Qantas Platinum One experiences?

I got the books today and thought it was a nice gesture. My mother always taught me to be thankful and acknowledge the thoughts of others. Yes books may not be everyones taste but it is something to read. So thank you QF. I like the suggestion on the books of the flights and the reading times, but the book by William McInnes titled a mans got to have a hobby apparently can be read on a PER SIN flight (didn't thank they flew that route). All digs a side and yes I will read that book and blame JQ, thanks Qantas its the thought that counts for me.

I was given the bottle of red too! Says that it can benefit from cellaring up to 30 years so I'll definitely lay it down for a while.

Thank you ever so much Qantas and the Platinum One team. I wish I could fly more and keep the status but I've enjoyed my year at the top so much!

Seems QF may be dumping excess stock of this "limited edition" ($155 on the QF store) box set?

I got it too.

Now QF isn't to know that I have limited eyesight and reading is tough for me. Someone at work quipped that I should have gotten an Ipad loaded with the books as e-books. lol. good call.

I've never gotten wine, but I would have enjoyed that too. Heck a bottle of the La Grande Dame I enjoyed in F to LHR last month would have gone down a treat :)

it's a nice idea, and seems we all got it which makes me feel a little less special as a P1, but either way.

Part of me wants to send the P1 team a "thank you" but the other part is like but this for me is not appropriate... but again QF have no way of knowing that. it seems a lot of money and cost to send this out to seemingly tens, maybe hundreds, maybe more of us.

Still it's nice to be recognised. I'm not sure what to do (if anything) to respond to this gift "from" Leslie.

Re the earlier post about P1 team not proactively monitoring bookings. I believe that is not exactly their function.

Case in point - I was doing a bit of a SCR combined with trying the 717 MEL-CBR-SYD-MEL a year or so back. One of the flights cancelled. I was in the QP @ MEL (J closed as it was xmas time IIRC) and after I'd actually gone to the desk and sorted my arrangements out, I got a call from QF Premium Res in BNE and they noted they tracked the flight change and offered changes/cancel/reroute etc. I explained what I wanted and that I'd talked to the QP desk and all was good from my point of view. The lovely agent in BNE did comment that it was their function that they got notified when a top elite PNR got affected by a change and they did call proactively. They were about 5 minutes late, but I can't fault the effort or service, and even the understanding when I explained that I both wanted the 717 ride and the J credit (I was offered a Dash8 CBR-SYD IIRC) and they got thta I'd paid a J fare, and I wanted appropriate SC credit. Good humour, good service and as I say it was a proactive call by them. I initially asked, with some surprise, if this was someone from the P1 team they said no they were Premium res in BNE.

I always had the impression the CBR based P1 team were more for those extra requests and to handle non-res type issues (like the now infamous LAX table booking issue :) )

I received the books today and am very grateful. 1.2 million words, apparently. As someone who charges by the word, that got me daydreaming.

It also leads me to wonder how many words I would have read while flying over the years...

General opinion around my office was that with those books and the apparent time "allowed" to read each one for each sector, that people must be mega speed readers to complete the task. My own take was that is this a subtle suggestion that the service levels and product make it so difficult to be distracted by either sleep or f&b/ife that you would be reading your book all the way through to LHR? (tongue in cheek)

I don't usually print my BP for Dom flights but I'm glad I did on Friday as it came with a little addition

Nice touch!

WOW. I've never had a message or anything on countless BP's (as P1).
Still I roll over to LTG in the next 2 months. wonder if it will be noted at all. probably not. dime a dozen!

definite nice touch :)

I have had messages numerous times on my BP's, certainly is a treat :)

"All P1's are equal. Some P1's are more equal than others"

no just kidding. Its not a big deal. I think it's cool. I admit I would think it was really neat and feel like hey they are looking out for me or at least the computer is pinging someone appropriately.

but hey if someone is reading. Can I just say *again* how hard it is for me to read the books, but how *easy* it is for me to drink that La Grande Dame F champ? I'm just sayin'......

:D

I've just finished my QF flying year and got P1 again without any real difficulty. However my flight numbers on QF are down by about 2/3 over the year.

Looking back as to why this is, it really came down to hard product and scheduling to Asia. Until the new J comes online I just can't do it. Even flying to HKG and SIN the timings from/to MEL suck. But I guess none of that will change. I've also got LTG now so have started to credit elsewhere where appropriate.

Now for P1, I've found the team as a whole to be amazingly helpful, considerate and a valuable asset to my travels. I'd love to meet them one day to put a face to their names. They have got me out of a pickle a couple of times, so I am very thankful.

I do have a suggestion though. A good friend of mine is one of the top 1% of frequent flyers at Delta and they had a safety training day, where they got to do a cut down version of what FAs do. Ramp slides, water evac etc. they said given you fly so much you could be a real asset in an emergency. (Plus it's a lot of fun) that's in my wish list.

The evac training thing does sound like a great low cost (to QF) thing to offer - like they do with the sim time I agree.
