I’ll agree to disagree over the champagne, but vintage Sauternes, Y d’Yquem, premier grand cru Bordeaux, 1963 Graham’s, Hennessy Paradis (they apologised for not having Imperial!), “top shelf” whisky etc, no comparison.

In my experience flying QF F, you can eat whenever you want. If I want to sleep first and eat a main meal later, I just ask them to put it aside for me.The QF pre-arrival 'snack' for HKG is disappointing
I' not immediately drawn to the concept of airlines deciding 'this is a supper flight' so they don't have to provide much food. Let's not leave it to what the passenger wants, we'll arbitrarily make that decision for you. QF isn't the only one - JL and SQ are in the same boat. But others like EK, LH, TG just serve a 'main meal' with full choices at whatever hour.

They will also serve things not on the menu if they have something on board.
And with some crews I'm not courageous enough to ask for anything outside the standard service pattern

Yeah. But they don't officially offer 'dine on demand'. And with some crews I'm not courageous enough to ask for anything outside the standard service pattern
I had olive oil with the bread on my QF F flights this year. In fact, the bread was one of the better aspects of the meal.Indeed some crew offer it up but most don't.
It seems each year the QF F menu drops another notch in quality. This year was the removal of olive oil for the bread, and snack options for between meals.
Admittedly this does sometimes lead to unintended results. On a particularly memorable flight earlier this year, I asked for "just the pasta" because I was falling asleep. After maybe 30 min, I received a bowl of plain noodles! Would you like anything else? Uhm ... the sauce?
