Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

Are there any differences between the Qantas Club and domestic business lounge at SYD? I've mostly been using the latter since I have access, but it seems like the food is always butter chicken and toasties regardless, and the bar is pretty much the same as well, right? The views are similar and both are frequently crowded (as per the headline of this thread), so it's much of a muchness.
Not much difference at the moment, particurlarly if the J lounge is crowded. I'm a beer guy, and I recently found out that the (SYD) Qantas Club has a rotating local craft beer option... and so this would appeal more than anything I could get in the J Lounge. In terms of food, I haven't found anything in the J lounge that I would consider worth eating in visits over the last 6 months or so, so not missing out there either.

I guess preference will decide, but nice to have the option of both, for if one is decidedly worse than the other on the day!

Cheers,
Matt.

Actually went into Syd QP for the first time today as in the past had always had J access on U award tix. I preferred it's openness to the J lounge layout but it was clearly in need of a reno, showers were smaller and old (though clean).
Food wise QPs always seems to have the sandwiches and a hit or miss salad, whereas at the J I know there's almost always a main.

The Syd Q pub usually has soup, toasties and at breaky pancake machine or sometimes if lucky at lunch some potato wedges. Never a hot main of any description.

The Syd J lounge usually has hot breakfast (eggs, sausages, mushrooms) plus pastries and hot lunch/dinner (butter chicken and rice).

Syd J also has self serve sparkling water, whereas in Q Pub you need to go to the bar and ask, as only soda water on self serve tap.

Otherwise not much difference, hopefully after the renos J Lounge will have something akin to PERs pizzas or MELs spice bar.

Better booze, better food, better class of people = no brainer.

My Platinum status was just extended sometime in the past 12 hours. (Year starts March 1st.)

I was a bit nervous about this one.
Even though I had racked up well over 1,200 status credits on partner flights over the past year, I hadn't been able to do the required 4 Eligible Flight Segments. (I didn't get back home to Australia, because I've had to make up for not visiting overseas offices during COVID.)

I wasn't sure how they'd treat this. It was clear that the extension would apply if you hadn't obtained the required status credits. I had done that, though, so I wasn't sure if the automated system to extend status would even touch my account. Also, the T&C weren't clear about an extension if you didn't make the 4 required flights. I was just hoping that the "we're extending your status" message wasn't being displayed in error on my membership page.

It worked out much to my relief, and I'll be ticking off all 4 of next year's required QF flights over the next week as I happily return home!

Which airport?
Pity your dear Mum @Mattg didn't stand her ground. We are both gold and had similar issue at MEL, presented email/screenshot for business lounge, denied entry and pointed us in the opposite direction to Q club.
We very politely informed her that this was the "sorry" invitation and she let us in - by the scowl on her face though, she certainly did not appreciate us questioning her!

Me too - although I note that my SCs haven't changed :) I guess that might change

Don't hold your hopes. My SC's were supposed to be wiped on 1st Jan, but they weren't. Everything was showing WP status to 31-DEC-2023, and even received the updated card in the mail. But on 1st of Feb they were wiped. and I hadn't received my rollover SC's by then either.

The QFF Service email had said I'd receive my Rollover SC's by end of Feb (for End of December anniversary). Didn't happen. Another email to them over the weekend, and they applied the Rollover SC's within hours. So it took some chasing up on my part, but in the end has worked out.

Why, I mean honestly why should we have to waste our time faffing around with this sort of stuff? It’s a benefit announced by the airline, it has been in practice for months and months and months now. Why is this airline incapable of getting stuff like this right?

Frigg’n hopeless.

I knew things were sus when my SC's weren't wiped clean on 1st Jan, it's happened without fail every other year.

Now Imagine how many others aren't as vigilant (or as interested as us AFFers) that won't know or realise, and hey presto QF get all the marketing publicity or being generous without any of the obligations as these people drop their status level.
