I was given the new offer 42,500 instead of the 82,500. Called. Spoke to a CSR who gave his name, said he would look into it and get back to me the next working day. He did and the correct points were posted to my account within 24 hrs. So I'd try calling again; you might have just scored a CSR who didn't know the ropes...perhaps he'd/she'd transferred in from Citibank or ANZ.

I contacted Amex via the online system this afternoon so thanks for that advice - clearly a better option than speaking to them on the phone. Perhaps I just got someone who was out of their depth or having a bad day. 5-7 days for a response is somewhat better than 4-6 weeks.

On checking your account I do see that 47,500 bonus points have been issued towards your account.

Since you signed up to receive 80,000 bonus points, I have immediately contacted our dedicated Team to look into this matter. Please allow 5 - 7 business days for them to get back to me with an update in this regard. I'll keep you updated with in this time frame.

All points in QFF acc - card cancelled this morn - $249 ann fee refund by cheque in 7 to 10 working days - gotta love AMEX huh?

Everybody has plausible grounds for cancelling - and if not create one. $249 for 80+K pts too expensive? I would hardly think you would get away with that one.

Someone possibly used your referral link for a qff ultimate card (edit: that has happened for me).

Absolutely that is one of like a gazillion others - but with QF / VA so simple to state that you have had a serious disagreement with the airline and have made a decision to shift future flights away from them thus earning pts in that program useless going forward - just get your little mind active.

So I was holding the AMEX Velocity card when I applied for the Qantas Gold AMEX card. On the application form I did tick "hold a current amex card". I spent the $3k and received the 80k points which was great. I then referred a friend, he got approved and I received the 15k "refer a friend" bonus. He also holds an AMEX velocity card and he ticked "hold a current amex card" on the application form. He has spent well over $3k. He hasn't received any bonus point at all. The only difference I can see between what I did and what he did is that I opened a separate online account to my existing amex velocity log in. He didn't. Could that be the reason? Has anyone else done what he did and still received the 80k points? My last resort is to advise him to call AMEX even though I know technically he is not entitled to the bonus points and they will probably tell him that too.
