Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

After mainly using Coles/Flybuys, we are about to switch to EDR (currently use EDR but not as much as ColesFB). After putting all our groceries, fuel etc through FB for a couple of years I logged in to find out I could be lavished with a $20 gift voucher with the points I have accumulated. WTF??? What a waste of time

Meantime, with just the occasional EDR purchase over the same period, have accumulated almost 5000FF points.

Is there really such a huge discrepancy between these programs or am I missing something?

I could never really see the point of fly buys...

To earn a $50 gift card on flybuys with a regular shop at coles, you need to spend around $15,625 (6,250 points @ $2.50/pt)

While that sort of spend divided equally over say 52 weeks on the EDR (Woolworths) works out to something like this (($15,625/52=$300)-$30 for the minimum spend) = 270 points per week (or 14,040 points per year = which is more than enough to purchase $75 worth of gift cards in the Qantas store with 3,040 points spare for the next redemption...

Both programs have similar bonuses to speed up the earn....

Unless you really like Coles, or don't have a Coles store near you, why would you participate in the Flybuy's loyalty program...?

When you live or work in Tasmania.

I never joined EDR, Qantas joined me up automatically and sent me out a card. So I'm guessing they were targeting elite members that had not joined themselves?

They’ve been doing that for a while, early days of this thread shows that.

You can order a new card on the web site, and they'll send you out a full size card with your name on it, and two cards for your keychain.

Which is what I alluded to above :p

Because it's better than getting nothing. :D

I've copied your post there.

No emails for a few weeks now. :( I try to spend there at least a couple of times a week so they know I am still alive.

Well we should see new offers tomorrow, unless the server is in QLD/NT and thus on holidays, hopefully the Woolies liquor offer will be repeated from this week, because this week I will be in a location that has a store and no BWS, which means I will get a BWS offer!

.... hopefully the Woolies liquor offer will be repeated from this week...

I'm hoping the Woolies liquor offer isn't repeated. I haven't activated the offer for the last couple of weeks in an effort to try and get them to offer me something else .... anything else would do :p

What I mean is that those 5000 points accumulated with only the occasional purchase from woolies - whereas most of our groceries are bought from Coles. Also I forgot to mention that we buy everything at coles using the Source mastercard which gives additional points.

Depending on your spending approach, you may well see higher points accrual with EDR. It's one point per dollar - above the $30 threshold - whereas FB has no threshold, but is a constant 2 points for 5 dollars. Thus, if you always spent around $30 a visit, you'd have more points with flybuys, i.e. 6, against nil with EDR. But if you always spent around $100 a visit, you'd be getting 70 a visit with EDR vs 40 with FB. From the sounds of it, you're at the higher spending end (at least with your EDR spend vs Coles).

Have been a member since it has started and only have got 2 offers this year, one for easter time for bonus 100pts (or something) for $x spend on easter eggs and $50 on meat or similar.
I want more!

only 5 hours until this weeks bonus offers...yay...!

I predict a Booze one for me and a "buy three ... ... ..." offer for Mrs Shintaro :p

I predict they’ll be unhappy to give me anything since I earned 904 points on fuel last week… but I also haven’t shopped in 2 weeks, so will see if they think there’s a problem soon enough.

Got the usual. Surprised as l didn't shop at WW during the week.

I swear QF must tell WOW "Quick! drewbles is overseas so send him an offer he can't redeem!"

Second Last offer I got was the day I arrived in BRU.

Latest offer I got was the day after I arrived into LHR (and ran out on the 1st of May).

I think WOW don't like me anymore (and I even gave my card a good 6 week break from being scanned at the check-out).

As predicted I got a BWS offer while I am in the land of non BWS stores (NT), luckily its an easy one to pass up, spend $25 for 125 points on wine.

Got my favourite one today - BWS - spend $30 or more and get 500 FF points.

"Offer can be used multiple times" until end of week.

Looks like a few trips to (higher-end) BWS stores are on the cards this week. Just have to make sure I don't spend more than $31 each time and/or only buy one bottle

Nothing for me again!

It would be interesting to know why are they giving away that many points so easily?

BWS has one of the highest margins of all the woolworths divisions, so I suppose they can afford to give it away.

Well I was wrong with my prediction, however we still got offers this week, which is more than some people are getting around here...

I am 99% sure these offers keep flowing through as long as you generally activate and use them, there was a brief period where I did not take up their offers and the inbox was quiet for a week or two. I suggest that if you struggle to receive offers, then the next time you get one then you use it, this should trigger the system to "retain" your loyalty...

My 2¢ worth...:p
