane where eligible pax can board anytime does that mean it won't be available to Gold Frequent Flyer members?

It seems inconsistent that their OneWorld counterparts ie OW Sapphire members of CX or AA are eligible for priority boarding yet QF FF Golds are not.

If FF Golds can use Premium Checkin, Premium Security, access Qantas Club why not Priority Boarding???

Have been following this thread off and on for a while now, so apologies in advance if my question has come up before.

How difficult is it to implement the "Priority Boarding" signage from QFi to QFd? Surely it's not so hard to organise this?? We're 75 pages into this thread, and suggestions and irritations abound, yet QF still can't get it/don't get it.

My goodness - no wonder they're in such a mess! If they can't get domestic PB organised, what hope is there for Qantasia????

  1. Have a look at you direct competitors - hmmmm, VA seem to be showing their FF get thgis kind of service already; alarm bells anyone?
  2. Start using your QFi signange in the same way for QFd, and use that announcement spiel to advise all passengers what the deal is.
  3. Issue the "Entitlements" to every cabin crew member and here's a novelty: follow-up on this - are they actually doing priority boarding??
Seems simple to me: If you're going to advertise it, make sure it's operational! (Otherwise everything VA's new advertising is hoping to achieve, could actually happen.;))

Qantas is currently experimenting with priority boarding lanes & signage at Sydney airport. There are some photos of this a few pages back.

Hopefully they'll have some good news for us shortly.

Experimenting? As the Nike slogan goes: "Just do it!" (Personally I think they should have used the word "procrastinating". ;)) LLC carriers get it right throughout Asia, day in, day out *and* they're as rigid as! Wrong seat number - no way - stand aside and wait your turn!! (In the nicest possible way of course.)

Wake up QFd - VA is leaving you waaaaay behind. . . . . . . .

Particularly after the VA Announcement today. The flow of disaffected AFF QFF's is not a trickle, it's a flood...

Wow! I truly had *no* idea that this was happening - been abroad for past 3 years, so a little behind, although I did have a quick peek at VA's new ad that was posted earlier today; slick, very slick!

VA even managed to have new signs already

Dear Red Roo,

Don't worry about implementing priority boarding. By the time you get around to doing it, you won't have any platinums to offer it to!

Regards,
russ

Quite right. I am QF WP and have been frequently flying HBA-CNS. This year they have put up the fare about $400. I pay for it myself as I am self employed. So I decided to try Virgin J. Very happy. Not quite as many frills but $2200 cheaper and they have priority boarding lanes. I will be doing all my domestic trips with them now. I have already applied for Virgin the status match and it will take a lot to get me back.
