Qantas thanks its most loyal customers

But that is the same as paying cash for a flight and not being able to change it due to availability.

And that thread is out of context, he is wanting to change flights around Xmas which is always hard to impossible at the best of times!

Qantas can point to plenty I ways to burn points so I doubt it would end up in court

Im aware of that, and agree that he has unreasonable expectations. But it doesn't deny that people are developing a certain level of entitlement when it comes to their points and how they want to use them.

Qantas can point all they like. They cannot, and will not (with me at least) dictate how/when I use my hard earned points and the point im trying to make is that there will come a time when people who have tried to use their points on several occasions and haven't been able to will get fed up.

Itd be interesting to see Qantas forced to disclose how many seats they actually release, as im not convinced that availability is consistent with the fair trading act, which requires you to provide reasonable quantities, and not the 1 or 2 that seem to be made available.

To be honest, the whole FF scheme is exactly that. a SCHEME. It is not designed to benefit the end user, but rather the company that operates it.

I've had zero problems in securing whY redemption to just about any destination on any flight.....trying to get J or F is a tougher task but still possible. Attempts to get an upgrade using points have also been more successful than not.

IMO, QF would have no problem proving that points are easily able to purchase flights or other items.

Im glad you have better luck.....

I prefer to use my points for J/F simply based on the fact that J is 2xY points and F is 3xY points, unlike commercial fares where J is at a minimum 4xY and F is 6xY.

I have only ever scored 1 upgrade Y to J on a MEL-LHR flight. The upgrade was declined (when I checked in online) only to arrive at the airport and be told i'd been upgraded. Naturally I thought it was an opup, but no, they deducted the points which I successfully claimed back.

My point remains, that I want to, and think I have the right to, use my points for what I want, and not what Qantas want me to, ie: the flights they cant sell to anyone else.......

They're a business. Seems like you're stating the bleeding obvious to me.

Name another business that gets away with treating its customers with such contempt??

The deal is that you fly, accumulate points and redeem them. Im not satisfied that the redemption part is really working, but to each their own I suppose.

If you want to see how many seats for a flight ate available, get a subscription to expert flyer and you can easily see it. In fact you can use your points on an ASA to get a seat if you really need it.

How are they restricting you in using points?

Even when you are paying cash if the seats are sold, they're sold.....no amount of cash is going to change that.

The obvious difference is that there are 400 seats for sale on a longhaul aircraft, of which maybe 2 are award seats. Big difference. HUGE.

And as for *ASA's, they are a great idea, when they work, but IMO, there is no correlation between the commercial seats available Vs the points required to redeem them. If O or N seats are available for sale that does not mean that *ASA's are at the lowest points value, and that IMO is deceptive. The points required should increase in a similar fashion to the fare buckets left for sale.

Before spouting that 2 seats are available, why don't you look up what is available first? As I said check on EF.

As for their pricing, I don't think they are deceptive, they just reflect availability.

Actually I will book ASA's where ever I can now as I earn points and sc's in them. If you look around there is plenty of value to be had.

In fact one hkg trip I was planning it was cheaper on points to book an ASA than a classic award!

Naturally I thought it was an opup, but no, they deducted the points which I successfully claimed back.

I'm genuinely curious how you managed to get the points returned as that scenario seems to be a very common occurrence.

I see it a little different.

Unless you join their FF program you do not earn points......the ticket price is the same if you are a member or not. Therefore, I don't see this as a given right or their obligation to provide me points when purchasing a ticket. I see it as a freebee that very few other companies provide me when I purchase their goods or services.

Woolies or Coles will give you a voucher for a discount on fuel that:- a) has a very short valid date b) has a limit of discount c) can't be used as joint branded outlets.......confusing, cheap, dated & useless as they charge you more at their other outlets to pay for the false discount.

Could you be any ruder? Seriously, who rattled your chain??

I dont have access to EF so I cant check, but if it wasnt obvious to you, the comment regarding 2 seats was a generalisation.

Like I explained, I disagree the ASA pricing reflects commercial availability. I also prefer ASA's, but not in Y and that makes the situation very different to the one you describe. Even classic awards in J/F are few and far between, let alone "value" ASA's.

You made a statement saying QF don't release enough seats. I am merely asking you to back it up! How can you say they don't when you don't have the tools to check.

So why don't you think they don't? I have booked both Y and J ASA's and for the most part have gained them for only a few thousand points more than a classic. And as for J/F they aren't exactly huge cabins so there isn't going to be a lot of availability is there?

This is factually wrong and a disgraceful comment. There is generally 1 F seat free for awards and some (more than 2) J seats. There are many more whY seats.

Also doing a random check on availability on a random route NEXT week I can see availability for 1 pax in J, Pe and whY. That is NEXT week.

For 2 pax I see similar availability using the QF site.

For adults and one child there is availability - but mostly in J.

What more do you want?

Sorry but I am frankly fed up with a heap of stuff from QF but misrepresentations by others on the forum that don't even try to prove their claims is actually more annoying.

Add to that they use your newest voucher first:evil:

My back up is the searches I do online for the flights I'm interested in. Whilst EF would no doubt be handy, it's not the be all and end all. The QF website ought to be equally effective if not as efficient.

As for cabin size, your right, they aren't huge, but I still think more seats could be made available. I have found instances where no JASA's were available despite discount J being for sale.

Clearly you haven't tried redeeming on SQ or VS for example... You won't be complaining about QF after experiencing them ;)

The QF site won't tell you how many seats are available.

JASA's are always available as they use the normal inventory buckets, not U. so if there is a J seat for sale, there will be a JASA.

Disgraceful you say? No more than your attitude......
im not interested in random searches, nor domestic, nor Y. I also don't plan my international travel 1 week in advance, assuming your random search was international. Even domestically, this availability is no doubt based on the fact that QF does not expect to sell all the remaining seats and to be frank, I find it offensive that you expect me to be grateful to be thrown the worthless scraps that QF can't or doesn't expect to sell. They haven't released those seats to do FF's a favor!

Anf finally, who makes you an authority on what constitutes a misrepresentation? I find those that think their opinion is somehow more valid equally annoying.
