Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Re: ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

It is a 4 hour domestic flight!

Yes i know but they carried on saying they were going to full international menu and they charge $1000+ a seat

2 small plate and 5 main plate options seem pretty international-standard to me...

Define full international? From what I have seen even on Qantas (and many other airlines) the meal service on international flights varies by length. Clearly LAX and LHR via DXB gets a different service to say SYD to CGK or SYD to BKK. Looking at the menu it is better than I have ever seen on 4 hour international flights, though must admit I am using BA as the yard stick.

Im just saying.... add a dessert . Pretty sure VA offer one.

There should be cheese/dessert third course.

The crew were not too happy with the AC change (from A330 to B737) but did their best. Here is what I ordered:

Sesame crusted salmon. Was yum.

Hokkien noodle chicken salad. Also quite good.

The crew pointed out that I hadn't ordered a hot dish.

There was a small dessert offered (a sweet biscuit) and the cheese plate was available.

Small plates - Creamy Cauliflower Soup...
Main plates - Big Bowl of Creamy Cauliflower Soup...

Like, seriously?!

I didn't see anyone take any Cauliflower soup. Small or Big. :)

Re: ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

Yeah $2 bowl of soup for dinner. Nice

To be fair I agree. The entree and the mains have been ok (and yes you do have more choice than just a hot dog for those complaining), it is just the dessert where it falls down.

The marshmallow type dessert served on a serviette wasn't that great TBH.

Re: ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

It is a 4 hour domestic flight!

With fares often in excess of First class for a comparable journey on international flights, I think the offering should be more comprehensive.

If OZ can offer four courses including an excellent steak on a 90 minute flight (and a dessert), why can't we have the same?

Domestic Australian fares are very high. A tub of ice-cream, or even pushing the boat out to offering ice-cream sundaes would not be a lot to ask.

The price for J is very high and the non-refurb seats are not the best so a decent meal is not too much to ask for.
Having said that I remember being offered a choice of dessert before (chocolate mousse or cheese plate IIRC) plus 2 options of dessert wine which is not bad at all.
I hope the dessert wasn't "enhanced" ;)

I've ordered the soup as a refreshment meal in the past on a shorter hop - found it to be very tasty and quite filling. Particularly with the bread they offer. And I'm a soup-is-not-a-meal kinda guy.

But I agree, seeing it poured out of a dinged-up Qantas thermos, complete with 'Security Screened' stickers, took the pizzazz out of meal service a bit.

MrsOATEK said she was greatly relieved to have the soup option on a recent flight after a hectic day. Said she didn't feel like a fish fillet or stroganoff-type option. Personally, soup is not for me - rarely touch the stuff (enjoyed the fish though)!

Exactly! They used to serve small tubs of Maggie Beer Ice Cream not so long ago in J - as I posted in another thread recently - a small (the size of a 50 cent piece) dry piece of date slice in a patty pan doesn't constitute dessert for me.

Had the small tub of Icecream in J on the Jetconnect to AKL a couple of weeks ago.

Re: ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

IME QF still do ice cream tubs on "longer" short haul flights (2nd service, after lunch/dinner), the problem is PER/transcon has been upgraded to "international big/small plates" thus the lack of ice cream on those flights?

Re: ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

I find I get better food on the short haul regional flights than I do on the PER/transcon flights in J. Actually, I think the food QF serves in Y is better than the food in J half the time as well.

Re: ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

You can ask to have the Y meal and/or dessert. I've done that plenty of times.

One time when I was honestly surprised and disgusted with the J meal on SYD/ADL, the cabin attendant agreed and came back with the tech crew's meals for me to choose from. Much tastier!

Austman, is that a photo of a cup of water with ice, taken from the top of the cup?
Whats the shimmer though, is the liquid the "harder stuff"?
I have never ever tried to order cider on QF, but VA is happy to sell me a can of cider after 11am. Aud$7 a pop.
