Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

It's actually amazing how quickly points can add up just by doing weekly grocery shopping!

A few things I'm sure not too sure about though:

1) 500 bonus points - some have mentioned this, does this only apply to existing QFF members who joined everyday rewards or does it apply the pther way around (everyday rewards member joined QFF through the new scheme?)

2) Has anyone who is new to the scheme (like me) received thier QFF card yet?

3) I was reading further into the media release - with the rate, it seems as though the 1 point for each $1 over $30 applies to all the businesses - however, is it only me who thinks that this wouldn't be very good value at Caltex-Woolworths? My car only takes about $40 to fill, and this lasts 2 weeks, so I'm only getting an extra 10 points from shopping at Caltex-Woolworths, with the average of 5 points a week. Does anyone else consider the potential rate unreasonable? PS Yes I understand others spend around $50 a week, but when compared to a grocery basket, people can't necessarily buy in bulk for weeks (earning many points), as with a car, once it's full, it can't take any more fuel

I don't believe you earn any points for purchasing petrol!

A quote from the media release which has already been posted on this thread.

The offer will be available to Woolworths Supermarket and Liquor customers from 22 June and to BIG W
customers from 16 July. Offers will also be launched in coming months for customers of BWS, ****Smith and participating Caltex Woolworths co-branded fuel outlets.

No one knows how the petrol offer will work ONCE it starts.

However as your earn petrol vouchers only at the Supermarket I would imagine that at all other stores including the petrol stations that you will earn points for every $1 with no minimum spend to be exceeded.

More from the media release. Points 2 & 3, in context with the following para indicates EDR will work the same with all outlets.

• Launches to customers 22 June
One point for every $1 above $30 spend
• Points can be earned across a broad retail base

SYDNEY, 1 June 2009: Woolworths and Qantas today announced details of their unique loyalty
partnership which allows customers to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points as part of their everyday
shopping.
Woolworths customers who link their Everyday Rewards and Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts will earn
one Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every dollar spent above $30 in one transaction, when they present
their Everyday Rewards card.

The offer will be available to Woolworths Supermarket and Liquor customers from 22 June and to BIG W
customers from 16 July. Offers will also be launched in coming months for customers of BWS, ****
Smith and participating Caltex Woolworths co-branded fuel outlets.

That is a full outline of the details but I draw your attention to the bits I highlighted at the end. You've highlighted the details of one offer, the first offer, for use at supermarkets. Note it says Offers will also be launched later. That suggests the later offers will be different to the current offer.

If a limited size fuel tank is a problem, once the fuel offer is released, I would suggest buying yourself some Jerry cans so you can get extra. That is what I do when I want to get more fuel that the 60 litres my car takes.

The premise of EDR is a fuel discount at Caltex Woolworths co-branded fuel outlets. It will never be a $1= 1 point to QF without a $30 minimum spend to obtain the fuel discount.

Qantas points don't fit that premise, clearly the EDR program is changing.

We'll see what happens in time. Regardless of what they end up doing, there is nothing in what you posted to support your opinion that the fuel offer will be the same as the supermarket offer. By the same token, my opinion is only supported by implication.

I rocked up to my local Woolies the other day, to buy a packet of cigarettes.

Produced my EDR card to have swiped ( for entry into the weekly $1,000. draw ), and was told, new rule is, all tobacco products are not eligable for any points or crediting towards QFF points, or any other promotions.

That's a new one out recently.

While you cannot earn QFF points on tobacco product I believe you still can earn 4¢ fuels vouchers on purchases totalling more than $30 including tobacco product (in some states/territories).
To Qualify for a Fuel Saving Offer:

To receive a saving off the standard purchase price of fuel at CALTEX WOOLWORTHS/SAFEWAY co-branded fuel outlets, you must spend at least the qualifying amount (as advertised from time to time) in one transaction at a participating Woolworths/Safeway Supermarket or BIG W Store and swipe your Card at the checkout before paying for your purchases. Your Fuel Saving Offer will then be electronically loaded onto your Card. There are some limits and exclusions which we advertise on our Website. The Fuel Saving Offer excludes, for example, purchases of Wish Gift Cards, online purchases and purchases made at BIG W optical stores. It also excludes purchases of smoking and tobacco products in some States and Territories.

I would have insisted the card be scanned anyway and let the system decide.

I usually shop around $30-$50 per visit. After quickly thinking, I won't be changing any habits because it is more beneficial for me to earn the discount fuel dockets.

Let's say shop $100 once, earn 70 points = say 70c-100c value

Split $100 into 3 shops, earn 3 x 4c discount vouchers = say 3 x 4c x 50L = $6.00 value

Its law from 1st July for NSW and includes discounts being earned for use on other purchases:

Retailer Factsheet - Shopper Loyalty Programs - NSW Department of Health

The ACT brought in similar provisions on the 28th Feb this year, SA in Oct 07, while QLD has had it banned since 2006.

That only works if you actually use the fuel discount dockets. I seem to collect more fuel dockets than I could possibly use.

That's what I was thinking. If you go through that much fuel in a week then it's okay, but I tend to fill up every week or two, so it's not as beneficial having fuel vouchers expire.

My wife and I each received the letter offering 500 QFF points. We had already provided email addresses on registering.
Could be another case of the "early bird gets the worm". I didn't sign up to Everyday Rewards until 25 June and as far as I am aware I have not received this offer.

No John I have had an everday rewards card since they were released-no offer to me or mrsdrron.
Another area where there are 2 kinds of people-those that receive targeted offers and those who dont.7th year of HH diamond and not one targeted offer.Only SPG has targeted me(apart from those who wish me harm:rolleyes:)with offers that are decent.

On the other hand, the early worm gets eaten by the bird. So it just depends on your perspective...

I'm no early bird, nor am I a worm for that matter.

However, we did register cards late last year as soon as it was announced QF and Woollies were to form a partnership.

Before that the 4¢ dockets sufficed; I saw little need to register a card

Now our local supermarket is indeed a Safeway and we had both regularly been using our everyday cards since January.

According to the web site, our statistics in regard to fuel discounts in the last 6 months are:

  • 6 Redeemed
  • 34 Expired (The ethanol fuel in the independent across the road from the Caltex is often cheaper)
  • 11 Current.
So I postulate our usage generated the (now banked) 500 bonus points each.
