Re: QF Chauffeur Drive booking up & running :)

The chauffeur drive icon seems to have disappeared from my J booking to the London for mid June. It was definitely there when I looked after getting the Qantas email a couple of days ago but can 't see it now. Not sure why?

Re: QF Chauffeur Drive booking up & running :)

Yea, and 2.5 hours prior is the closest you can select, even if you're connecting domestically first.

Just as a quick update: The limousine company just called me to ask whether I would like to be picked up later. Not sure if that's the case in other cities as well but at least here in Sydney they seem to be cluey enough to realise that you don't necessarily want to drive out to the domestic terminal 2:30 hours early.

I for now, had to toss between the chance of more time in the MEL lounge and an extra hour of sleep. Given that my total trip will be very very long, I actually told them to pick me up an hour later which is precisely what I wanted originally:D

Do you know what type of car you will be picked up in? I'm guessing a Statesman/Caprice or similar..

Re: QF Chauffeur Drive booking up & running :)

Booking icon has now returned :)

Are you able to take a guest with you if they are not flying J? Couldn't find it in terms and conditions. Also is the limit two passengers per car?

I have no idea, should have asked... I will write a detailed trip report either from Europe or once I'm back in two weeks time. Will make sure to mention all those details!

So, what is the go with Tipping on this? I know the drivers arent giving the service to Qantas for Free etc, but it seems with Chauffer Cars tips tend to me the norm, whats everyones thoughts on this and what would be a reasonable tip if its deemed appropriate?

In which country? I've never tipped a chauffeured car driver in Australia... The higher rate should include everything.

Re: QF Chauffeur Drive booking up & running :)

maybe say Per Country?

Australia, London, USA are the main for this service i assume?

Australia ive seen colleagues tipped $20 to $50 for airport transfers for say 45min trips. But never known myself, curious if anyone knows a chauffer here or has ever enquired, is it normal, rare, etc?

Interestingly you can have one car per pax. So a couple travelling can have two cars.
On that basis I wood be interested to know about the guest option too

Yes we have two in J and two in Y in our travelling party. Maybe it will not be a Qantas issue but the Chauffeur company that determines this.

How do you plan to test it

I have used both EK and EY chauffeur services and have not tipped here or in other countries. None of the drivers looked like they expected a tip and all of them provided excellent service and were very helpful.

So not even in the UAE it is expected? I would personally only tip in the US but am not quite sure about how it works in the Middle East. Certainly won't be tipping here in Australia.

No, not expected in the UAE, even after a transfer from AUH to the Dubai Hilton and not from DXB to local hotels

Re: QF Chauffeur Drive booking up & running :)

If you wish to tip a limo driver, or anyone else, you should go ahead.

There are some who won't tip anyone/anywhere. Do what you are comfortable with based on service or for any other reason.

Thanks for the clarification, that is very good to know! I have quite a long transfer coming up from DXB to my hotel in Abu Dhabi- let's say I feel like tipping, does anyone know whether they will be happy/able to deal with a tip in Euro? Wouldn't have Dirham at that point...

I don't know for sure but imagine they would have no problem accepting Euro

Travel is in mid June so was hoping to see if anyone else reports back here :) Will probably ring Qantas before we go.

why would you ONLY TIP IN THE U.S. ...you're just supplementing a population/country that lives to excess/places no value on money/survives on credit (have you seen the nations debt?)..the U.S. is the 'spoilt child' of the world that expects handouts to maintain its excesses!!! ....tipping/gratuities SHOULD BE DISCRETIONARY..NOT AN EXPECTED SUPPLEMENT!!
