Qantas Business Class meals & menus

They've basically changed nothing but just added more loose wording that's only going to be disappoint people who interpret as dine on demand.

I suspect that too. I mean, who composes these things? Could they not have written "Whether you'd like to enjoy a full meal after take-off or a section of snack dishes throughout your flight..." if that's what is actually offered?

Are they trying to give customers a brief frisson of believing they have choice of when they eat (knowing that on long haul, some may be on different time zones and/or may have eaten in a lounge) or is there disconnect between whoever does the wording and crew on board?

Sorry for the thread diversion, but I was genuinely hopeful there had been a change.

31 August 2023 - QF674 ADL - MEL

This was the first leg on the way to Singapore. Adelaide's lounge isn't anything that special. Will look forward to update as both the lounge and amenities are dated. Best part is the barista-made coffee which I can takeaway. The usual scrambled eggs, bacon, beans and toast were offered and had.

No PDB offered although I was one of the last to board the plane. I've learnt my lesson with AM flights and typically spend more time eating/resting in the lounge at the expense of waiting at the gate.

Decent cheesy mushroom quiche offering with a quite tart tomato salsa. Got the bubbly. I do enjoy the yoghurt that they serve as well as buttered bread. Service was different than I have experienced recently on QF. Less laid back style attitude and a little more formal. Overall pretty much a usual domestic J transit flight. Flight always arrives a little early which is nice.

This was the second day operating this menu, as reported to me by the lovely CSS. She hadn’t had a chance to try any of the newer offerings and was unable to make any recommendations! Nevertheless, I was excited to try this new menu.

Kicked off the meal with a arancini, but unfortunately no margarita was loaded on. Fear not, a glass of vino sufficed!

The chicken skewers were a pleasant surprise, packing with adequate flavour for an in flight item. The skewers appeared a crowd favourite, as I saw probably half the cabin chomping down on it!

I don’t know why they say to never order the fish, because the snapper was one of the best dishes I’ve had on QF. The accompanying snow peas and rice were succulent and supported the fish very well.

Another main served was the beef fillet, which I had tried before. However, it was order by my family and as the picture may support, the beef was drier than desired.

As they brought around the dessert tray, I struggled to make up my mind! Ultimately, the mango mousse made its way onto the table, and was absolutely divine. Not letting that stop me, the CSS came back with a cheese platter as well, as well as some cognac to conclude a wonderful lunch.

Closer to the last few hours of the flight, orders for a light meal prior to arrival were being taken. This served as a dinner as the flight was delayed by a few hours.

The pork packed moderate spice and the rice cakes were the right amount of chewy. There was so much pork on that plate it was difficult to finish, but definitely better to have more than less.

The plant based option looked similar to domestic offerings and was reported to be equally pleasant, as pictured.

Overall, a great new menu selection and attentive service throughout.

The menu says "Australia to Hong Kong" - I'll be flying from Melbourne to HK - I wonder if it will be the same menu?

Considering the wording is Australia to HK, I'd imagine so? If yes, the meal options look okay.

Yeah, technology beat me. Trying to upload on the tarmac with no signal. But that means you get a more in-depth post..
New menu they told me on board

The arancini ball was good, firm and flavourful.
IMG_0691.jpeg

I went the salmon salad and despite not being a salmon fan this was delicious. Full of flavour, jalapeño making itself known, salad crisp.IMG_0697.jpeg

Neils greens were, well, Neil’s greens and something a 12 year old ought to be proud of.

The beef main was ok. Spuds tasty, the beef was tender but a bit well done for me. It was a bit small for a main and you may be wanting if you were wanting a full meal.
IMG_0702.jpeg
Dessert time came and I went the cheese platter. Good size pieces of a mild ash Brie, a creamy blue and a bitey cheddar. Enough crackers to last the cheese.
IMG_0703.jpeg
As luck would have it I was asked if I wanted ice cream. Only for you, good reader, did I accept. But instead of vanilla ice cream as requested I got a sandwich. Interesting; dry ice frozen ice cream is hard to deliver and it had that dry ice feel. But was enjoyable.

2 red wines on offerm a cab sav and a Shiraz. I had been chuffing down Levantine Hill cab sav in the decanter in the lounge (thanks for THAT tip aff’ers)
so I went with the Shiraz. May have been a bit bold but I managed a few glasses.
To address previous questions about ‘on demand’ it wasn’t offered or implied.

QF7 breakfast.
I didn’t get a pic of the menu as were we encouraged to fill it in before putting our seatbelt on (or so it seemed).
No more bacon and egg roll for this redneck so went with a scrambled egg, snag and kale dish.
I didn’t realise they now have espresso machines on board so took tea, but prior to that had a very acceptable large flat white.
The dish was ok, not hot and the egg’s actually resembled real eggs .

And as I exceeded my photo limit on the previous post, here’s a gratuitous shot of the decanted wine in the FLounge

For those who fly domestic routes often in J, does anyone know what happened to the really nice cakes they used to serve instead of the ice cream for dessert?

In the last 6 months I've flown from to DRW/ASP/BNE/MEL/SYD/PER/ADL/CNS/CBR on a variety of platforms and across different meal times and haven't seen any cake since probably February before they brought in the new menu.

Am I just flying the wrong routes or does Qantas no longer serve tea cakes? Or is it only at certain times? If you've seen them in your recent travels please let me know - I'm almost willing to take an indirect route next time I fly if there's a chance of cake.

Unless the cake is a lie... iykyk

I had the cake on a recent SYD/MEL

A couple of recent domestic leisure flights and service and food were chalk and cheese.
ADL-SYD QF746
Priority boarding not enforced at all and a free for all, no PDB (not even bottle water) Service and crew were great though. I chose the Kung Pao chicken and it was tasty and enjoyed it. Cake was rock hard and disgusting but still a good meal. Spirits proactively topped up frequently and very friendly staff. Use of J loo was heavily enforced. All in all decent flight

SYD-HTI QF578
Morning flight, Priority boarding enforced and well worked, bottle of water and PDB offered but that’s about where the service stopped. Breakfast was a black rice salad and was absolutely disgusting and actually tasted off. Going by others in J who barely ate any I figured the same. Other options were scrambled eggs or Bircher muesli. Service was inattentive and seemed quite disjointed. Had a vodka for breakfast but glass sat empty forever and no sign of staff. Constant stream of passengers using the forward loo and on disembarking there was no effort to prevent the herd storming the front so had to take matters into my own hands.
Really poor flight

Oh and a big fail to the SYD QF Dom J lounge.
Absolute pigsty and a disgrace to their network

Cake on several recent flights and it was horrible on all. The most recent on ADL-SYD was harder than a cricket ball
Couldn’t agree more! I’m amazed that anyone really likes these awful sugar-loaded things but tastes are obviously different. And they’re still a common item on Domestic routes from what I can tell.

I always wish they offered some cheese and crackers instead.

No I have had it out of Brisbane a number of times lately.

The below are W menus/meals (mods feel free to move if there's a W thread.. couldn't find one) and I was surprised at how close they felt in quality to a J meal - other than being served on a tray. The side salads in particular were better than anything I'd ever been served in QF J.

I've always just assumed based on my experience that the Y+ meals are just a subset of the J meals. I think F&B in Y+ is something QF do better than most other airlines (based on QF experience and reading online).
