Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

Qantas Loyalty just responded as follows via email:

„Upon further reviewing the next Green tier reward will be sent after your membership year.“

Doesn’t smell like that this passes the pub test as per above discussion of the T&Cs. I wonder in which court these T&Cs could be tested as I wouldn’t mind to get to Platinum finally.
Just back to this (Green Tier award in second membership year).

The current T&Cs state:

"++ Qantas Frequent Flyers who have achieved Green Tier status are eligible to earn their choice of one (1) of three (3) available rewards. The option to select a reward will appear in My Account 21 days after the member has achieved Green Tier. The choice of 10,000 Qantas Points or 50 Status Credits or three tonnes of Carbon offset must be made within 90 days of achieving Green Tier status. Limit of one reward per individual per Membership Year. Once the application is complete there is no change of mind on the chosen reward. If no reward is chosen within the specified timeframe the reward will be forfeited."

Technically speaking, I achieved Green Tier during my Membership year that ended on 31 January 2022. Green Tier is currently active as it's carried over into the 1 Feb 2023 - 31 January 2023 Membership year.

Hence, legally speaking "Limit of one reward per individual per Membership Year" would mean that I have not yet claimed an award in the 1 Feb 2023 - 31 January 2023 year as I claimed it before, and hence I should get the choice now as I requalified (which is different to achieved)?

Are they any lawyers on here that agree/disagree with my interpretation? I would especially be interested in the disagreement (as this would probably be how Qantas would react - would they potentially argue that the T&Cs talk only about achieved but you did requalify where the T&Cs are silent and we have our internal Op policy...).

Not a lawyer but there is nothing in the t&C to say that achieved is different to re-achieved, just that you can only receive one reward per membership year. If you haven't had the offer of one and want one, I would definitely be following it up on that basis.

Not a lawyer, but if you do take it to a tribunal they also take context, interpretation and intent into consideration. Hard to see how for any average joe that it would be interpreted differently especially since you would have gotten your first year's benefits and expect similar outcomes in the second year.

I honestly feel this is one of those stupid decisions someone at some point made when it was brought up to them that their IT systems can game the system by qualifying for GT late and selecting the reward after the membership year ended. So they made an "executive" decision and its now stuck and never been revisited.

There's a good chance that even the threat of legal action (not actually carrying it out) could see someone with an actual brain and authority take another look at it.

Thanks! I am 48 SCs short for Platinum - and was counting on this friend...

Call them up on 02 9198 4300 and ask for the 50 status credits to go in to this year instead of next. I did it today and it showed within 10mins

The operator also said best of luck in getting platinum

Thanks - I just called and the operator agreed with me that it should be manually credited. He said he has to send it to the back office, and it should be credited in 2 - 5 business days. Apparently, I will receive an email with "the response from the back office". To be continued I guess.

Edit: The same consultant called me back just now, advising that the 50 SCs have been manually credited now. And voilà, here there are. 88 SCs out to Platinum and a trip booked leading to 90 SCs by end of this month 😜. Thanks @L1925.

I finally had my final leaf added manually due to no sustainability quiz. I earned a reward in 2022 but my MY ended in April 23. In their message they say 'We want to advise you that the GT Retain Benefit will be allocated 21 days after your new MY.' I'm confused. Surely my new MY started in May 23? May 24 is the next MY after my new one this year 🤔

See my 2 - 3 last posts above; that gives you the answer.

My guess is that like just about a lot of renewal stuff, they don't really look until they process the renewals. Often when they look to see whether they move you down or not. So I can see why that might be the time you 'achieve' the tier, because that is when they actually grant it.

How did you get the final leaf added for sustainability quiz? I have been emailing the FF address for weeks and getting nowhere?

You've got the Wellbeing app installed? Link (note this has my referral code in it)

Yes but if you have done it last year, doesn't appear in the app again this year?
Yeah, although it took several months for it to show up on mine. Looking through my history, I answered the quiz on 11/3/23 and 24/7/22. (My membership year starts on 1 November, so it took over 4 months for the quiz to come through the second time.)

My quiz reappeared a few months before the end of my QF member year but when I rolled over, I already had the associated leaf gifted as 1 of 5 at the start of a new year….🤷‍♂️. I still have the quiz available in the app also….

SYD+1 had the same.

Well it took a while! Emailed them in May, received a reply in August saying to phone them 😒. After a long wait in the queue and several spells on hold CSR said she would get back to me. She didn't but the final leaf appeared a couple of weeks after that.

The Green Tier clown show continues to roll on.

Emailed about the lack of quiz over a month ago. Called to follow up today. They seem to be aware of the issue, and have suggested a team is looking into the issue. We'll see.

Success! Finally. 5th leaf added to my account and able to select my reward instantly.

For anyone having issues with it, I can recommend giving the Frequent Flyer centre a call. The escalation from the phone agent seemed to have done the trick.

I have re-qualified for Green Tier for a second year and have had a similar experience to other posters in emailing regarding receiving 50 SC in my current MY.

It doesn't make sense that 'one reward per membership year' means being short changed in the second year.

Has anyone let the clock run down on this and chosen to receive the SCs in the next membership year? (like, for status retention purposes if you didn't need the SCs in the year you re-qualified). Was it done automatically or did you have to chase them down for it?

People were quite noisily discussing their intention to game the system to generate their reward for the first year to happen in the second year in order to claim two rewards in the same membership year. This seems to be QF closing the loophole in quite a blunt way.

My learning from that is when you find a loophole, use it discreetly and don't discuss it on a public forum.

Ah ok. I originally qualified a few months before my end of year, and hadn't gone through this thread to see any of that discussion so it never occurred to me.

I'll be retaining my status this year year without Green Tier SCs, the internal debate I'm having is whether it is worth demanding the reward "in advance" or just taking the path of least resistance and receiving the 50 SCs in the next year as a bit of a free kick to start off the new year.

If you want SCs but won't need them this year to retain status then I can't see why you would try to expedite them.
