As someone who flies almost exclusively domestic, there's some interesting points to contemplate in the above discussions.
I just qualified as P1, based totally on domestic economy flights, with a generous helping from DSC's and some Jetstar. Even with DSC's, 3600 SC's represents a considerable number of short flights.
So far, I have not discovered the new status has much to offer for domestic trips. I'm now back in row 4 but it wasn't that long ago that I was there, courtesy of being WP. The SST people are helpful but so are the counter staff in the lounge. My success rate on applying for points upgrades is still less than half what it was a couple of years ago. The FA’s are very nice to me, but then they always have been.
I’ve no complaints but wonder if the P1 program is focused mainly on the international traveller? It seems that many feel that, for international travel, Qantas is not the best option, whereas most consider that they are for domestic travel. Does this mean that Qantas feels secure in the domestic market, whilst they strive to retain the high mileage international traveller? Seeing only the domestic side is making it hard for me to consider the full picture.
