Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

I accidentally had my green tier completed way too early. I have 3/5 leaves, then when my carbon credit leaf didn't credit after 2 weeks, I messages QANTAS and received two leaves. When I look up my green tier status, it shows the offset flying leaf is lit up, along with only three others. So, not sure exactly what happened.

Does anyone know if the green-tier SC contribute to LTSC or loyalty bonus? If so, I might take SC anyway, even though I'm going to requalify anyway, so I'm only 296 SC away from loyalty bonus. Otherwise I'll just take the points.

For those who have had the 5th leaf (the quiz) automatically credit, were you within 90 days of your membership year rolling over?

I've done 4/5 and just have the quiz outstanding but my membership year doesn't reset until July. If the system automatically gives me the leaf in the next few months, I'll have to take the status credits this membership year when they're not needed. I'd prefer to wait a few months before getting the leaf so I can claim them next membership year.

Note to others to perhaps sit on either the charity or house offset until you’re sure whether to take the SCs this status year or next. They’re both easy to do and should sprout a leaf after ~48hrs.

I'm still over 6 months away from status expiry.

Can you please explain this one further. Can you complete the 5 requirements but wait until the next membership year to claim the SC?

In which case, if you do the 5 again in the new year, you could actually get 100 SC in the same membership year?

Yes, it works the same way the loyalty bonus does. You complete the 5 leafs shortly before your anniversary, but don't claim the SC until after your anniversary. The Green Tier reward selection prompt will stay available for 3 months (many report the deadline shown as remainder of current calendar month + three more)

Yes.

When you get to Green - at least in Year 1, you have 90 days to select either SCs or Pts. So if that period straddles your QF anniversary you have the choice in which membership year to take the SCs. Loyalty bonus can work the same way.

In theory, you could requal again early in the new status year and take 2x 50 SCs but if I’ve understood some recent comments, it sounds like the system is recognising that peeps get Green for their membership year and it’s not resetting until the end?

Can you please report back after your 5th leaf appears and whether you get the option to take points/SCs straight away? I might be wrong, but did I see some earlier comments where peeps haven’t got the option yet.

That might work in your favour if the option appears in the new status year.

Perhaps those that have managed to get their second lot of pts/SCs could report how it actually worked For them?

I'm sitting on 4/5 with 6 weeks to go. Just got to fly with Qantas and offset. Hoping they've fixed their issues by then...

I'll be taking the 50 SC's as I'm only 409 SC's away from LTG. Won't matter in which year I take the SC's as I'm only sitting on 95 SC's in this flying year and will drop back to Silver

How long ago did you book flight and offset? On paid flights with offset paid at time of booking, you should get the leaf after a couple days - independent of actual day of flight (ie you could book to fly in 6 mths time but get the leaf around 48 hrs after booking).

Have no current bookings but wil have flights to MEL and SYD before 28 February, so only need to work out which of the 4 sectors I will use QF. Haven't flown with QF since May (only 3 flights with them in 2022, out of 18 taken) as they need to work out their issues and I needed to re-qual VA Plat (much more important to me).

Nice. If I was that close I’d consider doing a status run or better yet booking a trip I wanted to do anyway on QF to get there.

Ah, my bad I read that you were about to fly (with an offset).

Try some dummy bookings to check the amount the offset is for each. If it’s > $1 paid cash for the carbon offset, it ought to post quickly.

This was my experience a couple of weeks ago. Paid revenue ticket with offset booked and paid for with dollars at the same time. I did the same last year with a points booking and paid the offset at the same time with dollars. Both posted within a day or two. I’m really not understanding why since have struggled so much.

Using points for offset (especially after the booking is made) seems to be the most flaky. Yet works fine for others.

Personally, I’m only going to do it once a year ideally. SYD-MEL return (paid cash) works. I even used my $50 sorry money for my leaf.

i was told today by a QFF phone agent that carbon offsetting a flight also booked with QBR is now eligible for a leaf. Apparently the rules changed on October 7th. Although in my case, the offset i paid was before October so no 5th leaf for me.

Anyone done this since October 7?

I booked SYD-MEL return in late Nov but just a regular fare but added ABN after.
