Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Just received a box of books from Qantas "as a valued frequent flyer." Whether its due to the P1 status or not I don't know. They are now being used as a door stop as like most folks on here I hardly get a chance to read anything - now wine, that would have been very different :-)

Just like to share a positive story thanks to the latest P1 changes.

The Galleries first lounge at JFK, we are travelling as 2 adults plus the twins who are nearly 7.
she looks at my boarding pass and says, sorry you can only guest one.
I replied with please look at all our boarding passes, as mrs reload is now emerald too.

She was not happy at all.

She suggested we would be way more comfortable in the other lounge.

I told her I'd take her advice on board and went in the first lounge, my kids are sound asleep and making less noise than 99% of the other guests.

I've always disliked BAs dragons a lot, but thanks to QFs new P1 perks I'm able to take my family along with me. Thank you QF, as a dad who hardly travels with his tribe it makes it much more pleasant.

And for the record this match ended;
BA lounge dragon 0 - Reload family 4
the overall score is;
BA lounge dragons 49 - Reload family 8

BA are repeat offenders with their "adolescent cleansing" doorstop chats. We've experience it at every BA lounge we've entered from the CCR down ... their routine has never worked on us.

Have experience this rubbish once with QF - deserted BNE Flounge if you can believe it!

Just came back yesterday from a chilly Europe and was delighted to find that my partner and I had been given a J to F upgrade on QF2. It was a great way to finish a celebratory holiday. The relevance to this thread is that we could not have been treated any better by the crew, particularly Martin and Jorge. They went out of their way to do absolutely everything to make our flight memorable. When I commented on how great the service was I was told that they wanted to do everything they could to spoil a P1. A truly fantastic experience.
It was tough going from that to Y in a 737 this morning though!

I also received a big and heavy box from Qantas today. Before opening I prayed that it will be wine...
It wasn't wine :(

A typical P1 same as me. Too much work to read but can always find time for a wine. :-) QF are as in touch with their most valued customers as ever......,,

I don't mind the books, the gimmick is neat with the destinations, sure some of the books i wont read, but its a nice gesture none the less.

I'm wondering what to send the p1 team for their gift this year :)

So what's your view on the books. To me they're as much use as a handbrake on a canoe - wine would have been ideal :-)

A gift is a gift, unfortunately I don't have the time to read much other than AFF and my uni studies. I guess it'll give me the chance to re-gift though, if I get some.

Have you done this before?

First two years as P1 I got two bottles of wine each year (first from Hunter Valley and second from Margaret River). I was very happy with that.
Why trying to fix something that isn't broken?

My second year as a P1 and got nothing last year. My point is simply that if you are going to spend money on s gift for a loyal and valued customer, at least have the presence of mind to se something appropriate - we must have paid for those books hundreds of times over. I've never seen a business do out of touch with its customers.

Sim ride today at Mascot - took my dad (he's mid 70's) and he was like a kid in toy shop. (bit embarrassing that I flew up on VA) Such a great experience made even better by the attentive style of our host (Ashley Bayer) and the most awesome of senior sim drivers... "Captain Bob" Small. Thanks P1 team for arranging a memorable experience for us and also big thanks to the guys that looked after us today. Seven thumbs up

eta.. my PA called today to say some random box of books arrived. Apparently the reasoning behind it is that it gives you something to help pass the hours in queues when you have no other alternative than to fly on the orange/silver hell

Each to his or her own, as always. :)

I love books, so was pre-disposed to be won over. And I think the boxed set is entertaining, attractively presented, and shows some imagination and style.

Then again, I spent some hours today trying to find new storage space for all the wine we have acquired recently, so certainly would not have preferred another couple of bottles. :)

So if anyone wants to swap their box of books for a couple of bottles of wine, I'm happy to consider the exchange. I would keep my set and re-gift the extras! :)

I am a drinker not a thinker or I think about drinking I think .... Hic

Sorry couldn't help myself

Ha Ha. I got your wine. And it was a Cullen Diana Madeleine - beautiful.

Just dropped from P1 to WP. The last flights as a P1 the team managed to get me a points upgrade 1 hour before the flight and just as I left home for the airport. Excellent.

'twas an ex J* bird but certainly better than row 23 (i peeked through the curtain). The return flight (MEL-PER) was originally the same aircraft but was changed to an international A330-200 with sky beds. Row 1 was worth the points.

What a great way to end the P1 year.

Unfortunately with no international flights ex PER I'll never make P1 again. Still waiting for the SIM (Red Roo, the team said they'd do their best a few weeks ago but no action yet) :)

Still cant bring myself to change my status on AFF. Still have that nice white card until the black one comes.
