Qantas Cash Card

Just a quick question, folks, from a QF Cash newbie: I haven't used the QF Cash card for overseas travel yet. I know it works here in Australia, but then I've really only done small payments using the Pay Wave/Pass option for purchases under $100.

However, when using it overseas when the pay wave thing isn't an option – do you insert the 'Q' chip, as per a chip card or is that only applicable on the frequent flyer side of the card? If not, do you just swipe it for payments, and then key in the PIN/sign a signature?

You just use it like a normal credit card, insert or swipe as venue requires then enter your pin.

Thanks for your prompt response, much appreciated!

Btw, am I right in that there is no minimum spend per transaction on the card? And as for a maximum spend per day, that's around $2000 or so, thus meaning that spending a few hundred $$$ is perfectly fine?

I thought that when this card first came out, the maths didn't add up with the terrible exchange rates?

That's correct, there is no minimum spend per transaction required to use the card. You can view all limits here: https://www.qantascash.com/rates-fees/limits/

Cheers,

Yep You can spend $2 if you want! The amount will be determined by the minimum a shop is willing to allow you to use a card for but that's all. Remember, if you are needing to choose the type of account (as distinct to PayWave) remember to use Credit. Even though its cash the system thinks it's a credit card

Received same email:
Counting down the days until your next holiday? Now you can count on some extra dollars too by taking advantage of our Five Day Frenzy.

Qantas Cash is offering special rates on foreign exchange for five days only*. Lock in the rate on up to ten foreign currencies including Pounds, US Dollars and Euros
[SUP]~[/SUP].

You'd better be quick! This offer ends at midnight on 16 September 2016.
So is that saying 'for rest of year we offer cough rates'? I'm tippin' you won't get over market odds for those 5 days.

Hey I've just received in my inbox details from Qantas on "The Five Day frenzy" with special FX rates from Qantas Cash.

Could anyone pls shed some light on whether this is worth going for? thanks

based on the USD rate you can do better at travelex or travelmoneyoz

generally i find unless you get a bonus of qff for transfer it's not worth it based on the conversion rate adn teh fact you'll pay to get your money out at an atm overseas.

you do get the other benefits of not having the physical cash on you and some like that security

i put 5K on mine a couple of months back when they had 3 points per $ transferred and converted. the exchange rate was decent at the time and I saw it as letting me get 4 QFF points per $ spent as I'm using the card to pre pay for accommodation costs.

Out of curosity. Just checked some rates...

AUD$100.00
QC US$72.58
Australa Post Cash US$72.46
NAB Cash US$71.37
Travelex US$73.31

I have been using the Virgin card for the really small charges, and with that card you would get an email to say what was charged and how much you have left.

When using the Qantas Cash Card is there anyway to set up a notification email when you make a payment.

No there's no way to have instant gratification when you use the card. You get emailed when you do a topup. You can login and check but this is often many hours behind the actual charge.

They do have an app though?

Haven't used it in a while but assume it has been updated.
