J passengers got a skybed didn't they? QF15 is listed as a 747 so I don't get why you'd ask for your money back (considering there is no guarantee of MKII'S skybeds on them)

As per markis10 for J and I am sure you would be thrilled to have a PE seat booked and told you will spend 14hrs in Y. I'm sure J was filled up by a few lucky op ups but I bet there was as many got op downs.

I would be interested to know if they had blocked PE bookings on this flight once they scheduled the plane for its farewell or kept on selling?

Previously booked in Y+ and travelled on this a/c and got a sky bed. On QF15.

Will depend on loading a but suspect more y+ to J rather than to Y.

I am sure QF is well versed in dealing with this due to the early days of PE.

Yes BNE seems to be getting a good run with getting MKII'S to LAX and SIN, but as there are only 9 747's with them, and 8 or so others without them there is always the chance.

A refund for getting a skybed - please, you are having a laugh aren't you. Y+ down to Y no arguments there, but if they still get you to LAX I would think that the difference would be the only amount due.

Picked it up twice (OJD, unless there were other 2 classes around, on the annual US ski trips in recent years. QF15/16,one out one back. Booked PE and sat in a J seat, with PE menu, no questions asked. No sign of any dissent or complaint from anyone downgraded. I assumed that J seat was just a given if this bird subbed in.

VH-OJJ has just been parked up by the lake at Sydney without Qantas branding and Red Roo so looks like she will be desert bound soon.

Guess they are still removing fittings etc as you'd think it would go as soon as ready.

They don't always do that. Classic example was the last 744 to leave (OJD) flew BNE-LAX in service then headed to the desert.

Qantas owned aircraft usually operate a revenue flight before going to VCV. Whereas leased aircraft are usually retuned to owner in Australia and position to the desert. The tail has been painted over on OJJ, whereas OJD left in usual livery.

Interesting.

Why wouldn't they remove seating, interior parts etc and retain as spares / sell separately?

With the 744's they probably don't need that many spares now, a few have already gone.

As for selling parts separately there are a couple of issues. One is the cost of removing those parts, especially in Australia and secondly if the air frame still has enough life as a passenger a/c you may well get more money from selling complete.

I had never noticed that correlation, however what I find odd though is most a/c that Qantas 'lease' are leased from Qantas shell companies. Though I do beleive OJJ is one which was 'sold' or should I say refinanced by Allco so the shell company that owns OJJ is owned by them.

The aircraft are stripped at their last dest for items that can be either shipped back to the airline, eg; fire extinguishers etc. and then spares are on sold...

LOL, they wont ship the fire extinguishers back, they are prohibited import unless they are installed in a plane.
