Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Due to the chaos with the extremely wet Sydney day yesterday, QF27 was delayed in its departure. This means QF28 is arriving in SYD (ex SCL) at around 1935 hours tonight, 115 minutes late. Aircraft is B744 VH-OJU. This aircraft should form QF25, the 2135 hours SYD - HND in not much more than minimum turnaround.

In further on Thursday 29 November 2018, QF9, the flagship 1705 hours MEL to PEr and more importantly to LHR is expected to depart at 1945 hours, 140 minutes tardy. The intermediate stop is predicted as 2045 to 2145 - optimistic, since it generally appears to require 90 minutes not an hour - with LHR Friday 30 arrival forecast as 0715 hours, 130 minutes late.

Searching posts above shows how AFF member comoman relayed the Monday night travails of this flight but it arrived in LHR just before 0700, so was not as delayed as tonight's is predicted to be.

Some including AFFer Quickstatus have commented on the operational challenges facing the northbound QF9 ex PER during the Pommy winter. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. As always, reports from travellers should there be any folk offloaded or diversions would be welcome.

QF479 (B738 VH-VZB, the 1845 hours SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1932) is predicted to arrive at 2051 tonight, 31 minutes late.

QF1551, the 1530 hours BNE - CBR (B717 VH-NXE) did not point skywards until 1739, so expected arrival is 2018, 118 late. A few posts above noted above how opposite direction QF1550 was also delayed.

UPDATE: QF9 departed MEL at 2018 with the PER stop altered to a predicted 2110 to 2235 (more realistic than above!) and consequent LHR Friday arrival at 0805, 170 minutes tardy.

Continuing the recent "tradition" of late running on the short distance CBR to SYD route, 29 November 2018's QF1522 (B717 VH-NXR, the scheduled 1825 hours) was in the sky at 1949 with arrival likely at 2023, 63 late.

Depending on one's origin in CBR and destination in SYD, it can almost be as quick to drive, go by scenic although slow NSWTrainLInk train or cramped bus.

On the evening of 29 November 2018, QF635 (1810 hours BNE - MEL, B738 VH-VXB) took off at 1920 so arrival is set for 2223 hours, 53 minutes behind schedule.

QF497, the last of the 29 November night at a scheduled 2205 hours from SYD to MEL has A332 VH-EBC but by 2303 had yet to take off.

It had arrived as QF460 (ex MEL) at 2012, 17 late so obviously some problem in SYD.

UPDATE: QF497 must have been granted a curfew exemption as it was airborne at 2306 hours.

Friday 30 November 2018 sees QF93, the 1055 hours longhaul to LAX altered to depart MEL an hour behind.

QF424 (1030 hours MEL - SYD) is estimated to depart half an hour tardy.

Following @Melburnian1 info re QF93, it did not depart until 12 50, 115 late. Arrival is predicted for 7 49, 84 tardy.
QF762 PER-MEL 8 00 service (VH-VZH) diverted back to Perth this morning.
Also, on QF 424 MEL-10 30 service that @Melburnian1 also advised, it did not take off until 11 53, 83 late. Arrival was at 12 55, 60 behind schedule. VH-XZA.

Also on Friday 30 November 2018, QF129 (1055 hours midmorning SYD - PVG) departed at 1126 with arrival suggested as 1910 tonight, 40 minutes behind schedule.

QF97 (0930 hours day flight from BNE to HKG) is generally on time but on 30 November, it pushed back at 1026 so arrival is suggested as 1710, 40 minutes behind the timetable.

Despite its relatively lengthy morning layover after arrival of QF94, QF35 (1220 hours SYD - SIN) has been running late quite a lot. Today, pushback was at 1252 with arrival suggested as 1737, 32 minutes late.

QF19 (1225 hours SYD - MNL) departed 35 late with arrival estimated as half an hour late at 1900 tonight.

The 1250 hours lunchtime B744 from SYD to SCL has just departed at 14007. A 65 minute tardy arrival same day at 1215 is estimated.

Continuing with 30 November, QF620 (1410 hours afternoon from MEL up to BNE that was in the air at 1508) should arrive at 1611, 51 late with B738 VH-VXS.

Empty - 'ferry' - flight QF6114 (A332 VH-EBA) is operating, having taken off from MEL at 1557. FR24 claims it is bound for CBR but its flight path suggests SYD. I assume this is a positioning flight: does Qantas lack sufficient available cabin crew to operate this carrying passengers, given logic might suggest there could still be a backlog to be carried given Wednesday 28's huge number of flight cancellations due to the huge amount of Sydney rain?

Later on Friday 30 November, QF719, the evening 1900 hours from CBR across to PER was in the sky at 1936. Arrival should be at 2109, 34 late for B738 VH-VZH.

The 2030 hours mid evening SYD to MEL (VH-VXT, QF491) took off exactly an hour later, so arrival has become a suggested 2235, half an hour tardy.

QF499 on the same southbound route is similar, as this 2100 hours flight was pointing skywards at 2213. VH-VYJ should arrive at 2334, 59 late.

The 1905 hours BNE down to SYD did not take off until 2040 with B738 VH-VZT as QF555. Arrival is estimated at 2255, so with landing at about 2250, not much leeway prior to Sydney airport curfew at 2300 (assessed as landings or takeoffs, not gate arrival or departure).

The LAX - SYD QF12 (A388 VH-OQF) was overflying SYD at 0855 so arrival should be at about 0907 hours, 32 late on Saturday 1 December 2018.

QF29 (0945 hours MEL up to HKG) on Saturday is displaying as delayed until 1015 but this time has passed.

Also on 1 December, QF35 - becoming quite a regular late runner - departed MEL (A388 VH-OQI) at 1252, 32 late with Lion City arrival expected at 1747, 42 late.

Earlier, the SYD - BKK QF23 - notorious for not arriving within 15 minutes of the schedule - pushed back at 1102, also 32 behind with arrival at gate in the Thai capital suggested as 1540, half an hour behind. This should not delay redeye QF24 much if at all.

QF41 from SYD to CGK usually has good timekeeping but on Saturday 1 December 2018, this scheduled 1350 hours flight departed at 1631 with A332 VH-EBC. Arrival at the estimated 2025 hours will be 175 minutes late, delaying the redeye QF42 back down to SYD.

EBC looks to have substituted for a failed colleague as it was on QF434 that arrived SYD (ex MEL) six minutes early at 1419. Obviously it isn't normal to roster a plane due in at 1425 on another flight timetabled to commence pushing back at 1350.

Sunday 2nd of December sees QF648 PER-MEL 23 25 service depart at 1 57, 152 behind. Arrival is suggested at 8 11, 131 tardy.
QF16 LAX-BNE 23 20, left at 00 11, 51 behind. Arrival is scheduled for 7 48, 33 late.

Also on Sunday 2 December, QF94, the LAX - MEL with A388 VH-OQA is arriving at about 1043, 53 minutes late, making it difficult for QF35, the 1220 hours to SIN to depart on time. The QF website suggests that the latter will commence pushing back at 1245, 25 late.

The 1055 hours midmorning SYD - PVG, QF129 commenced pushback at 1131 so a 1911 hours, 41 late arrival is anticipated.

As at 1240 hours on Sunday 2 December 2018, most aircraft seem to be using runway 25 in Sydney to land from the east or take off to the west over Sydenham raiilway station so if that continues, delays are likely this afternoon as the Sunday peak comes upon us.

QF63, however, is using 34L with B744 VH-OEE on this 1135 hours longhaul SYD - JNB departing at 1217 but taking a long time to take off at 1253.

QF2225, the 1155 hours late morning SYD - WGA was by 1256 not even queueing for takeoff, so it will be at least an hour late arriving in the Riverina. Q400 VH-QOW is the aircraft.

The 1250 hours B744 from SYD to SCL, QF27 is delayed until at least 1400. This makes it likely that QF28 ex Santiago de Chile on Sunday will also be tardy.
