Qantas Fleet

Does it have a boarding time on it?

Negative… It is only the small butt section as they used to tear off the main part
and keep that at LAX.

However, the oldest one (from October 2004) has 12:00pm hand written on it.

From memory, I believe the flight normally left at 10:45 or 11:45, however in Summer I think it was
later…

At the time my job was based at SYD (entire airport) and QF8 back then was always referred to as QFLate as it was usually the
last flight in, and obviously staff could not finish until the terminal was clear.

Just found this info:

Flight: QF 8 Airline: Qantas Airways
Depart: Los Angeles International Apt
Terminal: Terminal 4
Departure Time: 13:00, xx_x July 2006
Arrive: Sydney Kingsford Smith Apt
Terminal: 1 (International)
Arrival Time: 20:35, xx_x July 2006
Stops: Non-Stop
Travel Time: 14hrs 35mins
Aircraft: 744 (Boeing 747-400 (Passenger))
Classes offered: First Business Economy

In winter it was a later departure and earlier arrival into SYD

In Summer the flight got in at 22:35

Looking over some old notes I have, the 2004 flight was not the usual time, but I can't make out
what it was meant to be (old itinerary and expense sheet).

Have just been researching a JASA I might need to get me over the line for WP and noticed that QF530 (SYD-BNE) is listed as an A330-200. I guess that must be one of the first back from JQ and operating on the Golden Triangle.

You will never see the A330s operating on the triangle exclusively, is more likely to be coming off a Perth run or heading to brisbane for maintence! Not sure why you think it might be a JQ bird, although the first did come back months ago.

Good to see in any case. :)

Never noticed an A330 on that route before, that's all.

330's have been operating on the golden triangle, add hoc and regularly, since QF first started operating them.

Nice if you can get on one for a change, but IMHO, nothing special.

Qantas have quietly downgraded PER-SIN-PER from A333 to A332 and BNE-SIN-BNE from B747 to A333.

This is most likely due to low demand and to reduce use of B747 - another one OJC is being retired next month.

In the case of QF51/52 when, it's showing 744 through the year at this stage, QF5 has been downgraded for some time.

If you check the next 2 weeks specifically it shows 333. Only just changed and not all schedules appear to have been updated yet.
on the days when QF19 and QF41 both operate, QF5 will be operated by 744 as there isn't enough 333.

Interesting post in another thread (re: announcement Feb 27th) that triggered my interest.

Paraphrasing / adding my own "spin":

Suggestion that QF do a "deal" with EK for EK to inherit slots for QF's remaining (istr ~2015/16 est due date) A380s, and QF to inherit EK 777 slots (or 2nd hand a/c) allowing a more appropriate aircraft for DFW-SYD and potentially other routes such as HKG and/or LAX and allow the 744s to exit the fleet (and fly the 380 to SCL and JNB).

QF could then "take" EK 380 positions further into the future for fleet renewal or growth.

The 777 might also be a good a/c to allow QF to route to LHR via LAX and terminate the 380s at DXB (with onward codeshare to LHR).

Just thinking tangentially - but will never happen!

Think you will find that he meant as a result of JQ birds coming back, not that that flight is specifically operated by an ex-JQ a/c.

Docjames more interesting thesis. Guess real question is whether EK needs more A380s in medium term given age of current fleet and expansion issues they are facing eg Canada, Europe

India being opened up to A380s would be a big factor.

Yeah, it'd be a great deal and potentially a win for both EK and QF.

As far as I'm aware, EK have publicly stated that they need/are expecting more A380s.
