Qantas Platinum One experiences?

As someone who flies almost exclusively domestic, there's some interesting points to contemplate in the above discussions.

I just qualified as P1, based totally on domestic economy flights, with a generous helping from DSC's and some Jetstar. Even with DSC's, 3600 SC's represents a considerable number of short flights.

So far, I have not discovered the new status has much to offer for domestic trips. I'm now back in row 4 but it wasn't that long ago that I was there, courtesy of being WP. The SST people are helpful but so are the counter staff in the lounge. My success rate on applying for points upgrades is still less than half what it was a couple of years ago. The FA’s are very nice to me, but then they always have been.

I’ve no complaints but wonder if the P1 program is focused mainly on the international traveller? It seems that many feel that, for international travel, Qantas is not the best option, whereas most consider that they are for domestic travel. Does this mean that Qantas feels secure in the domestic market, whilst they strive to retain the high mileage international traveller? Seeing only the domestic side is making it hard for me to consider the full picture.

Interesting thoughts. Can't say I have an easy answer. I personally haven't felt any international upgrade love as a P1 for a very long time. Even then it was trans-Tasman only. But to be fair, I am not flying QF international much these days as there are far better options in the premium cabins, and when I do I am usually purchasing or putting in for points upgrades for J.

Given QF seems to insist on filling its F cabins with staff instead of rewards / bonuses to P1s (eg via 2 guaranteed international upgrades as a P1 benefit) I don't see how they are really doing all they can to retain high mileage premium travellers. That would be a big pull for me.

On the domestic front I agree they are pretty secure. I'm a recent VA Platinum for the first time and generally enjoying my VA flights, but QF still wins for me (lounges, network and connections). Remember too on the popular routes there'll be quite a few P1s and CLs travelling, so can be a bit hard to give / get the P1 upgrades I reckon.

Having been a P1 since inception and done majority domestic or international or a mix of both across the years I’ve found the P1 program to deliver what is says it will deliver. Anything else beyond the standard T’s and C’s is a bonus. When we don’t receive the non standard benefits then we get disappointed.

As for whether the P1 program includes enough benefits for the 3000+ members is open for debate. As part of the recent survey I suggested the P1’s who qualified year on year should accrue benefits along the way dependant on years completed. Also Family P1 was high on the list given the family gives up a huge amount in support of the P1 doing the travelling.

Sounds like a great idea. Kinda like health benefits

I suppose it comes back to the core question; how do you make travelling successively more pleasant across multiple tiers? If you are making P1's special, you are making a lot of WP's not so special.
As a WP, I never had cause for complaint. What more can they do? Anything further, such as complimentary upgrades, permanent shadowing, requires the seats to be available. If there is a problem, it's that there are too many tiers and the strata's are unbalanced.

As someone who mostly only flies domestically as tags for international itineraries it always strikes me that flow forwarding would be one of the best advantages for P1s who do mainly domestic travel.

I've yet to take advantage of this benefit but I'm learning to factor it into my bookings. Basically, book the later flight, rather than the earlier one I'd prefer. So far, all that's happened is that I work longer and catch the later flight. :(

Third year of flying same old same old ..... access to the P1 team seems to be the most important part of the relationship to get thru stuff ordinarily not available to ordinary folks. Like refunds. These are done in a kind inquisitive manner. You have to “ ask “...... you don’t ask you don’t get. Axiome still stands. But only few would know this ...... in P1 circles.?

Given the bad news over on the Amex thread... I might need to rethink my pending junking of QF status.

Some interesting stats at the P1 coughtail event in MEL tonight. The award for most status credits went to someone who had 9000+ (don't remember exact no.) SC in the last 12 months. The award for most QF flights was for 161 QF flights in the last 12 months. And there was a guy who had qualified for P1 by doing status runs on weekends!!!

It was a nice event. Good venue, decent enough champagne (Vevue) and great coughtail food.

Where was it? How many people attended?
