Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF1016 on 28 November is operated by B738 VH-VYL and is the 1750 hours HBA up to MEL that took off at 2006, with predicted arrival 2113 hours, 128 minutes late.

Earlier, longhaul QF7 departed 62 late at 1442 from SYD with DFW arrival estimated as 1403, 63 late.

A332 VH-EBQ is on QF583, the 1955 hours SYD across to PER that took off at 2050. Arrival should be at 2238 hours, 48 minutes late.

QF465 (B738 VH-XZF, the 1900 hours SYd down to MEL in the sky at 2107) is worse as it should be at its norminated arrival gate at about 2228 tonight, 113 minutes late.

What happens to the passengers on tonight's QF9 stranded in PER? Hotel overnight then QF or SQ to SIN to connect onwards to the UK?

My other interest in today’s weather is because my daughter was on today’s arriving QF64 JNB-SYd

That flight is probably the only QF international that arrived on schedule - in fact a few minutes early.

B744 VH-OEH is operating QF6040 from KIX to MEL on Wednesday 28 November 2018. Arrival is estimated as 2313 hours, 32 early (thus breaking my 'rule' of only discussing flights that are half an hour late or more).

Was this on a Captain's Choice special or maintenance? Unusual working.

The BNE down to CBR QF1553, the 1915 hours, was airborne at 2120 tonight with arrival for B717 VH-NXI likely at 2354, 109 minutes late.

Given the requirements for punctuality (limited slots etc.) in Japan, it is unusual for QF25 to be late but B744 VH-OEG, the 2135 hours, took off at 2237 so Thursday 29 arrival is suggested as 0541, 41 late.

The crosscountry BNE - PER QF767 (A332 VH-EBM) is delayed with this 1955 hours scheduled departure becoming airborne at 2136, meaning likely arrival at 0051 on Thursday instead of 2310 tonight.

Even the ISA - BNE flight QF1783 (b717 VH-NXJ) is delayed with arrival suggested as 2222 hours, 52 minutes down.

On Thursday 29 November 2018, after Wednesday's chaos, QF416, the 0830 hours MEL - SYD has been cancelled.

This is the only displayed cancellation ex MEL prior to 1200 tomorrow.

Supposedly, no QF (or JQ flights with QF codeshare) are cancelled prior to 1200 tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if that changes in the morning.

QF1591, the 0910 hours BNE to ADL is expected to depart 55 minutes late on Thursday.

A charter from KIX-MEL replacing the usual QF26 return from HND-SYD

Did the crew operate SYD-HND-KIX before handing over to the next crew at KIX for the charter? Total flight time just over 12 hr for SYD-HND-KIX.

A few cancelllations today,
QF471 6 15 SYD-MEL
QF415 8 00 SYD-MEL
QF416 8 30 MEL-SYD

QF16 LAX-BNE (VH-ZNC) departed at 12 50, 90 late, recently landed at 8 11, 56 tardy.
QF1562 BNE-CBR (VH-NXI) did not leave until 8 50, 120 late. Arrival suggested for 9 10, 95 behind schedule.

Also on Thursday 29 November, QF419 (0900 hours SYD - MEL, B738 VH-VXP) took off at 0951. While arrival is nominally 11108 hours, 33 minutes late, there is quite a deal of holding being imposed by ATC in the usual Mt Buller, Vic location so the delay may become a little more.

Interestingly and a smart idea that QF recruited VH-OEB to operate QF431/442 SYD-MEL-SYD yesterday in the afternoon.
There is a bit of "reserve" in the 747 fleet currently. So its good that its been put to good use.
That would have added a lot of seats and i hope it was full

If you read back, Silvia brought that to our attention yesterday. She (and I) reported it ran late. Unfortunately it wouldn't have been able to convey the thousands affected by flight cancellations on the route but agree it was a good move.

I would assume so, what do you think @Melburnian1 ?

Also, speaking of good old VH-OEB, QF3 SYD-HNL departed at 22 32, 187 late, and arrived to HNL at 10 59, 179 late.
This has impacted QF4 HNL-SYD service, with take off time of 13 31, 211 late. Arrival is expected at 20 11, 182 behind schedule.

Can a 747 use the Syd T3 and MEL domestic terminal gates?

Yesterday, QF431 used gate 10 at SYD and gate 23 (the latter one of the 'newer' ones about a decade old) in MEL, so the answer is 'yes' at least for some gates. The B744s have been used in past years for MEL - PER on occasion and much more recently in 2018 for SYD - PER. I don't believe they can use every gate at each airport but from memory may also be able to use gates like 12 in MEL - the extremity of the oldest part of the QF terminal.

Continuing with Thursday 29 November, QF516 (B738 VH-VXR, the 1000 hours SYD - BNE) was airborne at 1053 so arrival has become 1103 hours, 33 minutes late.

QF1780 has B717 VH-NXJ and took off at 1009 for this BNE up to ISA flight, 69 minutes after scheduled departure. Destination arrival looks to be 1236 hours, 51 minutes late.

QF23 (1030 hours SYD - BKK that is frequently delayed) had not departed by 1115 hours on Thursday 29 November, so arrival will be 1650, 40 minutes tardy, or later.

B738 VH-VZH on QF587 (1000 hours ADL across to PER that took off at 1041 hours) should arrive at 1121 hours, 31 minutes late.

The early morning QF574, the 0545 hours from PER to SYD was airborne at 0715 with A332 VH-EBF. Arrival should be at 1357, 62 late. Perhaps the crew needed sufficient rest given yesterday's terrible punctuality?

QF702 (1005 hours MEL up to CNS, B738 VH-VXS) took off at 1032, only about 15 minutes late but arrival is delayed until 1255, half an hour behind.

The 1100 hours MEL - SYD, QF426, was airborne at 1155 so VH-XZA should be at its destination gate at 1259 hours, 34 minutes late.

UPDATE: QF23 departed at 1135, with BKK arrival suggested as 1658 hours, 48 minutes late. This will delay tonight's QF24 back to SYD.

In further on Thursday 29 November, QF863, the scheduled 0915 hours OOL down to SYD was in the sky at 117. Expected arrival for B738 VH-VYC is 1325, an even 100 minutes tardy.

The overnight CGK - SYD QF42 arrived this morning at 1009 instead of the timetabled 0615 hours.

The 1130 hours SYD - SIN, QF81, pushed back at 1244. Expected arrival is 1746 late this afternoon SIN time, 61 minutes behind schedule.

B738 VH-VXE is operating QF6114 that may be a positioning flight, devoid of passengers, from ADL to SYD, having taken off at 1124 with arrival likely at about 1328. If so, it wil be because of the extremely wet weather in SYD yesterday and consequent huge number of cancellations and delays.

QF616, the 1210 hours lunchtime MEL up to BNE took off at 1316. Arrival should be at 1413 hours, 53 late for VH-VXB.

Southbound QF855, the CBR down to MEL has VH-XZP and is arriving at about 1400 hours, 50 late.

Also on Thursday 29 November, B717 VH-YQT on QF1584, the 1235 hours lunchtime HBA up to SYD that was in the sky at 1328 looks to be arriving at 1515 mid afternoon, 45 late.

QF436 (1330 MEL - SYD, A332 VH-EBC) was in teh sky at 1417, meaning delayed arrival at 1528, 33 late.

Following its special KIX - MEL yesterday, ferry flight - empty - QF6014 (B744 VH-OEH) is operating from MEL to SYD with arrival suggested as 1450 hours. From the allocated gate number, this may be forming QF73 (1755 hours SYD - SFO).

QF926 (1340 hours SYD to CNS that took off at 1432) should arrive at 1622, 42 minutes late.

The mid afternoon 1550 hours SYD - HKG, QF117, is expected to push back 50 minutes late.

QF577, the 1410 hours Thursday 29 November 2018 SYD - PER did not take off until 1521. A332 VH-EBF should be at its destination gate at roughly 1704 this afternoon local time, 59 minutes behind the schedule.

Can a 747 use the Syd T3 and MEL domestic terminal gates?
Every time I've seen a 747 at SYD T3, it's been parked at the outer most gates of the terminal towards the QF jetbase. Gates 10 and 11 I assume.

Never seen a 747 at MEL T1, but it looks like gates 23 and 3 and maybe 21, 25 and 11 could handle them.

QF452 on Thursday 29 November 2018, the 1700 hours from MEL up to SYD (A333 VH-QPG) was airborne at 1800. Arrival is predicted as 1916 hours, 51 minutes tardy. After arriving in PER this morning local time on QF772 15 minutes late, this aircraft was delayed departing on QF775, arriving MEL 42 late at 1642. Hence the delay. Not sure why this refurbished to international standards aircraft isn't being used on a QFi flight today.

A332 VH-EBR on southbound SYD - MEL QF449, the 1630 hours, was in the sky at 1733. Arrival is predicted to be 1848 hours, 43 minutes behind schedule but a few other aircraft ahead in the queue are holding above the usual Mt Buller (Vic) position so the delay may become somewhat longer.

QF445 southbound is also delayed with B738 VH-VYH likely to arrive at 1947, 42 minutes behind schedule.

Short hop SYD - CBR QF1517, the 1655 hours that did not take off until 1839 (B717 VH-NXR) should be on the ramp at around 1912 hours, 82 minutes past the schedule.

The CBR up to BNE QF1550 has B717 VH-NXI and is arriving at a projected 1930 tonight (Queensland time), 65 late.

As the SYD - AKL QF143 on 29 November was delayed, the return roster's QF126 (1700 AKL to BNE) that has A332 VH-EBB is also running late, with arrival estimated at 1850, 70 minutes late. This is the sixth consecutive flight that EBB has been significantly delayed.

B738 VH-XZN on QF459 (1800 hours peak time SYd down to MEL) was pointing skywards at 1857, so arrival looks to be 2019, 44 late.
