Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

If so, they'd also fooled Visa: Visa 'disappointed' with Woolworths

It's more an extension from the current prohibition on Visa and MC gift cards that they (and Coles group) already apply, and probably feel fairly comfortable they've gotten away with. Taking it up to American Express would be a bigger step than this... but you never know given their moves so far, depending on how this goes. It would depend what their current usage is, costs, and whether they believe customers also have substitutes.

And if Woolies can get away with it, it'd be interesting to see if Coles and/or IGA follow suit...

 I've just made a connection with something I read in the business section recently. I've forgotten the name but the owners of the EFTPOS network are apparently on a mission to cut into Visa's eft buisness. I thought that the major supermarkets might have been in the eftpos onwers group.

Maybe that explains this move?

Latest offer I got this evening from EDR is double points at Big W for the next week (5th - 14th). I was initially a little pissed as I shopped there only this afternoon, but then realised it would be counted, so go me!

Also a hundred extra points if I buy stuff in the catalogue.

Appears to be targeted.

also, as I spent over $30 in Big W today I’m hoping to receive my 700 bonus points soon, I’m thinking it must happen as soon as the 3rd store registers, as there’s nothing in the fine print to suggest it’ll be credited at a certain date.

And if Woolies can get away with it, it'd be interesting to see if Coles and/or IGA follow suit...

As if they don’t sit around a dark table somewhere and suggest new ways to rip off their customers, then draw straws to see who has to try their luck first… ;)

Its already given me an idea to tell my staff to automatically push savings button when a customer hands over a Visa debit card....At the end of the day the customer is using the same money and why should the bank take a bigger fee for the push of a simple button. Its not like the customer can earn rewards.

I have been waiting for a week for my points, still waiting.

I've just received a similar offer. I've been out of the country for most of Feb and March so haven't been to Woolies for a while.

"We're writing because we've not seen you in a while, and you're a valued customer. To welcome you back, here's a double Qantas Frequent Flyer points offer for you to use this week when you next shop at Woolworths.

Thanks for shopping with us,
The Woolworths Team

And customers have the *choice* to ignore your business and go elsewhere. People use "Visa Debit" rather than "Eft" because it is fee free (to them), and because banks have constantly pushed it. Also depending on your business and what you sell (not sure what it is, and not implying anything either about your company), they also lose most chargeback rights if using EFT instead of Visa Debit. (An EFT problem is a lot harder to sort out vs a Visa Debit issue). They also can't use new features such as "Paywave", or even enter Visa/Mastercard branded competitions that are tied to Visa/MC transactions.

So yes as a merchant you benefit if customers don't leave and go somewhere else. The customer just gets stuffed over.

Only problem is that my card would be rejected, as I need to press the cheque button!

Just a bit off to the side in this topic - I got my Woolies card a few days after they started the program with QFF and since then I've racked up about 10k points through shopping pretty much where I was shopping anyways (I started buying DVDs and books at BigW if they were there, rather than at Borders and JB Hifi, and it turns out BigW is cheaper anyways!).

Very worthwhile - it does add up.

D¡ck Smith wants to give me 3000 extra points if I buy an Acer, and I can buy it as many times as I like.

Trying to work out if the parts it contains would be worth the low price, but I don’t want Windows anyway…

That is annoying, admin may like to fix handling of swear words in URL’s.

Or even remove that word from the list, it's not at all offensive compared to some other words which are not currently filtered.

I thought it was targeted too, but when I clicked the link and it loaded their website, seems it’s for everyone and anyone.

Not a bad deal.

It did the same for me, but did still have my number written on there and said it was for me only.. ho hum:!:

At least its not running 7starter!

If you need a 'puter with that much grunt, it would be rare there's a specific need for net book size.

I purchased an Acer Netbook for travel; total cost $330 (XP SP3, 160Gb, 1Mb, 1.6Ghz - does all I need when travelling)
