Qantas Business Class meals & menus

This is not the same as "not being offered a meal".

You were offered a choice of meals, likely 3 entrees and 3 mains, and elected not to eat anything....

Yes, there were three mains on offer. There were no entrees on the menu.

I flew QF51 to SIN and I flew QF2 to SIN. On both of those flights, they had other options. It just seemed to be that all options on the flights out of SIN that really just catered to a specific palate.

Putting aside NP's claim to fame, I find it hard to believe there were no non-Asian options, even if we isolate just main courses.
And/or soup and dessert options.

Also QF usualy offer cheese courses - at the very least could have cobbled together some cheese, bread, side salad etc.

Maybe not glamorous, but if all the offered mains wrre not acceptable, I doubt there's avsolutely nothing (bar the Toblerone) that could be had
.

Perhaps in future a special meal requestion might be a "safer" option?

To be fair, the QF Select on Q or whatever it was called was not really like BTC imo. It was mire to preorder from the existing flight menu options. Iirc there may have been one or two "extra" meal options to irder but it wasn't like SQ's extensuve BTC iffering (out of SIN anyway. Ex-AU has been far far more limited in my experience) with say 40+ items to chose from.

QF has never had anything like that. Not that many other carriers do.
Select on Q-Eat, as it was called, initially offered an additional main plate option as an online exclusive, which was subsequently removed. The service was discontinued well before COVID. A shame, because I thought it worked well and it was useful being able to see the menu offering in advance.

I don't know why, but I don't seem to be able to post pictures. I tried attaching them as files to my post, and I've tried the "Insert image" option

Menu Select was available right up to covid.
I have an email from Qantas reminding me to select my meal for my upcoming Singapore to Melbourne flight on 11 March 2020.

I've never seen or used Imgur before, so hopefully this works.
Well no offence, but to me, Moussaka is def not asian, plus there's the salad, then none of the desserts are "asian" and the mud flight snacks are an biriyani and or a.. pozza "thing"

Even the sea bass could potentially be had without the sambal. I would have asked tbh (well no, I love sambal myself lol)

Seems a definite variety there. Not the best I understand, but most could cobble together a meal there I think.

Anyway perhaps best to not drag this thread off track.

Sorry that you couldn't be, uh, catered for.

Whilst not being witness to your specified flights and food service WG, I do hear and support your general observations!
Whilst Spice Bars, noodles and fusion hype are clearly popular, not all of us enjoy that palate.
Some of us are destined to forever make our own economy ham, cheese slice and salad sandwiches it seems.
QF should at the minimum offer a choice between West and East.
Kudos to the Manaia Lounges in NZ.

I wasn't happy with the business menu. She never actually offered anything else.
I'm with you. Pork belly aka pork fat. And don't do seafood. Vegie sometimes ok but never eggplant. Not a real meat option on the menu. A big fail. Didn't really have an option to offer and probably knew it.

Well, that's clearly quite a few... Asian... options. A lot of menus that have been posted here usually have a fish or beef dish which isn't Asian, but admittedly sound boring compared to what's on that menu.

Biriyani is definitely Asian (Indian). Pizette is a small pizza :)

There might be an issue if the sambal butter is already spread on the fish before being warmed up. Then you can't separate it.

If it were me, and no Asian food wanted, maybe I would ask if the fish could be had without the butter. Otherwise, the moussaka, salad, pizette (maybe two if possible), cheese and dessert. Doesn't sound as sexy as anyone else who would eat something from the menu, but it is far from scraps or "nothing to eat".

Worse comes to worse, how about asking if W or Y had any spare meals that aren't Asian? No, that's not a proper fallback, but depends on how much one is starving.

Special meal requests probably wouldn't avoid Asian food. I don't think there is a SPML for "no Asian flavours" or likewise. VGML is at least half the time Indian (but the rest of the time is likely Mediterranean, i.e. Italian or Greek). I don't know what bland meals would be. Not sure if anyone would be interested in the fruit meal.

Pork belly isn't all fat - just cut off the fat if you don't wish to chew it. :)

There was chicken biriyani, unless you believe chicken isn't a real meat. (Or you mean you want a piece or joint of meat)

Have to say, the fish with sambal butter reminds me of a similar dish that was on offer in the SIN QF F lounge some time ago. I find it amusing that sambal can actually go with capers and work. Maybe they should have re-offered the dish as the fish with either sambal butter and rice or lemon beurre blanc with garlic potato mash. It wouldn't cost a lot more space because there's a dish that has rice with it already - just hope that not everyone orders the fish with rice as well as all the pork and you're good.

This is one of the rare menus I've seen where nearly all the mains options (including mid-flight options) are Asian. And sure, they are flying from Singapore (Asia) and Asian cuisine ranks extremely high on favourite cuisine types amongst Australians. No prejudice or persecution intended against those stating so here; the number of people I've met who will definitively not eat Asian food/flavours could be counted on one hand.

Side thought. I guess when I hear "Asia" I think if course SEA, but also the north eg Japan, China, Korea etc.

I know the UK and others include the Indian subcontinent inc Sri Lankan as "asian" too, but I personally consider Indian as a very separate cuisine group and taste to Asian in general. Certainly in my experience in Oz, you might say to someone "What do you feel like? Asian? Mexican? Indian etc"

but I digress :)

italian is definitely NOT asian :)

Agreed. No harm to ask. Sometimes sauces/toppings are added in the galley during plating. Sometimes not.

from earloer posts seems FA "offered" but never came back about it.

Yeah I thought of that too. I figure a bland meal at least would avoid the spices/flavours of "aasia"or even perhaps Kosher.

Of course a special meal is still a workaround of sorts (and not giaranteed) to the problem for some pax.

it's a delicate line isn't it? On one hand, having "destination" dishes (or origin) is seen as generally good, unless you dislike :) if one just has more generic fish, steak or pumpkin dishes then it's "boring" and not catering to customers to/,from a destination.

and a very different sort of taste to mist SEA type meals. I love a good biriyani !

I didn't often select a meal in advance, but I loved seeing the menu beforehand. EK posts its menus online for each route and for every month.
