Already sent in my Customer Care complaint about HKG getting less A380.

Daily SCL is a possibility since it is a high yielding route for QF.

As to the comment about Asia getting more frequencies via A330 - I'm not interested in flying A330 without a PE option. They will push me to CX exHKG and BA exSIN.

Why do you think daily SCL is an option, the 747s are still being retired with more to go soon, that's where the excess capacity goes, to the desert.

What happens when an A380 goes tech or in for a major Check?

The 747s will get a work out for the World Cup, after that it's a one way trip to Victorville.

True, but making a profit on the A380, especially when dancing with possible weight issues, is going to present an interesting challenge.
WHy would it be worse than the current 747 situation where at some times of year they can't even get to Brisbane. The A380 removes the Brisbane expense when it can make it. And Qantas can keep on Q Surcharging the route. $200 extra out of everyone is quite a bit per flight if they can keep it full!

9 of the 747s will be around for many years to come. Even simply replacing 747s with A380's you need A380s...........and no more orders are being taken up for many years (if at all)

No one can fill a 747 daily (and make money on it) going to HNL. The A330/767/787 size aircraft meets the demand, even a 777 would be about the maximum size.

They have 6 more on firm order dont they? Just delayed to the late 2010s

That article states that the BNE stop will be dropped once the 380 comes online. Would this be accurate?

Yes - jb747 did an analysis on the "ask the pilot" thread a year or so ago.

Seems it will still be somewhat weight restricted DFW-SYD but can do the distance still with a commercial load.

So it must cost QF less to run a 767, 4 days a week and a JQ A330 daily (perhaps it's 6 days) than run one daily 744 and provide a decent service. Same number of seats all up but a shmozzle of a service currently.

Shame about this. Connecting through SYD from BNE on QF8 is so nice as yuo get to avoid the awful process of transferring terminals in SYD. Plus you can fly PE all the way if going to HKG.

Suspect that the bne connection impacts a lot less people than those who gain from flying to syd

As a BNE based flyer I welcome the benefits of changing over to A380. In terms of losing the BNE-SYD part of QF8 - Meh! I was far more upset when QF19 SYD-BNE was ditched :( That was a first class way to transit!

I think your right, as it will only impact QLD/NT customers in reality, while decreasing time for those travelling elsewhere. There were a lot getting off in BNE going by the Jan figures

There are a lot more choices of domestic connections arriving in SYD compared to BNE so that is probably a bonus. As for I->D transfers, SYD is no better than BNE given both require a bus.

Part of it will be the balance between frequency of service, number of seats and number of aircraft.

Personally I would prefer the 747 but I'm sure they have done their sums.

New Qantas presentation up for a Macquarie conference on the ASX website

Couple of updates on Qantas Domestic.
- All 737-400s gone by June 2014.
- All 767-300s gone by March 2015 (as A332s come from Jetstar)

So Qantas Domestic mainline will only operate A332s and B737-800s by March 2015

For international goes into detail on 747 retirements:
By Jun 2014 - By exit of PER-SIN which shifts A330 to BNE-SIN
By Dec 2014 - By downguage of a SYD-SIN service to A330
By Dec 2014 - By A380 going to DFW

Then a note that suggests
2 by Dec 2015 - No replacement/ or rationale noted.

Total of 5 - which I think is all of the remaining non-refurbed 747s left.

I wonder when they put that slide set together given the 734s have been long gone??

Agree-
I have converted the by Q4 2014 (as June 2014 - last possible date)
Reality is the 737-400s were gone by Feb 2014 (actually in Q3 2014)

- Note the Qs represent Qantas financial quarters. It reports to a 30-June year end

The other dates appear close to the mark,
although the first A380 DFW service is on Sep 29 which is the last couple of days of Q1 2015.
