I have had no issues using it anywhere, once I waited for the money to be loaded after three days.

re: Qantas Cash Card

The only problem I've had was purchasing a train ticket in the UK. The site rejected the card so after several attempts so I used another card. A few days later I had to purchase a further ticket and the card was rejected again. I then noticed I had the choice of flagging the card as a credit card or a debit card. I changed it from credit to debit...and the payment went through. No other site I've come across checked this distinction or declined the card.

Talking about loading I had to get a refund from Masters Hardware today. The clerk asked for the card I used for the purchase but I had long since closed the account (Amex Platinum!). She said any card would do so I gave the Qantas card a go -- held it to the terminal. It worked - the credit was accepted. I wonder how long it will take to appear on the account. Three days I suppose (groan).

re: Qantas Cash Card

It appears so far that my best use of the Qantas Cash card has been to collect bonus points.

The base points aren't much so I rarely use the card. I only use it for online purchases for goods I can't buy instore. I've made more bonus points out of the card than I have base points.

I got 500 bonus points through a targeted offer when I activated the card. I've just received another offer for 2500 bonus points for spending $250 on the card before a certain date. I won't have to load the full amount of the bill onto the card as I've still got funds left over from when I added the initial $250. I've got a Vic Roads bill that I'm planning to pay using the Qantas Cash card. The 2500 bonus points plus about 300 base points will be much more valuable than the points I could have earned using my regular credit card.

re: Qantas Cash Card

what I was implying above was I cannot use the card as an eftpos card
all transactions I want to use the card for incur a merchant fee (unless its anything to do with woolies or coles [groceries, alcohol, fuel, department stores etc)
I have to press credit (when pressing savings fail) and when I do that the credit card fee ('merchant fee') kicks in.

I'm guessing you have to find merchants who don't surcharge for mastercard purchases. I've made payments online without getting charged a credit card fee.

re: Qantas Cash Card

I do hope all users of this product realise how poor the value is? Conversion fees and rates are woeful when compared. Perfect for bankrupts and those who can't get a credit card however.

Qantas Cash Card [ Best Use? ]

Could you have perhaps phrased that in a way that made you seem like slightly less of an x--xx_x?

Sure, I could have said "perfect for those who can't get a credit card who wish to earn points on everyday purchases", but I don't work for QF's spin department.

If people are using this for foreign currency, they should seriously look to the market for more competitive options.

If used solely for domestic points earning I suppose some value could be had in place of a debit card.

As for calling someone that on a public forum, I think you've shown your hand there.

Which is why POst #125 nails it, the only really useful purpose is when they offer a bonus, otherwise it stays unused for me. I'm only keeping it hoping they have some more bonus offers.

I am finding (again) must press credit. Tried to have the hotel pay wave my meal but they said only if the can press credit (and add 1.5%). Couldn't even use it at foot locker rejected my card 4 times no matter how we put the charge through...so woolies and Coles and anything owed by them it is.

That's because prepaid MasterCard is a "credit button" product. The MasterCard network isn't used unless you use the credit button. If you use say a Commbank Debit MasterCard and press Savings, the charges aren't routed over the MasterCard network, but the EFTPOS network instead. QantasCash doesn't support EFTPOS so you can't use the Savings button.

re: Qantas Cash Card

Well I registered for the 2,500 points to load and use the card, and hopefully win myself a trip to NYC!

As of now, $260 loaded and today spent - no problems with any places I used the card - topping up my Go Card, a specialty shoe store and Target. $260 spent.

Given I've got a 28 degrees card and a Citibank Plus Visadebit I think that was probably the whole use this card will ever see but wasn't going to say no to 2,500 points to use my own money on stuff I wanted/needed anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions | Qantas Cash

Do I press Cheque, Savings or Credit when I make a purchase or withdraw cash using Qantas Cash?

You must press Credit when making purchases or withdrawing cash with Qantas Cash.

Pressing Credit ensures you use the MasterCard[SUP]®[/SUP] network and are covered by fraud protection programs and extended warranty insurance. Pressing Credit doesn’t mean you’re paying by credit or using a credit limit.

Does the card come with MasterCard® PayPass™?

Yes, Qantas Cash is enabled with MasterCard® PayPass, making it the perfect card for everyday purchases.
MasterCard® PayPass is the faster way to pay for purchases under AUD100 simply Tap&Go™. You won’t need to key in your card PIN or sign an authorisation.
You can also use MasterCard® PayPass for purchases over AUD 100 but you will need to authorise the transaction with your signature or card PIN.

I've never had a problem using my Qantas Card anywhere, I use it all the time as my main card (I don't have a CC to earn QFF points). Occasionally I'll get declined when my available balance is just above the purchase amount but that's covered in the FAQ, so now when I have a really low balance (~$5) I make sure I have cash or a spare debit card available to use.

re: Qantas Cash Card

I also have not had a problem at all - as with other debit cards (Visa or MC) need to press credit. :)

re: Qantas Cash Card

Are there any other debit cards that allow you to get QFF points on purchases?

re: Qantas Cash Card

Currently hurtling through Austria from Vienna to Salzburg on a very quick Railjet train. Am always amazed by the ease of European train travel and how we seem to find the prospect of such a service all too hard.

Anyway, thought I would describe my Qantas Cash card experiences on this trip which have been problematic at times. To summarise, I loaded €1000 before I left Australia ten days ago. Have had mixed success getting it to work at times, ATM use sometimes takes a couple of goes to elicit cash. The real kicker however was in Dublin where I attempted to pay the €300 hotel bill. First attempt was unsuccessful and I was given the receipt indicating the transaction was void. Second attempt was successful.

Since that transaction a week ago however, the first transaction still shows as 'pending' and blocks my access to the €300. I have sent emails to Qantas Cash asking them to correct but they refuse to look at it until I call them to discuss - not possible in the last few days or so. Their responses have been less than helpful and I am quite peeved that I am being denied access to my own money. Fortunately I would never 'put all my eggs in one basket' but this may be a cautionary tale for anyone planning to do so.

This is probably because Qantas did QCash on the cheap and outsourced it to Heritage Building Society - a tiny Qld financial institution which I doubt has the capacity to run this properly.
