Qantas Restaurants that HAVE or HAVE NOT awarded points

Re: Qantas Restaurants NOT awarding points

For a special occaission I hosted a group dinner at Wildfire Restaurant in Sydney. Great service, fantastic food and when I went to pay the bill the lady on the register happily processed my QFF card and gave me a receipt for the points earned. When the points hadn't appeared in my account after 8 weeks, I took it up with QFF and sent them a copy of the points receipt, to be told I need to take it up with the restaurant!

After explaining that in my opinion the restaurant had done everything one could reasonably expect, QF agreed to escalate the matter to get it resolved. I'll let you know if/when the points turn up.

Further to this, the relevant points finally made it into my account towards the end of November (the transaction took place in July)

Unbelievable . Not a great way to run a business.

Upthread, 6% is indicated ...

Whoah, so for swiping your QFF card and paying via a QF Amex, the restaurant is losing almost 10% of the sticker price of the meal to Qantas, all so that the card holder can earn 4 QFF points per dollar? No wonder QFF is such a money spinner for QF, and no wonder restaurants are dropping like flies from the program.

Agreed; and yet VA's scheme is embraced by any number of traders for a broad range of goods and services, probably because they don't seek to so extract $ from their participants.

Has anyone had any experience with South Bank Surf Club (Brisbane)? Considering going there in a few weeks. They're listed in the 'yes' column in the first post (but with no date), and are still listed on the QF site.

Also to note, China Doll in Sydney is no longer a partner.

Food is fine, service is fair, no idea of qff points - no qf signage seen last time I was there (October).

I have real fears for this part of QF's FF program. I justndiscovered that my favourite restaurant in Brisbane, Bar Barossa, has pulled out of the program. When I checked the QF website for participating restaurants in Brisbane, I found there is now 1! One!

QF needs to look at the program and why restaurants are dropping like flies. If QF is charging 6pc, as has recently been suggested here, that's a good starting point for inquiry. I would warrant that restaurants are not getting 6pc extra patronage through the doors as a result of being in the very passively marketed restaurant part of the program.

If the restaurant takes a 10% margin, and 6% goes to Qantas, then they'll need to more than double their patronage for those who are claiming points just to break even in terms of profits made. I would guess that the chance of that happening is very remote.

Do you mean CBD, as the greater Brisbane area does have a few choices, especially on the north side. Ironically the only restaurant I have used is the Hockey Club in Toowoomba, where restaurant is a loose term.

I put "Brisbane" into the restaurant drop down field and 1 returned.

I have said for months and if not years the list is getting smaller and smaller

The program is too expensive for restaurants to particpate

Same experience.. Staff need some decent training. Food fine

Cheers - I've emailed them to ask if they are still a partner and they haven't replied yet... we shall see! :)

Indeed! Personally, if I owned a restaurant, I would give partnership a try (as I know that a great number on here would visit and return if the food and service was good), though I think it's also an issue that a number of business owners are 'stupid' (eg. the ones who complain about Amex merchant fees and drop acceptance entirely instead of avoiding the cost by surcharging). As the QFF fee is ~3x the average Amex merchant fee, the 'stupidity' multiplies, and most will just spit the dummy and cancel the QFF partnership. The better option (IMO) would be to not display any QFF signs or messages inside the restaurant itself, and not use the QFF bill folders. This would allow those with an interest in the restaurant program to still earn points (as they can look up the restaurant on the QF site), but would reduce costs by avoiding points transactions for customers that were going to visit the business anyway... (not ideal but better than cancelling)

That said, some restaurant owners are 'smart', in that they realise they have no issues filling their tables - and although they may lose customers by cancelling their QFF partnership, the business is popular enough that they will simply be replaced with a new customer (dell'Ugo in Brisbane comes to mind there). Others (eg Awesom Andy above), can crunch the numbers and see that some restaurants may find it difficult to make the partnership worthwhile. I suppose it depends on which way you look at it - it can be hard to find a good middle-ground when the option for restaurants is only in or out (eg. unlike the fixed points hotel partners that can choose to offer either 600 or 1000 points per stay - depending on the level/class of the hotel). All things considered, I can honestly see why restaurants leave the program (or don't get involved in the first place).

Perhaps if QF were to divide the restaurant program into three pricing divisions - fine dining restaurants at 3/$1 (6% cost +epiQure bonus), standard restaurants at 2/$1 (4% cost +epiQure bonus), and cheaper cafes and non-fast food takeaways at 1/$1 (2% cost and perhaps no epiQure bonus)... while still allowing restaurants to choose to award a higher number of points if desired. Surely that would help to increase uptake and reduce the 'too expensive' complaints? Anyway, just something that I'd consider if I were running QFF ;)

Of course, their contract with QF might mean they are obliged (read: contracted) to display signage.....

Quite a good idea but may be difficult in practice for QF (they are flat out getting any points form this program to credit).

When you compare the success of everyday rewards vs. the mess that is this restaurant scheme, you wonder why QF bothered.....

Ate at Cruise Restaurant, Circular Quay, NSW, last night. Food and Service were excellent, but alas they "didn't have a machine" for the FF points. I have my receipt still, not sure if I could be coughd following it up for a measly 600 points.

No, you have to! Every time a consumer lets these restaurants get away with their ploy of 'the machine is not working', the restaurantorial equivalent of 'the dog ate my homework', they win. We must persist!
