We got one for spending $30 on Easter eggs at Woolies to get 14c off fuel! Or spend $20 and get 10c off. What a steal!

(Embarrassingly enough, Mrs Warks spent that much anyway - an enormous horde of nieces and nephews as well as our tribe to look after)

...and I got buy 2 cartons Miller Chill for $70, which I assume was just a standard BWS offer this week.

I don’t think I want beer that tastes like limes and salt :p

I wonder how the points or fuel offer works, as generally the biggest fuel voucher gets used first, and I fill up about once a week, but I’d prefer the points.

Hoping I get that offer…

Bought fuel today as I was empty - saved $8.79. Woohoo!

  we spent about $200 on eggs for 2 kids, the classes and teachers

Just read a rather interesting article and that Woolworths will no longer accept Visa/MC Debit cards for payment.

Woolworths dumps Visa, MasterCard debit - Finance - Your Business - News - CRN Australia

It’s not really an issue if they do, as debit cards don’t earn points here yet, and I should think all debit cards would be able to access saving and checking accounts too, I know mine can. Not hard to simply click savings instead.

I wonder what would happen if a foreign visitor used a debit card though.

Loved the tidbit at the bottom:

Customers would be required to know their PIN to access their funds via EFTPOS.

You mean they don’t know them? Jeez!

I did not hear back from EDR so I phoned again today. Spoke to a supervisor and the points in the Bonus Points column are just there to indicate the points were earned during a promotion, but they are not additional points. If you shopped at Dan Murphys during December (the promotional period) you will only receive the points indicated in the Points Earned column.
A tad confusing, but it makes sense as no where in the promotional material did it say you would earn double points.

Looking at my EDR site today, seems they now have a base point, bonus point and total columns.

Banks have for ages been telling people "press the credit button" as often there is no limit on fee-free visa transactions vs transaction fees on excessive eftpos transactions. Does depend on the bank though.

As for overseas cards - I don't believe they will be targeted. Instead it will be limited to AU issued Visa.

Must be an interesting list of banned cards in the Woolworths POS, they also dont allow the use of VISA gift cards, not hard to figure out why!

Maybe Woolies just doesn't like the Falcon :)

Sounds like Monopoly isn't just available in the aisles of Big W - it's everywhere in the group ;)

Christ, Woolies are my go-to supermarket on the way home from work as I never will make it to the Coles closer to home before they closed.

If they do pull this stunt on scheme debit, I suspect it's going to cause such a ruckus and problem for frontline staff they'll can the changes in weeks.

And if it continues - I'll personally make a point of attempting to pay with a scheme debit card, and then once its declined make the staff member explain it - then walk out without completing the transaction leaving a whole ton of stuff behind to re shelve. I'd also encourage others to do the same.

Once upon a time, Visa has a rule that you must honour all cards bearing the Visa symbol. While historically this was meant to mean you had to honour all Visa cards regardless of issuer, with the advent of debit cards (and the prepaid gift cards), it came to mean they all had to be accepted as well.

Enter the RBA, who decided that the honour all cards rule was not in the publics interest, and thus the 'honour all cards' rule was removed from the Visa rules.

A note for Winchester:

I cant see why you will have a problem with Woolworths.
If you have an Australian issued dedit card this will either debit your cheque or savings account.
As far as I am aware most people using such a card have used a pin number for the transaction.
(some may have signed, though this is uncertain for a debit card.)

Some debit cards have also been Visa enabled, in which case you could press the credit button, rather than the savings or cheque button to debit your account.

In future, at Woolworths, if you wish to use a debit card, you will have to press the cheque or savings button. The credit button presumably wont work.

Therefore I dont see why you will have any problem.

It's not about if I'm able to pay, it's about my choice of how I pay as oz_mark picked up on.

If Woolworths are going to pursue this form of payment discrimination (permitted by the moronic RBA, whom I've railed against previously elsewhere) then I intend to take my business elsewhere and spend some of my time punishing them for it.
