Qantas double SCs

My first quarter year with double status credits ends today and it leaves me just 5 SCs short for renewal of Platinum. I plan and book ahead so 3 return flights missed qualifying. That said I am really happy to have had the 3 month offer and I flew more.

Could be wrong, but I think once a booking reference number is generated, everything relates to the date it was generated.

Why not phone tomorrow in the hours that theWP number is likely to be manned by the premium desk & ask them as well? Be sure to get their name if they tell you it'll be right.

I did talk to QF Rez last night but they said I really needed to discuss with the QFF program people ~ of course they are now closed until Monday, after the promo ends. The 'consensus' of opinion among the rez agents last night was that 'book' probably meant 'book and ticket', as they felt the QFF folks didn't really understand how airlines do things...

I might try talking to the Premium desk today.

Any further opinions on the meaning of 'book' in this context?

I thought that book now pay later does not secure the fare? it is still subject to any 'fare adjustments' as they put it... so if the price goes up, you have to pay the increase when you make final payment. I think book now pay later just secures you a seat on the plane, in that fare bucket.

I think you are right ~ I am just trying to secure the fare bucket and not too concerned about adjustments between now and when I get the client go-ahead for the trip.

Advertising wise, I think most ordinary people would take 'book' to also equal 'ticket' - because these days the two pretty much go hand-in-hand, you select flights then the next stage is to pay for those.

There are exceptions to this - the 'book now pay later' option, and those going through a travel agent where you can book and final payment may be required some time down the track.

'book' is not defined in the FF TandCs. So where else might you look? Well... the very nature of 'book now pay later' implies that you have made a 'booknig'. On the face of it, if QF uses the word 'book' anywhere else, it would be hard for them to argue that it also means ticket, as they offer this other alternative where you can indeed book but not ticket.

If the promo means 'book and ticket' then it could be sloppy wording that should be tightened. It could easily have said 'ticket and fly' during the promo period if that's what they really meant... rather than just relying on what the ordinary person might deem 'book' to mean (which as we started out with, generally means ticket since the two, in 99% of cases where people use a website, go hand-in-hand)

worth a fight? yup if they don't give it to you 9after you've double checked the wording of the offer ) Is QF likely to give it to you without a fight? I would say yes as they are generally pretty good when it comes to sorting these things out, and are 99.9% of the time very fair and reasonable.

That's the way it works, but you should also be aware that prices for fare buckets can change drastically as well. Say, if you are holding on to a class V seat, and then they decide to double the price of class V fares. In this case, your fares would also double (ignoring the effects on taxes and surcharges).

same here, flew on 26/06, BNE-xSYD-ASP return on a JASA ticket, two days later DSC post and I am WP for the first time

They are wrong - JASA's definitely qualify for double SC's - I've had a number of the bonus SC's appear on my statement - takes 2 or 3 days typically after the initial flight SC's are posted for them to show up

and on another note I guess we should all raise our glasses on the stroke of midnight as this particular round of double SC offers comes to an end - although some will still benefit from August International flights

May they return again soon for the chosen few

In fourteen years being a QFF, most of them spent at either gold or silver, i imagine I'd have been suitable for double SC promotions

I've only been offered them twice, the recent Apr-Jun 2012 promotion. And once before maybe in 2008? bizarrely only for a single month.

If I booked a J in August BNE-AKL. Before June 30, then changed the dates ( still flying in August) making that change wouldn't stuff my double status credit offer would it?

one would think not - given QF tried to argue travel vouchers bought in December (but used in April or whatever it was) still counted as a 'booking' in december since that is when a PNR was created. So I'm guessing they go by the creation of the PNR?

Received a letter today with a boarding pass type insert offering double status credits for 3 months from 1st August to help me get back to silver. I fell back to bronze on 30th June. It has to be on Qantas or jetstar flights.

The creation of the PNR is definitely the trigger date.

Yes I had three JASAs booked before my 3 month doubler was offered so they did not count even though it was inside the flying period. It really didn't matter as the total SCs earnt in that first quarter ended at 1,195 and unless I wanted to get to 2,400 or 3,600 SCs this year for extra benefits I would remain Platinum.

I don't believe so. It would be the ticketed date. PNR's can be created without a ticket being issued (that's how TA's do it, remember ).
