Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

has anyone successfully got the code for $50 flight voucher? I clicked on Accept, and nothing happens afterward. Mr Joyce will have to say sorry again i think.
I got the code in the app and took a screenshot. It'll also be emailed to you about a week after you click accept if it worked properly.

I think you will just have to try again later. Looks like all the Qantas Loyalty systems are very much overloaded right now.

I did manage to get it done though at 12:15am this morning.

I've got a end-of-Feb 23 anniversary and got 30k.........
Didn't you mention you just got to WP? So your anniversary would be Feb 24 right now, right?

Well whatever the criteria was why not be transparent?

"Because you have already met the criteria for a status extension (or whatever) please accept x points" or something.

The logic may make some sense, but the lack of transparency..... I mean what would it cost them to explain it more clearly?

July-Dec (whom got less in terms of extensions) get 30,000
I'd have happily taken an extension in lieu of the 30K points. Would have been great if QF gave us the option to choose what we want - one year extension or 50k points (30k seems a bit less as an "in lieu" for one year's worth of WP)

No way they would set it that low. They think the First Lounge salt & pepper squid is descended from God. More like: 'Purchase WP for the low, low price of 1,500,000 QFF points'.

Great idea.

Also noting pre-pandemic QF were charging 80k-ish points (iirc) to retain status for those that had not quite made it for WP (or was it 120? maybe it was 80 k for Gold(?) that 50k may not even be quite the right value.. but whatever amount I agree.. give us a choice. I'd have taken status into 2024 over points (because I am reducing my balance not really looking to boost).

Yes I would think so.

Not long before the pandemic they were offering WP extensions to those that didn't quite make it at the end of their membership year for burning between something like 80-150K of points (offers varied, but 120K I think was quite common).

I think I have it worked out.
July - December gets 30K regardless of whether you will be using the comp this year or not

January-June gets 15K if they haven’t already requalified and therefore will potentially use the comp. 30K if they have requalified and won’t use the comp.

My year ends 31st May 2023
Have 3K Status credits earned since June so get 15K points
If I had another 600 SC and already requalified I’d have gotten 30K points

Just another QF PR confection job not addressing root cause of issues... toss on a new blonde wig and different shade of lipstick and call me Marilyn ....but still the same old pig underneath 🙄. just going to take time for things to improve but think its clear things will never be like they were preC. Its a different world now

What are they not addressing?

Yes, I regretted not doing that. Missed out on getting the WP level of one-one lifetime status credits and was SG through the pandemic and only recently got back to WP. Though I do have a higher points balance than I would have had had I paid the points to retain WP.

If you have multiple devices with the smartphone app it will show the prompt on both devices for the $50 but it'll only work on one device.

Hindsight's a a great thing! If only they'd said "Hi mviy - we'd like to offer you the ability to extend / buy back your status, confirmed without spending a cent (well - maybe a few tax bucks) for the next 4 years..." :)

I do remember that. I'm surprised they set it at such a low value. 120K for Platinum is one credit card sign up bonus (eg ANZ are offering 160K points for $200), effectively valuing Platinum at about $150. I wonder if they will keep doing that when things return to normal. I'd happily pay $150 a year for those years I don't retain Platinum through flying. Also way cheaper than most status runs. Worth it for the First Lounge access and ability to request release of classic rewards, not to mention the ability to occasionally get HBA call centre.

I think this could be plausible. 15,000 points here and I have a 30 June expiry. I haven’t yet re-qualified in my own right, as it’s only been a month and a bit into my new membership year.

I do however have enough forward bookings over the next 8 weeks to re-qualify. But still only eligible for the 15,000 points.

I thought spending the points to extend status was not worth it when I could just level up again with a DSC promo shortly afterwards. A serve of free lifetime status credits probably would have tipped the balance in favour of spending the points for me, but yes hindsight is a great thing.

In the app when it works you'll see
"$50
QANTAS Flight Promo Code

Wherever you're dreaming of flying, we hope this helps to take you there a little sooner. Screenshot your code now or find it in your email inbox within the next 7 days. See you onboard soon."

Is 15v30K based on past/future travel history perhaps?

While Qantas can open up a few award seats, I'm finding the number of points in J required has near doubled for int. long haul, I think I'll take my business elsewhere after 30 years.

Probably only QF knows. Probably the system takes a range of factors into account, but when potentially you could have multiple people in the same household getting different amounts of points it probably will annoy some flyers. QF probably should have just given all WP and P1 30k points.
