Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Slightly OT, but Qantas could learn something from KLM 's intra EU J flights.
No fancy linen but wonderful service and food not bad either.

HKG to Mel on the QF30 this week.

Food was disappointing. My other half went to bed and slept all the way through because nothing appealed to him. He didn’t miss out on anything. 😂

Dinner - bread roll and salad was better than the main course of Thai green curry prawns. I was hoping for the mango mousse that I saw everyone posting for dessert but it wasn’t available so I just went with fresh fruit.

Breakfast - noodles were cold and dim sims were rock hard. The congee was not bad and croissant was warm.

Service was poor at first. We had a girl that greeted us and was very rude and acted very arrogant. Luckily she went to service a different section of the business class. We ended up having a lovely lady who was attentive and friendly.

A special call out to the Qantas lounge team for both service and food. They went out of their way to chase down the yum cha trolley for me.
Pics attached.

Haaaang on.. I believe you sneaked in a picture of the food from The Pier (CX) 😏 - Well done on scoring yourself a spoon btw. They are hard to come by for some reason.

I wanna see the QF yum cha trolley!

I'm on QF29 in a few weeks time - I'll report back on my experience.

Expectations are very low, considering this thread and just overall 'Qantas'.

QF35 (MEL-SIN) yesterday.

I flew this same flight last week. Will echo others and say overall I found the food quite good and much better then I was expecting.

I went for the chicken skewers/pork/mango mousse and all were tasty. Only negative being that the both the chicken and pork were a bit lukewarm

my wife on the other hand found the plant based dining options a bit underwhelming but that’s par for the course for her on planes so I’m not surprised

LOL … sorry I did also go to the Pier - other half had food whilst I went for a shower. Good pick up hahaha

Just a comment on the shower facilities at the Pier. It is one of my fav. It was even better than the Qantas one which I sussed out. You can also request additional amenities. Staff were efficient and friendly to bring whatever you needed.

Here’s the food that the staff chased down for me from Yum cha trolley.

Loved the signature sauces. ☺️

@mx838383 and @MelbFlyer Glad I took the advice of AFFer's and ate in the Lounge - note my post #29 Hong Kong Lounge thread.

On board QF30 last Saturday, I chose the plant based Potato and roasted garlic soup with pine nuts and thyme oil - okay but needed salt - and I am not one who value adds to a meal.
Dessert of chocolate mousse with raspberry was adequate.
After the attentive service of CX and KLM day and night flights felt QF didn't quite measure up.

I still lament the loss of the express dinner… I’m usually exhausted so just want a cheese plate and red then catching Zzzs….hopefully they’ll bring these back as the full service just isn’t worth waiting hours for
Whilst I don't disagree - particularly on the short overnights from Asia - I feel that QF are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

They can't please everyone and if they moved to an 'express dinner' then there would be those in the peanut gallery saying that they 'paid a lot of money for it not to be a full meal service' (similar to the commentary when QF had the 'cafe' breakfast years ago with the aim to maximise rest / not start making noise 2 hours out from the destination. Unfortunately pleasing the population in this instance is going to be impossible.

As an aside - I have in the past just asked for something quick if so desired and they've generally been quite good about it (as in told me what they're able to get quickly so that I can maximise sleep).

I've got an overnight flight from SIN to MEL (QF38) next month and it departs Singapore at 11:30pm.

After being in the lounge and eating / drinking there, I'm not sure if I'd want a full 3 course meal at 1:30am (most likely the time that meals will be served), but at the same time - I want the "full" experience as breakfast will most likely be just that - breakfast.

I guess I'll just have to sleep (if I can) very full!

Well you’re correct of timing, but my recollection is not of a filling 3-course meal. Most likely a supper, mediocre offering that will be delivered hours into the flight.

I now usually eat in the lounge on that late flight, then sleep.

QF30 departure 9.55 pm last Saturday, meal (had soup and dessert) served 80 minutes into flight, most chose not to eat.
Felt the crew were happy with that, and not proactive in offering another beverage. Lights out very promptly.
We were still on EU time so watched movies.

That's a bit disappointing then - you'd still expect no matter what time the flight is, that a "full" meal would be served at some point during the flight especially in business. If not upon takeoff, then later in the flight at least.

Furthermore, as much as Qantas likes to word "a personalised dining experience" on their menus, it's moreso implying that you have a "choice of meals", rather than dining on demand.

If Qantas had a supper service after takeoff, then something like a 3 course meal for breakfast / in place of "breakfast", this would be ideal, but then it's Qantas we're talking about..

For my trip, Singapore will be an intentional 2 night stopover coming back from Europe, to break up the trip back home and also to assist with reducing jetlag.

I'd imagine that as per above, they'd serve a small supper, then breakfast prior to landing (ie. no "full" 3 course meal?)

If that's the case, I'd miss out on a "full" 3 course meal, due to the timing of the flight.

Has anyone had a midnight departure from Singapore to Melbourne lately and can vouch for what is offered?

I think with the price paid for a J flight, there should be the option of both. Want a full meal, go for it. Want an express meal, that's ok too. You're paying for the option/flexibility in J.

Hopefully someone can share the SIN-MEL menu for you.
We had one night in HKG, clearly not enough to adjust!

Thankyou, I'll be going the opposite direction when leaving Australia - MEL to HKG on QF29 and that will be a daytime flight so I'm expecting a full 3 course meal after takeoff plus a refreshment prior to landing.
