Imagine... a flight almost every 15-20 minutes during peak.

In the case of Sydney though, 15 minute intervals for both MEL and BNE would be very gate intensive to the extent it would take close to all the gates given the slow turn QF has.

Well, that's certain to be an issue. Not a new one by world standards / experience. Definitely would be exacerbated by deviations from schedule.

Might need to deploy some bus gates. Not ideal.

Anyway, I was just making speculation.

SYD-MEL is often on 15min around the peaks at present.
The :15/:45 flights are always less full, although pretty much always 738s

B763 is 30J 224Y seating. B738 is 12J 156Y. That's about 1:7.5 compared to 1:13. So get ready for less J awards, less upgrades and yes of course higher prices in J.

That may be offset by frequency, but generally you'd be right as it is definitely less capacity and it means entering more races / games / lotteries / <etc. synonyms>. As for higher prices in J, I'd say not until there's real cash demand; at least, it may only be higher during the hot times and that is it.

Certainly, the market idealists in this country (generally with questionable credentials with respect to this industry) - and perhaps Choice - would like to see the price of air travel both in Economy and Business in this country to drop even further. Indeed, the latter very much views that, in contrast to free market principles, the increase of pricing purely due to demand and lack of supply, coupled with little competition, is at least morally dishonest and is unfairly taking advantage of people for the sake of (immorally driven) profits. So, I think prices won't really be rising much if at all, at the very least in the short to medium term.

I am sure everybody will be sad to hear ZXE is out of service and off to a new home next Tuesday.

Good news. Last time I flew on that thing, it went tech and delayed me 3 hours!!

Anyone know what the turn around time is for QF domestic for a 767 or 737?

In the ASX announcement today they mention fleet optimisation to reduce losses. What will this mean in practice?

Sounds like business as usual with a bit of nervous posturing.

Maybe cutbacks on a few routes; maybe Jetstarise a few.....

In reality, beats me.

Possibly accelerating the retirement of 767's? They can't be cheap to run these days.

I guess with the domestic saturation and "downturn" in travel, this would be a perfect time to either mothball or retire them.

Would put Qantas in a bind if there was a sudden upsurge in required capacity.......

Flying more hours in the day, I suspect. Might be covered by existing capacity increase plans. Or in conjunction retirements.
