Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

Anyone looking to get tickets should do so as soon as possible.

Once the American bloggers publicise it, they will be all gone. Reward flights to/from Australia are highly prized by North Americans and they have tonnes of ways to easily earn QFF points (it is a transfer partner of Capital One, Amex and Chase).
These seats are not available for booking by partner airlines - hence why expertflyer still shows as U0 for all flights

That's why I said 'they have tonnes of ways to easily earn QFF points (it is a transfer partner of Capital One, Amex and Chase).'

It's actually easier to earn QFF points as an American than it is an Australian. They have way more options than Australians.

I have to say the HBA call centre is an absolute delight to deal with. A super friendly agent added a J flight to a OWA I'm building and pushed through another booking that hadn't been ticketed yet. Did it in a matter of minutes. If only every interaction was this good.

This really should be the standard rather than the exception. Sigh.

Can somebody tell me how I donate the $50 to the Qantas Offshore Call Centre Training Fund? That's, what, a very decent daily wage in Manila, surely.

So if membership ends in June 2023 you get an extra entire year of status.

If membership ends in July 2023 you get an extra nothing.

who decides these things? They should have made it fair to every member and have everyone’s status extended. Not just half. Who agreed with this?

I completely disagree. If everyone's Qantas year run January to December, then your approach would be an option. But with month-to-month expiries, a blanket extension will benefit more on a sliding scale. For example, if the extension was announced today, people with a 31 August expiry wouldn't need to start accruing status until September 2023. The approach that's been announced isn't perfect but a full 12-month extension for everyone would be much more.

As a flyer with an expiry in the second half of the year, I do not benefit at all from the status extension announced today. Am I pissed at Qantas? Absolutely - but not at all for this.

A more effective way for this apology to be enacted would have been to simply (for the membership YEs in question), roll forward the amount of SCs earned. That way the actual flyers who have continued to fly / spend with QF would get a real benefit, those that had done some flying would get a boost to the start of their next membership year and those that have done no flying get nothing as they’re also the ones that haven’t had to endure QF effups

I can see a lot of merit in this and I think it would have proven to be much more equitable.

No e-ticket nor points have been deducted. Been 3 hours since booking via phone.

should i be worried?

If it's a QF flight you won't lose your seats, even if it doesn't ticket. If the flight is soon then call back tomorrow, otherwise I would just relax and think about it closer to the time if it still isn't ticketed.

Can you see your booking and does seat selection work?

Sadly I don’t see much benefit in today’s announcement for me personally. I am WP with membership year September and was offered $50 and 30k points.

I have a seven-figure points balance, so the extra points don’t hold much value for me. The $50, well it takes a lot more money than that to reach and hold WP, so $50 credit doesn’t really excite me. I also already did what was needed to requalify for my next year.

I saw a suggestion earlier in the thread of having a choice between extension and points - this would have been more sensible.

I’m frustrated like some others here. I’d have preferred to see Qantas extend everyone’s status to June 2024. If this meant you fell back to a lower tier before your membership year concluded in Jul-Dec 2024, then so be it (of course not sure if the system could handle such a laborious calculation), but it would have put everyone on a level playing field. It would have also encouraged those with membership ending in Jul-Dec 2024 to get back to working on maintaining their status the old fashioned way.

On QF metal. Yes booking works. Seats selected.

will give it a few days

Thanks

Looks like all of the business class flights to Europe and the US have been snapped up. Hope that dopamine hit isn't short lived and they look at improving their customer service.

I was 335 SC's and 1x QF sector away from retaining WP (Mar 23 anniverary). So guess I can put my effort into retaining status with NZ now. Also transferred some US amex points and grabbed a LAX-MEL classic reward in J so I can't complain....until they change/cancel that flight and I need to wait hours on the phone to get it sorted

NOTE: For Platinum/Platinum One, you must click on the link in the e-mail to accept the 15,000/30,000 points.

The points are not automatic and it's not immediately obvious that you need to do this just skimming the e-mail.
I'm Platinum but I didn't receive the points email, and wondering if it's because my profile has a UK address. Can someone who go the email check the T&C's to see if it says only for members currently living in Australia?

My email said to click on the link to accept these offers, which I did. States $50 only available only in Australia and NZ. Goes on to advise points will come automagically within 2 weeks. No mention of location for the points, but You must have accepted to receive marketing and news emails to receive this offer.

Same here. Platinum based in the UK and no email at all yet. In the app I get the offer for $50 but obviously can't accept.
