Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Speaking of big data and Qantas something interesting happened on Monday.

On occasion if I've got a lot of luggage I'll use QF Valet in MEL, which is a seamless and great service.

I had a colleague with me and dropped the car off, they take your keys/details etc then I use the little check in desk.
While checking in the QF Valet person incorrectly informed me that my registration had expired 3 months ago.

I was quite shocked and a bit embarrassed, she told me they run every car in the VicRoads database (I assume they look for outstanding fines etc) needless to say I don't know what rego she put in, or how she interpreted the data but calling me out on it in front of everyone was seriously uncool.

So I checked with VicRoads and sure enough the car is fine and perfectly registered.

I don't have an issue with QF checking the VicRoads Database, but you need to train those on what that means and how to effect the implementation and subsequent actions of that data.

I'm not fussed about it, but talk to Mrs Reload she sees it as quite a slap in the face and has taken offence.

WOW that is hugely embarrassing and completely inappropriate on behalf of the staff member. I trust you brought it to the attention of the SST.

Boarding my flight yesterday in Perth had a great welcome from the FA "Oh Ms AirKat, thank you for your ongoing loyalty and flying with us so frequently. We really do appreciate it, it keeps us all in a job. And we're doing well now, have you seen? We've all lifted!"

And a 23A shadow... *eats words about lack of shadows*

Converse story.

First flight on QF for almost three months on Friday morning to MEL for the F1. A332 and selected 23B back in September 2014. A constant 23A shadow until tonight as we are now within T-80, so no shadow for me (checked it was not actually a seat block on Expert Flyer).

Could be a busy flight I thought and that is why no shadow was provided, but both 23J and 23K are currently empty and blocked and lower priced Red e-deals are still available for the flight ...... so a full flight is not expected.

I can also only assume that QF did not block 23A, but did block 23J and 23K, as I assume 23A would have selected 23K if they could have.

First world problem but I'll have a moan anyway.

I'm on QF64 Joburg to Sydney at the weekend. Originally it was specified to be a refurbed 747. I had my favourite 5J in J reserved and all was good. I had to change a separate domestic leg and somehow this lost my seat selection but I bagged 14J - exit row aisle upstairs - not too bad.

When I checked seating today (been around too long to assume that a seat selection once made is set in stone) I find that the plane has been changed to one of the older V1 three class 747's and my exit row aisle has been changed to a non-exit window. I absolutely loathe not having access to the aisle and have this set up in my preferences. I am very unhappy that the P1 supposed 'monitoring' of bookings allowed this. Am I unreasonable to hope that P1's monitoring of upcoming flights wouldn't have picked up a major plane change and at least made contact? I subsequently called P1, but apart from putting a request into the system there's nothing that can be done.

I'm a big fan of the P1 team who have been fabulous over the years I've been a member but really feel a bit let down at the moment as this is not the first time this has happened.

They only monitor your flights when advised of delays, unimportant (:)) things like plane and seat changes are not monitored.

So have you called/contacted the SST and asked for assistance with your seat allocation, or have you been able to change it (again) yourself?

Yes, I tried that and other than puting in a request there's nothing that can be done. The flight is absolutely full so I can't effect any change as there's nothing available.
This is the second time Ive had plane change from the one I booked on an international route in 3 weeks and ended up with an inferior product. Inconsistency is a real pain

I know it is a first world problem where you are facing the chance of finding there are more than 6 rows on our plane.
Saved from row 20 something plus by the upgrade for points fairy so we are very pleased. It was a last minute decision to attend a work function this weekend.

Fantastic fun.

Not sure if you are going Sydney or Melbourne. If Sydney I got delayed by waiting at the wrong building. The reception area is not the 2 storey building sign posted as flight training but the next single storey office building along.

The auto land at Heathrow in zero visibility whilst interesting is basically sit back and watch

Think about which airports you'd like to fly into out of in advance

Jealous I can't do it again

Going to do the QF flight simulator this week.
Any tips from members who done it already?

I was told they didn't have Kai Tak loaded... but definitely ask.

Others on my check list were:
- Max turbulence settings
- Max weather settings ice/wind sheer
- Take sim outside normal limits / bank/climb angles
- Landing into SAB
- Intentional crash to see how sim handles it
- Low fuel + load and max power climb takeoff

Take a friend along who knows how to fly an airplane.

Definitely think beforehand what airports/areas you'd like to fly around. Also think what emergency-type situations you'd like to recover from or other special things (e.g. fly under Golden Gate bridge).

They don't have the old HKG airport in the system unfortunately and a crash results in a very sudden stop of the simulator (I may have come up just short of the runway once :-o).

Why not go for broke and really confound the system: ask for an on-time international departure from Perth.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
A couple of questions:
1. I will drive to airport with rental, which terminal is closer to the training centre, Dom or Int?
2. Any recommendations on a specific airport which is more interesting to land in?
Cheers
Edit: forgot to mention I'll do it in SYD.

If you are flying up to Sydney go to the lounge and ask the Desk Angles about the staff bus to get around to the jet base. They will take you there and back if you are returning home that evening.

Im sure you will enjoy. I went to Wellington and did a heavy landing with late high crosswind in the wet. Short wet runway and being heavy made it very interesting. They will not allow you to crash nor will they allow you to try and fly under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Flew into JFK and LHR and finally back in to Sydney with limited visibility and an engine failure at 600 feet.

have a great time we certainly did and wish we could do it again :) :)
