Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

Experimenting? As the Nike slogan goes: "Just do it!" (Personally I think they should have used the word "procrastinating". ;)) LLC carriers get it right throughout Asia, day in, day out *and* they're as rigid as! Wrong seat number - no way - stand aside and wait your turn!! (In the nicest possible way of course.)

Wake up QFd - VA is leaving you waaaaay behind. . . . . . . .
Red Roo has offered an explanation as to why they cannot 'Just do it'

ISTR Red Roo simply assured us of that without going into the details - which is fair enough, as I imagine the gradual trial and implementation of an existing advertised service that competitors seem to have no problem with is highly commercial in confidence. :p

There was more to it than that. ;)

LOL Nearly spurted my Dalwhinnie across the room. :D

Thank you for having a sense of humour straitman - the last time I tried to make light of a QFF enhancement my emoticons seemed to have no effect and I was shot down very quickly. ;)

Obviously trialling something along the lines of:

"Attention ladies an gentleman. Flight QFxyz will be boarding shortly. At this time we would like to invite our Business, WP/OW Emerald/SG and families with small children and those requiring assistance to commence boarding. We shall announce our regular boarding call very shortly. Thank you for your co-operation." And then have somebody read and actually wave away anyone who don't fit the first boarding call.

Guess they're testing their "official boarding call voice" and "ability to look for WP/OW Emerald, assisted passengers and small children" amongst the queue. ;);)

Thanks Red Roo for keeping us appraised. . . . . . . . . but I think QFd missed the boat a long time ago when this "enhancement" was originally implemented.

Actually they called families with small children and those requiring assistance first and then the WP's etc after that.

SG aren't entitled to domestic priority boarding ... it's one of the few differentiators left between SG and WP (well, it would be, if it worked).

Depends on where you are getting the information from (I posted screen shots earlier in this thread).

Status;
  • QF's admission- Domestically only WP's are entitled to priority boarding
  • Oneworld - Emeralds and Sapphire are entitled as QF is part of OW.

As I posted up-thread, Qantas Domestic "Priority Boarding" has been around for a long time - try 20+ years. (It was called "preferred board" IIRC)

Back in the early 90's QP membership was an elite thing - flying business domestically did not get you access, you had to be flying "First Class" domestically.

So most Business travellers would await their flight at the gate and actually would make use of priority boarding when announced for a flight.

As the 90's drifted on, more and more travellers garnered QP membership and more and more began to await the boarding call from the lounge. After a while with this happening, the priority boarding call at the gate would often go unanswered, so agents began to use it less and less, since it was becoming a waste of time.

These days things have changed; more and more eligible people wish to board ASAP.

Ok so QF are trialling options for priority boarding in SYD only.... hmm wow im so very much looking forward to experiencing this service of which is unprecedented and never been done before.

.... well at least thats what your inclined to think given the need for trial...

im pretty sure just about all of the worlds leading airlines ALREADY supply this service - is QF just too embarrassed to implement an 'already done' service that they need to create a whole new one... it goes beyond re-creating the wheel.

For Frequent Flyers sake just go print some pretty signs on some A3 card - laminate it, and put it on those useless barrier posts that are lying around the airport (make them some why useful)

There we go! QF ive just saved you thousands in R&D of a service that has existed for decades - even the low cost carriers do it ;)

I flew Melbourne-Perth yesterday. No priority boarding. I enquired at the service desk as to why to be told "it's not set up at this gate". That was an easy answer so I persisted, asking "can you tell me which gates it is set-up in Melbourne?" Then came the truth: "we don't have it here in Melbourne. I know they are running trials but we don't have it here".

I should also mention that I boarded at a gate with not only two readers and two FAs doing the boarding, but two aerobridges and two of those fancy digital signs above the gates. Both of the signs (above each of the two doors) read "Business/Economy".

Seriously, what hope have we got if QF can't implement it at a gate with two readers and two aerobridges. There's absolutely no excuse. It was literally handed to them on a Platinum platter and they still couldn't do it. Amazing.

I've just watched it on the Facebook page.

Why does he go into the the Priority Check-in line (that goes nowhere) then into The Lounge?:confused:

A good ad, but not accurate. I hate that...

I'd like to pick you up on two points.

Firstly.....Pedant! :p

Secondly.... Ads? Accurate? :p

Perhaps VA will be introducing priority check in lanes to their lounges? :)

Ooh.

This is a good sign, no?

The service desk was able to:
  1. Acknowledge the non-existence of priority boarding (instead of claiming that the early boarding call = priority boarding).
  2. Demonstrate awareness of trails running in Sydney.
So, it seems like there is actually some timely & accurate communication going on between Qantas management and staff.

That's what QF need for their QP's!

Bye Bye Lounge Dragon; hello Door cough!:p:shock:

P.S. Lindsay, I thought the same. (It appear to be the same agent scanning the BP each time.)

Call me a Virgo and yes, therefore a pedant ;)

Advertisements for me are about the enjoyment of watching (and pulling apart :D), very little about actually believing the product that they are pedestalling is actually what they say, as it's generally hyped. With a background of being a researcher for my clients, I want to see some of the detail it and test the claims. Then I might believe the product. But once I'm hooked, I have generally solid loyalty until something better DOES come to market.

QF, you are dragging the chain and the more nimble company that can make swifter decisions is biting at your heels and taking market share from under your nose. You'll only know it's gone when you turn back to have a look
