Is it accurate? I don't recall Qantas dropping 50 aircraft nett over the past 6 years.

Ps wish you had of mentioned the article was written by Nick Xenophobic it would have save me the effort to click on the link.

Its not accurate, they had 188 if you include QFlink in 2008, 198 today on the same inclusions.

Summary from The QF Source:

As part of today’s financial results release, QANTAS indicated the following fleet news for 2014 – 2015.

Two Boeing 737-800s will be sold, reducing the QANTAS Domestic fleet by one and the JetConnect fleet by one.

The leases on two A330-200s will not be renewed.

Two QANTASLink Dash 8-300s will be sold.

Five Jetstar A320s will be sold.

Fifty Boeing 787-9 options will be deferred from 2016 to 2017.

Twenty One A320ceo options to be deferred for four years and converted to A320neo options.

No decision take [sic] on the final eight A380s.

The article contained 3 other interesting observations. Joyce' current pay matching the combined pay of CEOs of profitable CX, SQ, and NZ. Profit contributed during Joyce's term of $240m versus pay of the term of $22m.

Most of all QF gained 2% extra of inbound pax and EK increased their share by 18% since the tie up. I'm not sure those numbers are comparable, as the 2% seems to be total market, whereas the 18% seems to be of the previous EK share. So I'd be interested to see if the numbers are correct.

Makes sense. Everyone else in this country gets paid a truck load more than equivalents in other countries....I suppose he can thank the unions for that one!

But he fought the unions by grounding the fleet! But then again that was the pilots union and not the CEO union.

Although they would have lower operating costs than the 747 they would have leasing costs. I assume the 747s are fully owned by QF (so no leasing or loan payments for these aircraft?). Im guessing the fuel saving from the lower operating costs of the 777 is less than the leasing costs to use aircraft they dont own?

At the risk of sounding offensive the idea of guessing these answers makes your whole argument look ludicrous IMHO.

Anyone else might guess differently and then, rightfully, expect their opinion to be just as accepted.

Hi guys, just a quick question about the 2x A330s that Qantas won't be renewing the leases for, and withdrawing from service. It hasn't been mentioned anywhere if they are A333s or A332s (and if A332s surely they must be A332s already painted in orange and silver being retired, surely not A330s already painted in QF colours?)

Qantas specifically said two A332s with QF Dom.

Think you will find it was mentioned they were 200's. As for which only 3 leased aircraft are in Jetstar colours. Which 2 will be returned will depend upon which aircraft have the lease up, the costs etc rather than what colour they are painted.

Of the remaining 5 A332 aircraft in JQ colours yet to be transferred back to QF, only EBJ and EBK are leased.

Oldest dom QF A332s and the only two with the orphan config re seating.

So an educated guess rather than any inside info.

Though the two reason for the guess are not really valid. The config difference will be fixed by the cabin refurb and now there are old a/c in Qantas colours that are also leased. In fact most if not all the 200's are leased though some through Qantas owned companies

Don't you know anything!!!

He belongs to a different union. It's ok to kill your competitor unions as you get more delegates to the conference that way, unless you use a slush fund that is.
