Am very happy to dedicate my flying to QF/One World, but only when they make WP1 something to strive for.
If that ever happens, I guarantee that I will become a WP1 and I would say, you will never.
nlagalle, I am interested to know, did you earn DJ WP or did you just simply take up their complementary offer ????

You a right, it is "No rocket science" because it is ROCKET SURGERY.

Your posts contradict yourself. You stated that you want double SC's so you can get WP then fly DJ. So why woud they give you doube sc when you've said you'll fly elsewhere???

No rocket science...

Wizbang, you have no idea of the flying I currently do with QF. I was only a couple of hundred SC short of the WP1 launch. however I am happy presently with Partner Gold and Virgin Platinum. Like many others i took up the offer, but will easily re-qualify for platinum next year.

p.s. you can keep using "Rocket Surgery" it makes me laugh...

I love your mixed (metaphor) (not sure if this is the right word). If we think about rocket surgery, we quickly realise that the person doing such surgery will be a rocket scientist. Hence I would suggest rocket surgery is the same as rocket science.

Personally, I'm old school and I stick to either brain surgery or rocket science. And never the twain shall meet.

I haven't followed this thread for awhile but I did pick up something that suggested WPs might be lucky with complimentary upgrades between the major capitals over the next couple of weeks.

I've checked in for alight from SYD to PER soon that is showing upwards circa 5s in the three revenue J buckets but no comp up for me. Do I need to ask or has my selective thread reading got my hopes up unnecessarily?

Good news for plebs, all the op-ups seem to have meant that seat selection has opened up significantly for my flight to Perth on Sunday. Plenty of exit row seats to go round.

Might be worth rechecking any seat selections you may have made.

AirNZ do have a form of point banking, but only for Gold Elite renewal.

To re-qualify, one needs 1350 Status points. The first 649 earned over this figure (i.e. up to 1999) can be carried for to you next years requalification. However, earn 2000 SP's or more and an additional year of Gold Elite is "banked" until such a time as they do not reach the 1350. These banked years are coughulative so if in the subsequent year 2000 SP's is again reached another 'banked' year is earned. i.e. A Gold Elite effectively re-qualifies for 2 years with 2000 SP's.

Why am I not surprised that progressive, hip and forward thinking NZ has such a great system in place, yet tired stodgy old QF doesnt. And they wonder why they are in financial and industrial trouble!!

Stupid Stupid Qantas!!

Air NZ are isolated in this form of status management. I don't know what is forward thinking about a program that rewards no forward thinking or planning. I am thinking about flights in 2014 and how they impact status and loyalty... Personally I don't like the NZ system - fly the miles this status year and get status or dont! I actually loved the old Hilton rolling 12 month status and was really impressed with DJ when they introduced a rolling based status program - sadly they failed to deliver a rolling status program which I think is a bit disappointing.

I was referring to the airline in general. I really dont understand how a small "boutique" airline such as NZ is walking all over QF by almost every measure.
I'm at a loss as to how can NZ support flights to SFO and QF cant!

Just wanted to check... do we know for certain if the free op-ups are only for flights Mon-Fri?

Maybe we'll find out this weekend... Anyone done OLCI for tomorrow?

wilco,

Don't get me wrong here as I'm not commenting as a Qantas defender.

I'm quite sure Qantas CAN support flights to San Francisco IF they want to so so. Ignore any marketing spin they simply have made a business decision to deploy the a/c elsewhere to where they consider to be MORE profitable.

I personally don't like the choice but business is business.

When I checked in for my flight yesterday I was in 4F instead of 25 something. First I realised was when seat selection kept failing when I tried to move from row 25 to 23. I then decided to check in and found myself selected in 4F.

The interesting bit was that trying to change seats using OLCI only offered the Y cabin. The MyFlights app showed my seat as 23J, the failed seat selection choice. Going back into seat selection from manage my booking gave me more Y seat choices than available when using OLCI. It seems strange to me because everything had me in Y, except for the BP having 4F. Interested in other experiences.

If you find it tedious please feel free not to read it. That way we can continue to discuss the topic of how qantas is thanking its customers.

maninblack,

The preference as always is to leave the thread open where/when possible as long as people continue to post on it.

Eventually threads die off and self close. In the mean time simply do not read the thread if you don't like it.

I sometimes wish I had that as an option :!:

The best thing you could have offered was a Status Credit Bonus to the top tier, namely Platinum and may be to a less extent, something for the Gold or at least offer Double Points or Double Status Credits.
If you are really serious about trying to protect the so called core traveller, then that would be a no brainer.

Every flyer is absolutely different, promotions come and go, and sometimes you are lucky enough to be on the good end of of the stick.

I'm a WP, my girlfriend is also a WP. This 91st birthday promo of doubling my frequent flyer points works perfectly for me*. I'm happy to receive 2x points (on base BIS miles, elite status and cabin bonus) as my membership year doesn't reset until 30 Jun 12 and I can still work my way towards requal. WP if I choose to. My girlfriend on the other hand, although the points is nice (19,540 points just on a SYD-SIN J last week), her requal. date is 28 Feb 12 and she would have loved getting a double SC's as she's almost 400 off :( and needs to get her skates on.

* just as a reference, this is the first promotion that I have benefited in the last 24 months.

I had thought that 'gifts' were for those actually disrupted; are there any who weren't (like me) who did receive a 'gift'?

I do know the straitman was disrupted - his post indicates no gift offered.

We have 2 WPs in the family.

I got the eqiQure membership and wine as I 'may have been effected.' I wasn't effected, however, I did have flights the week immediately preceding and post the weekend of the disruption, so I think +/- 5 days may been taken into account.

Immediately following the email I registered, and the website recognised that I qualified for free membership. Received a confirmation of my free bottle of Shiraz, but yet to receive the shipping notification. Personally, I'd prefer a White, but it's free....

Afterwards, I tried registering the other family member, but epiQure wanted a credit card or points for the membership, so it is clearly targeted.

BTW, I still have no idea of the point of epiQure. I eat in fine dining restaurants all the time, but isn't it just a glorified wine club, with private events that you still have to pay for?

Their track record isn't that good - remember Ansett & the re-nationalisation in Oct 2001.

Great airline but one can't ignore the reality card;)
