Qantas / Emirates tie up (Partnership inc. Codeshare, Status)

Could one driver for this be that QF and EK are actively not colluding on price? As such QF may not know the price of every flight and fare bucket on EK and are pricing what they think it should be?

Sounds as plausible as anything else I have heard. If this is in fact the case - boy are the QF revenue management guys in for a shock on the 1st May!

It seems my earlier point is being reiterated. My understanding is that QF don't want to fly DXB-London/EU, thus the tie-up benefits with Emirates. Yes, sometimes you'll be on QF all the way to London, but I doubt it'll be more than 50%.... and that's why I highlighted the PE issue. It won't be pretty!

Just booked a EK (QF Codeshare on EK metal) Itinerary from MEL to MUC and am wondering if its possible to use the QF booking reference to access the MMB site on EK?

Also is it possible to enter a skywards number on the QF site, can't seem to find it there.

Thanks

Doubt it as I believe Emirates use Sabre, but why don't you try?

Just booked my trip last night and it seems as if you can do seat selection on EK sectors through Qantas, though I did find I had to do it a couple of times for the EK sectors to 'stick'.

Welcome to AFF :D

I suggest you look your booking up on Check My Trip and look for an emirates reference near the top.

If you can't see that, then call EK armed with your booking details and ask.

1) Yes, enter surname and QF booking number and you will see your booking there with a new EK booking number

2) Once inside, look at right hand options; Enter frequent flyer number there (QF or EK)

I had done it.

I think you are mis-informed. There is a snowball's chance in hell that QF would pull out of LHR. It would be the end of the airline as we know it.

A global airline without any entry point into Europe becomes a regional carrier.

The traffic on this route is quite healthy.

In addition, the EK DXB-LHR don't connect very well with the QF flights. Another beef I have with this tie-up.

As there are no other QF flights going to DXB other than LHR bound, I don't understand the point you are trying to make.

Where exactly does the EK booking number apear? I certainly don't see it when I look at my booking on Qantas.com or check my trip (including classic check my trip). When you saw it was your EK flight booked as EK or QF, because mine are QF flight numbers all on a 081 ticket.

No need to do this to find your EK booking number. Just stick your PNR and last name into Emirates' site and it will pull up your booking there - even on an 081 stock ticket with all QF flight numbers :)

Famous last words there. Never say never, but it it possible and unlikely that QF would stop flying their own metal to LHR entirely.

OK

I think a lot of people agree with that. In addition the people looking to fly PE to Europe are essentially forced to fly to LHR on QF metal or pay PE prices for Y class product - and that is the issue some have. In addition to that it seems the PE and possibly J prices on code share are completely out of the ball park. Whether this is by accident or poor implementation by EK or QF remains to be seen. But the effect on the QF web site is essentially a big flashing sign saying "Do not fly with us."

As there are no other QF flights going to DXB other than LHR bound, I don't understand the point you are trying to make.

I think maybe some peoples point was that LHR does not equal Europe. LHR is merely one airport in the whole continent of Europe (and an expensive, slot limited, slow and inconvenient one at that) - hence QF's intention to tie up with EK in some way so that QF passengers could fly maybe PE or J class 1 stop from SYD/MEL to other places in europe by stopping in DXB. A laudable objective but not really delivered yet.

If they don't take bookings until it is all signed off, then that leaves a black hole of future earnings for up to 12 months.

i'm looking to book SYD-LHR in July travelling PE on QF, and i'm quite underwhelmed by the message telling me my flight from Dubai will be in Y with no discernible reduction in price for that leg. PE all the way on QF is quite pricey.

I started venturing out to other OW airlines. I can get PE on BA at a better price, and can get a J fare on CX or MH at less than PE on QF and a little more than PE on BA.

Do I still get my status credits on CX and MH? I'm QF Gold and this flight should get me to platinum.

cheers

Yep - SCs on CX and MH as MH just joined oneworld. Personally if the option is PE/whY on QF/EK vs J on CX - it is a no brainer...

Yes it is a "no brainer" for everyone in the world except for maybe QF management whom will be wondering "Where on earth have all our J and PE passengers gone?"

Eh, they'll wise up soon enough. Can't have W yields just drop to zero and no one notices - that's worth at least one executive level job to take the sword.

Obviously there's still someone out there who's buying up those fares. Obviously, they can't possibly be on AFF.
