Qantas Business Rewards [Replaces Aquire]

Re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

As a sole trader just getting underway the chnage works for me although I expect I will exceed the old 20000 points threshold it was the 2 employee minimum that was going to hold me up so I am pleased to see that barrier removed. I am hopeful of reaching Level 2 but the Red Deal discount at even the Level 2 would have been useful.

Note that it was possible under the Aquire scheme for a one person business to successfully request the 2+ pax qualification rule to be waived. (Unwritten, but available to some who asked.)

That is now moot.

Coming in at level 1, which accurately reflects my engagement with Qantas over the past year.

Edit: Strangely, the points balance stated in the e-mail yesterday is different to the balance on the web site account today (same ABN, no flying recently), and neither is the total of points awarded in trips ... never mind.

I thought I would post some feed back that business team provided today and it may be good news for some who may be be on the cusp of groups 1/2 or 2/3 and hope it makes sense.

When I saw thes changes I was put in group 2 and was a bit disappointed as all my up coming J flights would reduce to 30% earn and was not overly happy. I did not really care about the removal of the 20K requirement or 2 travelers as this was not an issue my myself. Before I go on the facts about my old Aquire account in an attempt to make it easy to follow.

  • roll overdate 30 Sep
  • annual Aquire points earn rate ~100K base points +/- 10% so right on the level 2/3.
  • 12 month earn rate to 30 Sep 16 ~96K points
  • Earn rate since 1 Oct 16 ~35K

I immediately assumed that my group 2 allocation was based on my earn rate for the 12 months ending 30 Sep 16. I called them up with the intent of getting some dispensation or get a challenge to Sep 17 to crack 100K as I am currently on track however the reduction of J fights to 30% may put this at risk.

This is at the point I received the good news. I was informed that the initial allocation of groups was based on on the previous 12 month earn rate up to Feb 17, this also becomes your starting figure until your end of year roll over (first year only). In my case the previous 12 month earn rate to Feb 17 was ~89K and with points not yet applied this increases to ~93K as at today. I was advised that in this first year I only need to earn ~7K more points before 30 Sep 17 and I become group 3. Also as soon as you hit 100K you immediately get the group three benefits, so I should get there within 4-6 weeks then straight onto the 40% earn rate and larger discounts.

The agent also said bonus point are counted towards the base earn rate.

I then retain group 3 until Sep 18 and at this point it becomes rolling like SCs if you don't meet the earn the minimum required you drop down a level, the agent was quick point out there is no life time accruals.

I presume others hers on the cusp of group 1/2 are being managed the same.

I trust this makes sense.

Can anyone advise if a QF Voucher can be used to purchase the discounted fares via Qantas Business Direct?

It can be, you've just gotta book over the phone. There's a Right on Q card they can follow too (I'll post it later). I've given up doing this: just too hard to convince agents some times.

I'm deciding if I should grab some vouchers during the double SC promotion to use later on work flights.

Did you get charged a booking fee when you have done this in the past?

On a slightly different tack, can you book "sale" fares through business direct, not to gain any additional discount, but to gain the points and adjusted tier allocation due to flights booked via a sale?

Also here as well. Considering signing up so that I get some benefits if I can't find a BP ;)

I thought of that too until I saw this

  • All for a low monthly fee of $2.95 per card
think I'll apply, get the bonus then cancel, even if I have to pay for a few months it will still be cheap points

I saw that and closed my browser down. I didn't check if there is a minimum contract period, i.e. 12 months....???

even $36 for the 10,000 bonus points seems reasonable....will have a think about it.
