Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

Good news, apparently I'm using the voucher for my mother in law to visit her ill sister. I think that is a great outcome, as the apology gets used for something good.

I was going to comment that any voucher that takes the MIL further away from me is a great voucher - but seeing the reason for the trip I hope all is ok.

My pet name is the evil step mother, so I might tend to agree. ;) As for all being OK, thanks for the sentiment. Unfortunately, it's a second go with cancer and things don't sound so good.

Officially, priority security only applies "during peak periods". Obviously that's whatever they feel like on the day, and in my experience varies significantly from day to day, and airport to airport!

From the "at the airport" section on Qantas.com:

Domestic: Available weekdays during peak periods in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney (T3) domestic airports

That's strange. I've been through all the major domestic airports in the last 3 weekends

... In J and I've had priority boarding at all ports except ADL!

(sorry about that. Not used to the iPad app yet!)

My post around only during peak periods was referring to Priority Security, not Priority Boarding.

You guys have it easy - I have two :o (a M-i-L and a step M-i-L). I have to keep both of them on side - thankfully that isn't too difficult and I can put up with both of them - they're good babysitters sometimes ;).

First QF flights of the year for me today on QF410 MEL-SYD and QF451 SYD-MEL, and two good PB experiences. In both cases I was fairly late to the gate (well after boarding had commenced) and in both cases there was a long regular boarding line and no one in the PB line.

Not sure if it was due to QF enforcing the rules properly or simply due to pax voluntarily obeying the signage, but all-in-all, good to see. Hope it's a sign that QF are getting on top of the issues.

QF417 SYD-MEL today, gate 1. The initial call was for people with children or needing assistance and those sitting in rows 15-29. Boarding was managed by two QF staff, and those in J quickly used the priority lane...me included. there was a call for J and status pax but I missed the exact call because I was already boarding.

Other than the call I was pretty happy.

Sorry if I have missed this in previous posts but didn't have time to back through the whole thread, but no PB in CBR? Do they assume everyone has PB? Seems we have other things such as a J lounge unlike ADL & PER

Premium boarding worked ok at BNE gate 23 on Sunday all of the passengers in the premium lane appeared meet the criteria. But one funny thing happened, the passenger in front of me turned around and out of the blue said to be "This is the premium lane you need to line up in the other line!". I guess she thought I looked like I didn't belong in the premium lane. With a smile I said 'That's ok, I'm Platinum One' and I flashed by BP, she stood there with a confused look, didn't say anything further and just turned around again. Although I admire her gumption, her execution leaves a bit of room for improvement.

Also on the subject of premium security lanes. At MEL on Friday at 5pm there were two(!) Qantas staff members guarding the premium lane. Maybe some of the reports from this thread have made it back to Qantas.

Oh, what I'd give to be in that situation, lol. The possibilities are endless.........;)

Lets hope so. Its crowd control 101, really, a complete no brainer.

When changing behaviour one has to police and enforce the wanted behaviour. If you look weak, particularly in the early stages then you fail.

Yes, that would have been a MasterCard moment. Wonder if she ever did work out what a Platinum One member is ;)

Oh to have been a fly on the wall! Wonder why she singled you out as not being a premium type pax? I wouldn't mind betting she was a school teacher as some find it difficult to leave the authoritarian part of their job at the school gate when they leave work & enjoy carry the attitude around 24/7. I've seen it happen on a few occasions in various places.

It's a wonder there wasn't an onboard PA for "Richie9x please report to the principal's office". :p

Depending on how talkative I felt I would have taken one of 3 options:
  • Yeah I know
  • Don't you worry about me just you worry about yourself
  • How do you figure I need to be in the other line?
If I was really untalkative I might have just used 2 words one starting with G and the other with F. Under no circumstances would I have stated why I was in the correct line - that makes it too easy.
