Qantas Cash Card

Apart from the Bankwest ($2k min deposit a month) account that earns QFF points, some people who don't like being in hock or who get rejected for true credit cards, using a prepaid points earning/raking in card does have its advantages.
As a working pooch, I make a touch under $2k.
Dog goodie treats not counted as income.

Can't think of a good reason why you pay 1% to transfer from one debit card to another debit card!

It could cone in handy if you need to withdraw foreign cash while overseas and your other debit card couldn't do that.

If you could instantly load AUD funds from other debit card to QF Cash card you can then convert the AUD into your currency of choice immediately.

A better idea would be to have a few hundred dollars in AUD already loaded onto the QCC so you can do any currency conversions immediately.

If my status changes from e.g. PS to SG whilst overseas and I have QANTAS Cash, is the old card deactivated or is it only deactivated when I activate the new card?

I recently changed from NB to PS and I tried my NB card in two machines at the airport to get my boarding passes and it was rejected so I'm guessing they deactivate the old card as soon as you get a new status tier?

I have just made my first purchase using the cash card - website says points are credited monthly to QFF account. I've searched the forum and some old posts say that it takes 4-6 weeks for first purchase points to be credited - does anyone know if that still the case? Is the monthly transfer date specific (end of month) or particular to QFF membership?

I asked the same question recently and QF told me that the old one will continue to work as long as the new one isnt activated.

Mrs SydneySwan's transfers always seem to happen on the 22nd of the month. Mine always happen on the 21st. I have no idea why.

Hi Bazzi,

For the first purchase, it will take 4-6 weeks for points to be credited and then for subsequent purchases it will be on a monthly basis. The transfer date is unique for each membership. If you want me to find out what date this is for you let me know :)

Well, another email arrived today, titled "Here's another chance to earn bonus points". You need to load AUD$1000 or more in foreign currency to earn 2000 bonus points, and must be done within 7 days.
Pity it started by asking "did you miss out on our last bonus points offer" (3000 points). The answer is Yes, I'm still waiting for those 3000 points from the last offer in April 2016. It's been 8 weeks now. And I'm not sure I got the bonus exchange rate that was offered at that time. How long do I have to wait? Who runs this cash card with its bonuses? The email came from 'loyalty.qantas.com'.

Qantas Cash

I noted people enquiring about QANTAS Cash.
I used used it on my 6 week trip to Europe as an experiment using modest amounts of cash. My current trip is about to end.
Of the reported 2,400 ATMs across the globe that accept the QANTAS Cash card we found only two that would honour the card at ATMs - England (0), Scotland (1), The Czech Republic (0), Italy from Venice to Sicily (1), Malta (0).
All expense and inconvenience involved getting our money from QANTAS Cash via Western Union had to be met by us and the support service from QANTAS and Western Union appalling and at times non existent. QANTAS provided no priority service and ignored all requests for email contact. Never again. Appalling product with no reliable backup.

Re: Qantas Cash

Thats really surprising. We've used them a few times on long trips. Europe, USA, and throughout Asia.

Times when we couldn't get money out, it was usually user error (selecting the wrong account). We always went to major banks. Now when I damaged the chip one year, that was a pain in the butt! But it was again, my fault.

Just wondering, if you noted people asking about QF cash, why didn't you reply to their thread instead of starting this one?

Merged into the original thread.

just starting to look at booking Uk accommodation for my parents next year. The rate for the card isn't oo bad for GBPs compared to getting cash.Am I correct in that if I load the card with GBPs and then pay in the same currency that I'll still receive 2 points for each equivalent dollar in spending, or would that only be if I loaded AUD onto the card and then they it's converted into GBPs for me.

The 3 points per $ on loading is a decent incentive as I'm thinking we could be paying at least $10000 or more for accommodation costs, and possibly pre paying for some tours and other costs.

Getting the equivalent of 5 points per $ under that scenario is very appealing, though I wont be surprised if the reality is not quite so beneficial.

Not sure where you found 5 points per dollar?

Under the current promotion, you will get 2 pts per dollar for loading funds onto the card, into a foreign currency (corrected CMA222, sorry, the original explanation wasn't what I meant to type but was the result of editing and moving text around to make more sense, oops)..

You also will get 1 point per dollar spent when you pay for bookings, etc.

You get ONE point per TWO dollars when spending AUD in Australia.

"Decent" exchange rate depends.... It depends if you are loading just AUD, or locking in your GBP rate. Pay attention to how you load your funds. You would need to have the funds as AUD on the card if you want to use the card in Australia. as they charge more fees for moving funds from one currency to another (If you lock the load in as GBP, and you go to pay in AUD, but have no AUD, they "transfer the GBP back into AUD at a not very favorable rate and if I remember correctly, charge a fee to do so).

Here is the clause they have in the PDS (even though the QF Cash site said "no currency conversion fees", they add a "^^" at the end of that sentence....

Does that explain what you were asking?

It is very clear that the load must be "foreign currency" and the amounts are expressed as "Load amount (equivalent in foreign currency)". No points for loading A$$'s.
