Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF 28 SCL-SYD

Another example of Timezone appropriate meal service. 13:30 sep / 17:50+1 arrival. Lunch and Dinner. Looks like dinner will be the main meal - which should be good if not trying to sleep much (which I’m not).

Will report back after arrival - yes, still no wifi obs…

Oh, PDB was Veuve.

HBA-MEL 10:10 QF mainline flight.

Two hot options on this morning refreshment flight. Scrambled eggs with bacon and spinach; or my selection mushroom frittata with pork sausages, tomato and mushrooms.

IMG_4929.jpeg

Very substantial and tasty frittata. While the sausages were basic breakfast fare, they were smoky and also tasty. And there were two!

Impressed with the meal and the options at this time.

Great service from Michael the CSM. Flight slowed down by ATC so he was able to provide a relaxed service in a full J cabin.

MEL-AKL evening service. Standard flight with 3 options of Wagyu beef with jasmine rice; Asian pork noodles; cold chicken salad.
Tried the beef for a change.

Mistake. Very tough and chewy. Pasta salad was nice.

PDBs offered promptly. Service from CSM Andy and in particular Esther generally very good. But shortcomings for a 3 hour flight included no pre-meal drinks and plain old water offered before descent.

QF 1910 CBR-BNE 2 March 2024

My first trip on the Embraer 190 and it was really good. Travelled with Mr Seat 0A, and we both got a bottle of water as a pre-departure beverage.

I had eaten a few things in the lounge in CBR before boarding so I wasn't that hungry and I chose the cheese plate, which was really nice.

Mr Seat 0A chose the meat pie, and was very impressed - good pastry (not soggy) and actual chunks of tender meat in the pie. I almost had orderer's remorse!

Oh I forgot that I took a photo of the return flight meal QE 1907 on 8 March 2024.

Also on the E190 - but this time, no water offered on boarding. Again, I had eaten a few snacks in the lounge prior to boarding so did not think I would bother to eat. But then I saw the pax across the aisle get this Plowman's Plate, and I thought - hmm looks yummy, why not. Mr Seat 0A evidently agreed as he also chose this light meal. It was very good. I was offered bread, but declined.

QF catering seem to be getting confused - that looks much more like the quiche option. QF513 BNE-SYF 13 March offered scrambled eggs, quiche or frittata, and the frittata was actually frittata and looked like this (tasty enough, but everything was only luke warm)

AKL-SYD Wednesday night. Options were pasta, salad and the chook. Went the chicken.

I didn't eat much of the chook ... Tough as old boots ...

Rest was fine especially the salad.

I had a chicken dish in economy the week before MEL-AKL which was much better.

QF489 SYD - MEL
Thai Pork Curry - the worst thing I've eaten on a plane. Took one bite and that was it. Awful. Service was also pretty poor. CSM was quite rude
May I ask what was so bad with the curry? Looks a bit dry maybe but curries usually go well on airplanes. Was it the meat quality? The sauce? Too much rice?

And a rude CSM sounds very out of place at Qantas. A bit lazy or slow maybe but rude- what exactly makes you say this?

Wow- I would love to think that this cannot be true but a.) that lounge is generally terrible and I wouldn't put it past them and b.) it does look like the Sydney Domestic J lounge at first glance. Truely a new low if it's indeed real and they put it out like that.
Slow cooked, spiced ribs are delicious (I'm thinking the Chinese soft ribs served at many yum chas), but I wouldn't serve them on a lounge buffet.

You end up with people basically taking off the meat and leaving the bones behind. Doesn't help that when you put them into the bain marie, they may well fall off the bone anyway (which means they were cooked right), which may be OK at home but not when presenting it at a buffet.

Maybe it looks better when the dish was freshly served. After all, the best lounge beat up photos to take are that when the tray should have been replaced (e.g. everyone's taken something, or all the good stuff, like meat, is gone, leaving just the gravy). Which can happen in any lounge with a buffet.

I agree that this a deliberately unflattering example, however in my experience the hot food offerings have looked like that on more than one occasion, for long periods of time.

Let’s also remember that this is a business class lounge. As a point of reference, here’s a quick look at their partner’s (EK) business business class offering in Sydney… I couldn’t find a hot food offering in my quick search but from what I remember they were better presented right from the outset.
