Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

Virgin even has a status match offer at the moment to try to take bookings away from QF from people in your situation, so QF definitely will lose some bookings because of this extension.
Platinum for Platinum? Any hurdles?

You can‘t be or have been VA Silver or above since 2020...
That should be simple considering flying internationally and domestically for that matter was largely illegal since then! 🤣

Update on my moanings - QF loyalty replied to my email today, they want to ensure my loyalty is recognised and manually credited the 15k (my year ends Feb, so this is in line with the 15k/30k debate). No explanation as to why I never received it, but that's really not relevant now, I'm just happy they've included me.

So positive outcome in the end even if it did require some (minimal) effort on my part. Hope that reassures others who have heard nothing so far.

Edit no idea whether they count towards PC+, couldn't remember my total before and had already hit the 20k from flying limit anyway 🤷‍♂️
That's great news to hear.

I'm back from my overseas trip and rang QFF yesterday. The agent knew immediately what I was talking about, said she knew of others who also did not get the email, and there was a team working thru a list. She assured me she would flag add my membership and made sure I knew about the $50 voucher.

Overall it felt like they had a handle on the situation.

I notice when I look at the App it says my membership will be extended. When I look at my husbands app and he has already accepted the offer, there is no mention of status extension.

So maybe they are following up with people who haven't accepted the offer already?

Anyway now I wait, and do feel confident all will be right in the world.

Cheers

Status extensions?
Lots of them!

Plus plenty of reports here of peeps still attaining/retaining QF and VA status through domestic flying during 2020/21 - Obviously not NSW based…we couldn’t leave the state for months…

NSW was one of the earlier states to open up..

VA were running DSC on revenue booking for ages, as well as SC on award bookings. Anyone who's set foot on VA planes a few times in the past 12 months will be very close to Silver if not already there..

Happily I've been burning my QFF points for the past 6 months so only took one VA flight as part of my transition to them - therefore still Velocity Red. So the Switcheroo is perfectly timed for me. OW emerald for another 18 months, and VA Plat within a month.

The other half was offered two business lounge passes, domestic. They're gold and year end is July to December

I had a quick look at the email from Virgin and they offered me a gold match. Stopped reading as I'm platinum with virgin already, so... fail really.

Sadly not, my status lapsed just before Covid, was rematched from QF WP to VAG, and has stayed extended since then. Shame as I wouldn’t mind VAP, although not sure I’d actually get any benefit from it anyway (I’ve also got SQ Gold, so it’s only really SkyTeam I’m not covered for).

They count as Flying miles (if any quota left).
Explains it. I was well past retaining PC+ anyway, so no loss either way, just happy to take the extra points!

I don't know about that...
I applied and apart from a flight last month, I do not recall the last time i flew on Virgin. Yet somehow I am still silver and was promptly rejected.

Just an update – since I can't use my $50 credit, if anyone would like to try it on their next booking then shout out.

Message me and I'll reply to you with the code. Free for you because you have a nice smile. :)

The extra reward seats must have been a great publicity stunt.

I'm trying to bring wife and daughter from BKK or SIN back to Brisbane and 16 November is the first date I can find an award seat for 25,200 points in economy. Very disappointing.

By the way SQ worse. Must be lots of tourists visiting Australia from Europe?

I just tried to link one of my domestic business lounge invitations to a flight I'm taking next week. I can see the two invitations but can't seem to be able to link them - clicking "link invitation" beside the flight just redirects me to the generic Qantas Club page.

No lounge passes showing for OH (Silver), although she did receive the sorry email.

Not bothered about this, the WP points I got in the end, which was the only thing I wanted from this (I’ve requalified anyway so even the extension is moot), and OH usually travels with me, so we don’t need them, but still.

Not the best rollout of an offer I’ve ever seen by far, but meh.

As someone who is returning to OW and platinum this year the hard way - thoughts on my eligibility for the points bonus for loyalty.
I am expecting a requirement to call up and request a manual crediting.
