Qantas slashing jobs and possibly selling FF program?

Maybe i have watched too many "Undercover Boss" episodes BUT.....
As i noted in another forum maybe its time for AJ and others to get out into other carriers offerings so they can see for themselves what the competition is offering? On these forums you read about the better options in every flying class (PE debatable) on other airlines so maybe its time they spent a week sampling other airlines offerings to see why QF is no longer seen as the carrier of choice for some.

They should sample each airlines
- Website
- Check in process / seat selection
- Lounge offerings
- In flight product
- Arrival procedures.

I am sure QF has people already doing this but i really feel that AJ and others need to see for themselves where the competition is at. Maybe it will be an eye opener, maybe not.

i guess part of the issue here is that AJ and other board members/senior management probably get a better than average service when they fly QF.... everything would be perfect when the boss is in board.

they won't experience the same problems some of the rest of us have had... particularly the inconsistent crew. as far as they're concerned they probably don't need to fly another airline (and admittedly, when qantas does it well they do it as good as the best).

i would imagine it's the same when Neil perry flies... the service and presentation would be top notch (how incognito could he go? his name has to be on the passenger list). any outbound food kitchen would have the heads-up that he was flying and the meals would be perfect. he doesn't see the muck we sometimes see.

Am pretty sure AJ would fly other carriers from time to time, particularly where QF doesn't get him where he needs to go.

I remember once hearing that Brett Godfrey used to always sit in the back row of his jets (obviously at a time when V Blue didn't have premium/business seats) - partially because you can get off easily out the back, but moreso so he could observe the FAs doing their work throughout the cabin.

He certainly does, went DXB direct to HKG after the inaugural services.

...
I'm more surprised that the outlook became so bleak since the start of the financial year with no one noticing until this week. Must have been able to see it coming a few months ago surely?
I suspect VA's $350m raising caught QF "on the hop" (so to speak).

Until then, QF probably considered themselves to be 'winning' the domestic battle.

Well i stand corrected.

Better recall the email i sent RedRoo with my CV for position of "First Class Sampler on airlines outbound and inbound to Oz". Bugger.

unfortunately there are some who already do that regularly, and pay the airline rather than the other way around. Quite often feedback goes unanswered. (speaking of which the last post by the company representative seems to be over a week ago.)

on balance I think the board is very well credentialed when it comes to both Aviation and Enterprise expertise, James Strongs shoes would have been hard to fill and I do feel his expertise is sorely missed.

Sorry cannot agree and you are seeing the proof of the pudding right now.

Guess who bought some QAN shares today!

Wish I'd known, you could have had mine brokerage free.....

Only problem, you probably couldn't afford them.......(Dec 07, $5.50) LOL
I did tell the boss at the time it was just for a bit of patriotic fun !!, now she just shakes her head.

So I hope AJ & his entourage flew to DXB on EK, just to sample the disparity of hard & soft product service levels between EK & QF in all cabins.

FWIW a friend of mine just flew MEL-SIN on QF Y and then home SIN-MEL on EK Y. Their verdict: Qantas was the winner by far. She preferred the food, the seat, the inflight service. So there you go...... just a sample of one person but to be honest I'd pick QF in Y over EK Y myself too (moreso if the EK flight is on a b777)

You can't really compare a day flight with an overnight flight though. I would expect the day flight to be better than a 6 hr red eye on many carriers. I have flown both overnight QF flight and EK flights from SIN to MEL in recent times, and I would take EK flight every time (and SQ in preference to both). And of course, if in Y, the SQ day flights in preference to all of the overnight flights on the route. In theory the Y seating on QF is better - but in the A330 only marginally wider really, the difference was barely noticeable (compared to SQ which is noticeably wider). And the IFE? EK's had much bigger selection that what is available on QF's A330. Having said all that - before it was rerouted via DXB, QF10 on the A380 was a much better option than EK.

yes the IFE was not mentioned by me because it is obviously superior on EK. She has been raving about the good service she got (she has no status) on Qantas, the crew treated them very well. Anyway it was nice to hear somebody having a good experience...

Although I don't feel it's likely that Qantas will go completely bust and we'd all lose our points à la Ansett, I wonder what would happen to members' OneWorld status in that situation?

Some other airlines MIGHT offer you a match but there would be no guarantees

You lose it same as what happened when Ansett went. air NZ wouldnt even let me in the lounge in Auckland 3 days after the collapse. ( Had No Choice had flights prebooked and needed to get home) In fact one may say it was the worst airline service that I had ever experienced in my life !!!! Hence why this little black duck will Never Fly NZ again :D

If QF were to cease operations then your FF status would also cease as per the temrs and conditions of the FF program.

Another airline may offer to status match however (for example CX).

I was commuting when AN went bust and still remember the queue of folks at the QP filling in applications to join the following morning after the grounding of AN, probably helped by an OpUP to J travelling on a $35 fare!

A bit OT but I used to love the way NZ would just cancel flights without notice...turn up at airport "sorry your flight is cancelled, we are now flying you tomorrow, through Sydney"...what! A different airline now.

I severely doubt this. Sorry. But hey, what's all this doomsday talk about QF. It will certainly be around for at least another year or two.
