VH-OJP left Australia yesterday for one last hurrah, operating to LAX then will be doing a final LAX JFK LAX run prior to going to Victorville. Not often you see two aircraft go in the same month, 20 left!

Flew SYD-CNS Wednesday morning on VH-VWT. Airbus A321-231.

Interior looked fresh but appears to be with JQ since last quarter 2009.

What is the blue 743 at AVV used for now? I thought it used to be training and parts but it's been there a long time now.

VH- OJG has now been removed from active service, and will be followed by OJH and OJJ soon.

Noted another all-red tailed 747 sitting on the tarmac at SYD yesterday, couldn't see rego.

Is anything making up for the OJG/OJH/OJJ capacity?
ANy reason OJA/OJC/OJD/OJE are still around (assuming they are even older aircraft) - another check along the way or different flight patterns?

At least one of the 2 class 744s are used on SYD/PER.

The 744s which used to service MEL/HKG (to LHR formerly) and SYD/BKK (to LHR formerly) have been replaced with 333s.

The only 744 routes left are JNB, NRT, SCL, LAX (on 107/108 and 15/16) and DFW (ER series).

And I assume a couple of spares need to be kept in the sleeve whilst QF refit all the old 388s with new config.

All the earlier 747's are similar in terms of age. It may be a maintenance cost that decides which ones are kept and which ones are retired.

So all 734's gone in 12 months?

That's great news for my MEL-CBR-MEL flights where you are pretty much guaranteed a 734, which is J is not good

If they get rid of all the 734s, how are they going to accommodate all of the political traffic that normally use the full 5 rows of J on those flights?

Not saying it's bad or anything - our pollies could do with a bit of shake up and sitting in Y, though suffice to say we may see the end of any J award availability on CBR routes forever....
