If they get rid of all the 734s, how are they going to accommodate all of the political traffic that normally use the full 5 rows of J on those flights?

Not saying it's bad or anything - our pollies could do with a bit of shake up and sitting in Y, though suffice to say we may see the end of any J award availability on CBR routes forever....

They do run a few 767's CBR-MEL as well, no doubt for that reason

Doubtful, Parliament doesn't sit all year so there are plenty of times when J seats will be available.

Pollies are classed as SES level, therefore entitled to J.

Biggest drain on J is the PS, and the biggest of those is Defence!

It's the old "Nalanji Dreaming" VH-EBU - it was used (cannibalised) for spare parts while the other 743's were still operating. I thought it was long gone ...

I think its officially derelict and pending approval for scrapping (Nalanji Dreaming)

It's currently a month short of four years since the last Qantas 743 operated.

Nalanji has been there sitting around Avalon since early 2005.

Some more info on this thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/your-questions/blue-743-with-red-tail-20522.html

And an reasonably extensive FT thread: EBU (Nalanji) may never fly again!

If your a Qantas aircraft with the rego EBU you have not really had much luck, the old Cairns mascot also previously registered with EBU was broken up in Cairns in 2009

It's a bit weird they don't scrap it or they could "donate" it to firefighting services for training if it's not being used any more for parts/training.

I had wondered what happened to the DC-3 from CNS. I guess airport management felt having an aircraft out the front made the place feel too much like an airport, detracting from the tacky tourist trap retail atmosphere they've strived to cultivate with the terminal redevelopment.

However the fact that it was broken up and not adopted by someone else for static display is testament to the timelessness of the DC-3 - there's still so many around that even as a 76 year old design they're not yet curious enough to automatically warrant preservation!

Was that a qantas aircraft? I seem to remember at one stage it was in FNQ Air colours on display (I've made that name up as I can't remember the proper name of the airline). A mate at primary school whose dad worked for FNQ Air actually invited me to their christmas party one year. Highlight of getting a joyflight in one of their operational DC3s.

QF bought her from the RAF in 49, sold to TAA in 60. The other EBU with an interesting history is the 707 that was subject to an extortion bid in flight, almost got taken by a fire at AVV and more recently almost had a wing blow up inflight when a fuel tank was over pressurised:

VH-JET#1 & Her Sisters - VH-EBU

There have been some 744s parked at AVV in recent days too so I suspect a few more on their final flights....
