  • You can't look out your aircraft window to see the rego. At least, I can't think of too many planes that would allow you to do this easily, unless you have excellent sideways vision somehow. Or the rego is reflected off the windows of another object. ...
:confused::confused:

Of course I meant the gate lounge windows - how on earth can one expect to reliably see the rego by looking out the window of a jet aeroplane?

There is also the rego plat attached to the inside frame of door 1L ... doesn't help if you board 2L but. :p

  • Looking through the gate windows at some gates is the best way but sometimes the aerobridge obstructs a good view of the rego. Other times, you don't realise how much time you actually have to leave yourself to spot the rego and board the plane on time!
  • If the aerobridge has windows (or is made of glass), that's usually the best way to spot the rego; at worst, look at the cover doors for the front wheels.
  • If you try and do any of this at night time, spotting the rego can be especially difficult.

I usually just look at the placard near the front door as I board the aircraft.

Oz spotters have a pretty detailed list as well as the world ACARS log which is searchable..

Yesterday was a big day for old birds being sent into retirement:

767 OGE left for HNL and a new life.
734 TJO left for Apia then onwards to the US for desert storage.
734 ZK-JTQ arrived into BNE, former QF TJQ, now in Alliance colours to work FIFO in WA.

Parked out the back of Avalon there looks like a special livery 744 - wonder if it's for the F1GP?

/OT /

There was also a CX 744 parked at AVV near the JQ terminal - looked like a freighter. Related also to GP perhaps?

VH-OEB has been undergoing conversion to the new seats etc, and yes she is the F1 bird.

Flew CNS-SYD this morning on VH-VZT Boeing 737-838(WL). Newness was obvious when stepping in at front door. Got 13D aisle seat. Qantas service exemplary.

Flew a 747-400 to Narita a week or so back, was the oldest plane I've seen. There was actually a type of duct-tape lining some of the interior, near where the floor met the fuselage. The tape had the words 'integrity seal' written upon it. Very reassuring!

That is actually for security, as there is a lot of removable panels where things could be placed/hidden. not part of holding it together :)

I'm quite sure you have seen older.

You would be surprised how many places duct tape gets used on aircraft. You just don't see most of them.

What date? There are ways to satisfy your curiosity and finding out actually how old the jumbo was.

The oldest aircraft in the fleet seem to have an exclusive on that route:
