Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

Does anyone know if purchases from Dan Murphy's will qualify for points? They are a woolworths liquor business but I assume when they are talking about "woolworths supermarket and liquor customers" they are refering to the co-located liquor stores.

Also, I spoke with one of the staff at Woollies about purchasing beer with groceries (ie, you won't get many points for a $40 carton of beer); she said they can ring it up with your groceries, you just have to pick it up from the liquor counter. Sounds a little too complicated. I wonder if enough people do this they will change the rules to work out a daily or weekly spend?

Looks like you will just have to buy more alcohol than previously :!:

Dan Murphys were not mentioned in the media release.

Woolies staff do not receive staff discounts at Dan's and Dan's are not fully owned by Woolies in some states. So I think at this stage it is unlikely.

Seems like the way to go, if you know what you want that is. In a Big W recently I asked them to transfer a purchase from the electronic department to the front so I could purchase it with other items to get a fuel voucher, it was no problem whatsoever.

Generally when I go to a liquor store though I tend to browse and come out with things I didn't know I wanted.

It's actually not complicated at all; you "Hold" one transaction without paying and go to the other area to make your purchases. You get a "hold" docket. They get "added" to you held purchase and you pay in the one hit.

So do they let you take the beer once it's held and then you pay for your groceries? Or do you hold the transaction, buy your groceries, pay for it, and then pick up the beer?

If it's the former, how do they make sure you pay for the beer?

Example:
  • shop for groceries and put them through a check-out,
  • ask the check-out clerk to hold the sale.
  • You leave the groceries at that check-out
  • take the "hold docket" to the liquor area and make your purchase
  • paying for it after showing the "hold" docket.
  • They will all be processed on the one sales tranaaction.
  • You then proceed with you Liquor back to the original register,
  • show your sale docket
  • depart with the goods and one larger transaction.

Sounds like it would be easier to do it the other way round (ie, put the beer on hold). Saves leaving the trolley at the counter.

It's a lot easier than it reads.

Of course how best to do it depends upon variables like the store layout and the actual/relative volumes/weight of groceries/liquor your are intending to purchase.

In any case, there's up to another 30 QFF points ... :D

I did it today. Try to use the checkout closest to the liquor department, then your checkout check can just walk in with you and your trolley and tell the liquor assistant you have a saved transaction you need to pay for with your liquor.

Didn't know of this "hold" feature but makes perfect sense, thanks for the heads up.

Yes the woolies here is about 100 meters from the bottle shop with about 5 shops in between, I can't see how it could work.

I heard that the everyday rewards card only lets you earn miles after the first AU $ 30.00 spent.....:-|

Yes, and a large number of posts in this thread are devoted to that very issue, and is the reason for the most recent posts discussing ways of combining grocery and liquor purchases into a single transaction.

On the 500 points joining bonus

  • As mentioned earlier my 3 daughters were sent a brochure offering 500 points each if they lnked heir QF accounts to their Everyday accounts by June 22
  • My wife and I did not receive.
  • Unfortunately I could not find the cards (I had mainly just taken them out for them to gain extra 10 cent fuel vouchers at the time)
  • So I rang up and asked what to do and was advised to just take out new Everyday Cards and that if linked they would gain the 500 points.
  • I then asked if this applied to everyone (due to my wife and I) and was told yes that all linked accounts by Jun 22 would receive the 500 bonus.;)

Awesome! 500 points tomorrow for me :D

I'll probably not make more than that on my shopping for the rest of this year.

I'm a little confused by the 500 bonus points

Do these only apply to existing QFF members who link Everyday rewards, or do they also apply to exisiting everyday rewards customers who have jpoined QFF for free through the everyday rewards site (and therefore 'linked' their accounts that way)???

I believe from the wording it would apply to both, though we'll find out soon wont we.

hi guys,

i'm a bit confused.

i read somewhere (but i can't remember where, damn!) that you might earn different levels of points if you join FF through different programs. i *think* that is in the QFF terms and conditions.

so if i have already booked a Qantas flight and am yet to earn points for it (I haven't joined QFF yet), then will I earn the same number of points for the flight if I join through the EDR program as I would if I joined the normal (paying) way?

ie, is this program a ripper of a bargain for me, seeing as i was going to have to join QFF anyway?

thanks for your help!

There are no different levels of point earning relating to how you join QFF.

For those who previously considered joining QFF but baulked at the $82.50 fee this is a great way to avoid that fee.
